The 12th book of the Amanda Steele book series is here and let's see how it fared. When we saw Amanda last, she was trying to make her relationship with Logan better and overcome her attraction for Trent. Well, things come to a head, on that front, in this book and that is one of the best parts of this book according to me. As usual Amanda and Trent are into a murder investigation but the murder strikes slightly close to home because the victim is Michaela, the niece of Amanda's friend, Patty.
Michaela is a rising star in the ice skating circuit and is unexpectedly found dead in her room while getting ready for a performance. Amanda's presence as a spectator for the performance makes her to immediately take up the case and start the Investigation soon after the girl is discovered. But all is not as it seems with the victim and gives the team the idea that many people have got many motives to want her dead.
The investigation takes them to certain venues and also to some of the most unexpected places; to cap it all, the identity of the killer is very much unexpected as well. And Trent and Amanda are able to find the killer only after a couple of detours.
I found this book as entertaining as Arnold's other books as well. I actually felt this book was more crisper than the other books I have read till now. The personal and professional lives of Amanda have been spaced so perfectly that the reader is bound to feel the strain law enforcement officials must be going through while trying to balance a hectic and unpredictable job with the demands of their personal lives.
The story moves in a brisk pace and despite its crisp prose, the author manages to tell quite a number of things in very few pages. The interpersonal dialogues that are interjected between the Investigation, particularly the interaction between Amanda and her mother, were very entertaining and give the much needed levity.
I loved this book as well and can't wait to see where Amanda's life takes her.
A fantastic series of books. I love Detective Steele she is a believable character. It has a fast paced story line which is easy to follow. I look forward to reading more
took me a bit longer to read than normal but thats on me not the book itself i am a big fan of Carolyn Arnold and detective amanda steele and this did not dissapoint - the pace was good it was gripping and i was shocked at the end..
Her Deadly Rose is the 12th book in the Detective Amanda Steele series and is another great addition. Amanda is at an ice show with her daughter Zoe, and two friends Patty and Katherine. Patty's niece, Michaela, is the star of the show, local girl done well. She is in line to compete in the next winter olympics. When she doesn't come out for the finale, Amanda and Patty go looking for her and find her dead in her dressing room. It appears she has died from anaphylaxis, due to her peanut allergy. When it is apparent that someone spiked her protein drink with peanut oil and took her epi-pen, it becomes a murder investigation. As the investigation moves forward, one of their main suspects is also killed. Will they be able to find the culprit and put Patty's mind at ease?
This was an excellent police procedural, set in and around Woodbridge in Prince William County, Virginia. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson, are the best at closing cases, and this will take all their talents to find the culprit. I like how Amanda and Trent work together. They can almost read each other's mind. There were several suspects, a few were actually family members, and lots of clues to follow. Some were red herrings and only helped them to stop chasing down certain avenues. Many of the books in this series have a thriller feel, but I found this was just a well-written and plotted police procedural. As the story unfolds, there are themes of jealousy, grief, death, manipulation, family, and romantic relationships woven into the storyline. I like that Amanda's personal life is taking a turn, one I think is for the better and that Trent is happy with his romantic partner. One thing all these books deal with is the media. Carolyn Arnold depicts them realistically, and shares how they can interfere with an investigation if it doesn't serve their purpose. I enjoyed this book and this series, one that I highly recommend to those who enjoy a police procedural.
True to form, Carolyn deliveries another story that keeps the reader involved long into the story. I was rather surprised as how the story went, especially when Amanda's personally life gets in the way. I
Amanda and Zoe, along with Amanda’s friend and coworker Patty are having a fun day watching Patty’s niece a championship skater at an event in their home area.
Going to congratulate Patty’s niece, they want into a murder scene. Once Trent arrives at the scene they are off and running to find a killer before they can kill again.
Good read. Happy that hopefully at least part of Amanda’s relationship drama is completed.
Ends on a cliffhanger and I’m ready to read the next took.
Reading in Between the Wines book review #126/130 for 2024:
Rating: 4 🍷🍷🍷🍷
Book: Her Deadly Rose (Detective Amanda Steele Book 12)
Author: Carolyn Arnold
Available now!
Sipping thoughts: In the latest installment of Det. Steele, she is solving a murder that hits close to home again. The reveal of this mysterious killer was so sad and dark. I keep waiting to see what is going to happen between the love triangle of Amanda, Logan, and Trent. I know Trent is her current beau and lives with her and Zoe, but I really want her with Logan. Has Logan moved on for good? Will it be too late for Amanda and him to make it happen? This book is at the top of my favorites in all the 12 books.
Cheers and thank you to @Netgalley and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @HerDeadlyRose.

