3.5 ⭐️. The other couple was an entertaining and fast-paced mystery book. I loved the setting and thought the author did a fantastic job describing the lighthouse, the weather, and the surroundings. The characters piqued my curiosity, and with each chapter, I wanted to learn more about them. I particularly liked Alice as the main character; her intelligence is essential in mystery novels. The short chapters kept the pace brisk, and once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. The only downside for me was that part of the plot felt somewhat predictable. I found myself hoping for a different direction, but it unfolded as I expected.
This was my first book by Triona Walsh, and I would love to read more of her work.
This psychological thriller keeps the twists and turns coming, revolving around two couples who find themselves booked at the same lighthouse for a getaway. As the story unfolds, they realize their meeting is far from coincidental.
The first half of the book progressed slowly, but once past the midpoint, the pace picked up significantly. I appreciated how each character harbored secrets, adding layers to the narrative, yet the story remained easy to follow. There were moments when the book seemed like it could have concluded, yet it continued, adding more to the intrigue. Overall, I really enjoyed this engaging and suspenseful read.
The Other Couple takes place in a lighthouse B&B in the countryside. Finn and Alice have rented it for a romantic. The first night is interrupted when another couple shows up at the doorstep. This new couple will not budge on finding somewhere else to stay until they can get the booking figured out in the morning. Alice is disappointed and eager to get this figured out. Finn on the other hand seems stand offish when it comes to Vivenne and Mac. But what Alice doesn't know is Finn has a history with this couple. And Finn doesn't know that Alice is hiding something of her own too.
There were a couple of things that I didn't guess right. But that made the book enjoyable to me. I think that it was a good story. I liked the way it developed. The progression was good. Not too slow. The characters also had good development.
I hadn’t read anything from this author before so wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it well wow I am so glad I gave it a chance cause I loved it. It was such a nail biting thriller I was hooked and could not put it down. With such a rollercoaster of emotions and so many twists and turns it was a fantastic book. I like how it was told from different perspectives it definitely helped build up the suspense. I like the creepy setting it definitely set it up the suspense perfectly. I can’t wait to read more from this author. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this great book.
3.5💫
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC for this book!
I never read anything before by the author.
At the beginning, I thought this book was based on a movie I already saw. But I was completely wrong and I had no idea where the story was going.
I was totally won over; we learn to know the characters on the first half of the book but the second half had me questioning everything and guessing where it was going and I couldn’t put it down.
I finished this is in a weekend and I would totally recommand this to a friend !
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC for this book.
I’ve never read a book by this author but will absolutely pick up another one! I adored this one from start to finish & only predicted one twist. The rest kept me guessing and I thoroughly enjoyed my time. As soon as I hit 30% I couldn’t put the book down!
There is a balance of different characters that work well with each other & I like the epilogue at the end as a little bonus.
Definitely would recommend & will be reading some more of this authors work soon
Thank you to Netgalley, Tríona Walsh, and Bookouture for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
When Finn and Alice escape the city for a romantic getaway the last thing they expect is for another couple to show up, claiming to have booked the converted lighthouse for themselves that weekend. As neither couple is willing to leave, and the booking helpline won’t be open until the next morning, all four of them stay overnight and the plot develops from there.
The Other Couple by Tríona Walsh is absolutely chock full of twists and turns from beginning to end - you won’t have to wait for that 75% mark for everything to start kicking off!
This story weaves layers upon layers of secrets and suspense, making you question if anyone is who they seem at first glance, and constantly reconsidering who to trust. Between burner phones, mysterious informants, and disappearing possessions, there’s no shortage of intrigue and mystery.
This is a well written and very readable novel! The short chapters kept me engaged, each mini cliffhanger having me read “just one more chapter”. The story was a little predictable in some parts but this was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I do recommend it. I’ll definitely be reading more of Walsh’s work!
This is my first book by the author. I didn't know where this story was going to take me.
For me this book was not predictable at all so it kept me guessing throughout the book. There were times i thought i had the book sussed then BAM another twist and threw me off once again..
The second half of this book had me totally gripped and i couldn't put it down.
I started reading this book on Friday night i was finished by Saturday night.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.
The Other Couple is very much about couples, the main one, Alice and Finn, who take their May December romance to a thematic foggy lighthoused town and that of the mystery couple who interrupts their getaway, Mac and Vivienne.
Alice and Finn are our initial focus because their romance is one taking place illicitly as Finn is the CEO of the company Alice works for, in addition to being older than her. This couple individually has a ton of secrets, and figuring out Alice’s was especially the driver of the plot for me as Finn was just ick. Meanwhile Mac and Vivienne also have secrets, and naturally they’re connected to this couple. There were quite a few plot developments I didn’t see coming and a big twist upon twist at the end that is unexpected. My struggle here is that I love twists but the suspension of disbelief throughout the book just went too far for me not to see this as the type of book where a monkey could show up and start hula dancing randomly and it would check out. Entertaining for sure, but depending on your taste in thrillers, this will either be a wild ride or just a bit too much.
At a lighthouse B&B, Alice and Finn are about to begin their first getaway as a couple. Finn is the CEO of TobinTech; a man with a lot of money and influence. Alice is an analyst in his company, and quite a bit younger than him. The optics of their relationship wouldn’t look good in the era of men in power being with younger employees, so in Dublin, they have to keep their relationship secret. Finally, now they can be alone in a tiny town where nobody will know who they are.
Relaxing in front of the fire on their first evening of the trip, they hear banging at the door. “The Other Couple”, Mac and Vivienne, apparently booked the same spot for the night, and they have the receipts to prove it. It’s late, it’s storming, and they insist on sharing the place until the problem can be sorted the next morning. Vivienne is especially snobby and rude, but Alice and Finn let them stay in the guest room. This may have been a bad idea…
The other couple has reasons for being there that are revealed as the book goes along, and it’s a wild ride. The only thing none of them know is that Alice also has a motive for being there, which isn’t revealed until the very end. The big twist close to the end floored me. There were several big twists, but I’m talking the BIG twist. I predict it will shock most readers; it was never even close to my radar. There were more twists until the ending, and all were totally unseen by me - kudos to the author, who is new to me! This is a very fun page turner - 4.5 stars.
(Thank you to Bookouture for including me on this book’s tour. “The Other Couple” is slated to be released on October 28, 2024.)
Just finished The Other Couple. Thought I had it figured out, but the ending was SO much better! Tension, disturbing plot, and amazing read-ability. You'll devour this one in a day if not hours! Highly recommend and will purchase for libraries.
Gripping.....Nail-biting.....Compelling read by Triona Walsh. I read this book the minute I was approved because Triona never disappoints. This kept me on the edge of my seat page after page, and, once again, the twist and turns at the end!!
Really, really enjoyed this one! Such a wild ride.
I really enjoyed all the characters and they all have secrets, which made this book SO engaging. You don't find out what's truly going on until the end and I was glued to the page waiting to see what would finally happen when it all came together!
I love the style of giving the reader clues as to what is happening. The story alternates perspectives and you get small twists throughout as you find out more about each character and what is going on. The twist at the end when everything comes together was great and definitely left me shocked. Highly recommend this book!
Thank you Netgalley and the author for the advance copy of this book.
The book showed so much promise when I started reading it. However, I quickly found that many parts seemed quite needlessly drawn out. The book didn't really keep my attention . 2.5 out of 5 ⭐️
“The Other Couple” is a thriller mystery by Triona Walsh. This book was a heck of a ride. From characters with sub-plots (and all seemed untrustworthy) and back-stories to a build-up that seemed pretty incredible. It was very easy to keep track of the separate characters, which isn’t always easy. In general, I’m not a fan of untrustworthy characters, but Mac helped balance things out a bit - at least for me. Not that great a fan of the epilogue, but until that part, a really solid story.
OH! WHAT A READ........
Alice and Finn have booked a holiday in a lighthouse. It is fabulously creepy and when a knock at the door on a rainy night surprises them ..well things really get started.
Finn is Alices boss, they shouldn't be together but that's not the only secret in this twisty tale
Mac and Vivienne, tell the couple they have booked the place for the weekend and Alice thinks there's something amiss with the situation but with the hideous weather Finn convinces her to let the couple stay until they can decide what is going to happen.
Alice is uncomfortable but Finn not at all phased by the couple.. in fact he seems quite at ease..
I loved this book.. it is deliciously menacing and oh so spine chilling.. I loved the ending and how the story developed. I could not put it down...
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 28th Oct 2024. What a compelling and twisty read with many dark secrets lurking in the shadows on a remote Irish lighthouse!
I loved the setting of this remote Irish lighthouse with such an eerie atmosphere question is can they be trusted? This book had many twist and turns that kept me glued to my kindle.
The characters in this book have many secrets and lies which made the plot even more engaging! I’d highly recommend this book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
A forbidden romance, dark secrets, and a mysterious couple's arrival at a remote Irish lighthouse - what could go wrong? Really enjoyed this read!! The setting of a remote Irish lighthouse added to the eerie atmosphere, and the twists and turns kept me engaged. The characters' secrets and lies made for a compelling story that was hard to put down. I was hooked from the start!
My first read from this author which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a fast paced thriller read with good characters which kept me involved in the storyline
My only negative point about this was that I found it a bit drawn out in parts and I tended to lose a bit of interest.
Overall I did enjoy this book and I have no hesitation in recommending it. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
I was drawn in from the opening page a true page turner full of twists and turns. So well written so clever this is an author I will be following.#netgalley #bookoutoure