Her Deadly Rose delivers a chilling crime thriller that weaves a complex web of secrets and lies centered around the murder of a champion figure skater. True to Arnold's style, Her Deadly Rose keeps readers on the edge of their seats with its mysterious tone and suspenseful twists and turns.
Her Deadly Rose is the latest installment in the Detective Amanda Steele series, and it doesn't disappoint. Just like the previous book it delivered a captivating story. Amanda finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation when her friend's niece is found dead in her dressing room. Initially, her death seems accidental due to a peanut allergy, but Amanda soon uncovers that it was, in fact, a murder.
This was another solid addition to the series. Once again Arnold gives readers a glimpse into Amanda' s personal life allowing one to watch while she attempts to balance the personal with the professional. Her home situation isn't going so well and her attraction to Trent complicates it even further. While the case hits close to home, she doesn't allow it to cloud her judgement. She relentlessly pursues every lead and at the moment when she believes she got her answer she faces a roadblock when another murder victim came into play.
Following the series from the beginning made it easy to connect with Amanda. Her transformation from an emotional wreck in the first book to a strong, determined woman in the later books was truly inspiring. This installment effectively highlights the effects of greed, jealousy, and a sense of entitlement.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for Amanda in both her personal and professional life.
Love this series and this author. And this book was just absolutely amazing, as always. Fast paced and thrilling, I could not put it down. Wonderful!
Thank you to Bookouture for letting me take part in this tour and for my copy of this book via netgalley. This is the twelfth book in the Amanda Steele series but could be read as a standalone.
This time Amanda is investigating a case close to her friend Patty who also works on the force. There's a few suspects but every interview throws up more doubt. Carolyn does an excellent job of keeping you guessing until the end.
Amanda also has her personal life to handle too. Between her daughter Zoe and her boyfriend Logan she's got her hands full
A great addition to the series and perfect for police procedural lovers.
A figure skater is found dead in her dressing room after a gala. Detective Amanda Steele was in the audience so is first on the scene. The deceased is the niece of a friend which gives an extra incentive for them to catch the killer. A handwritten message shows the murder was personal...
Her Deadly Rose is the 12th book in the Detective Amanda Steele series of crime thrillers set in America. There are no spoilers about previous cases but Amanda's personal life and relationships have developed over the series.
Michaela Glover was a skater with a bright future. But that is abruptly ended when she is killed backstage with a cunning killer using her peanut allergy to murder her. Amanda and her partner Trent begin to look for motive and face a variety of suspects.
Amanda has issues in her private life to contend with as well as the murder investigation. She has a romantic tension with her partner while her boyfriend is talking about wanting a baby. Meanwhile the trauma of her past and that of her adopted daughter are also prominent in her mind.
The book begins with a prologue from the killer's perspective so we are instantly drawn into the narrative. The style of writing is easy to read and the chapters are reasonably short to push the plot and the investigation onwards. I was kept guessing as so many characters seemed to have a potential grudge and have to be eliminated through tireless and dedicated police work.
Her Deadly Rose is an enjoyable crime thriller with a strong female lead.
This is the 12th book in the Amanda Steele series . This one is about jealousy, family and manipulation. I feel this one can be read as a standalone . Carolyn is such a great writer who has me engaged in every book she writes.
Detective Amanda Steele is enjoying an ice skating show with her daughter when she is called to the scene of a crime. The star of the show is found dead in her dressing room with no sign of foul play. Forensics reveals that the skater came in contact with something that caused an allergic reaction leading to her death. Who would know about her allergy? Who could be so diabolical as to find such a way to kill the young woman? Amanda and her team seek answers and a culprit. All the while, Amanda's personal life is in disarray. I look forward to the next book.
Suspenseful from the very first page to the last one, will have you just wanting to set in your favorite reading chair , under your favorite blanket and just read . This is differently a series I will be going on with as well as re reading .
Wow another home run for this author. I adore the main character and every story oozes with suspense and mystery. Well developed characters and a solid plot! Full of twists and turns right to the very end. This is a solid 5 star read. An absolute wild ride.
Don't you actually feel a bit nauseous when you cant give a fully positive review, especially when its for an author you love? It honestly pains me to say this BUT I just couldnt get into this one 🙈
I adore this series and have read and loved each of the previous 11 installments but for some reason in book #12 I just couldn't immerse myself at all.
Carolyn Arnold is by far one of my most favourite authors, and it definitely won't put me off reading future books in the series, just sadly this one just wasn't for me.
I'm still rating 3.5⭐️ as I absolutely love the series and I think it's more of a personal thing, nothing to do with the author (she's amazing).
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
This book was absolutely amazing! Great plot and characters I really enjoyed it. I've read all her books they are brilliant
When an outing with her daughter and friends turns tragic Detective Amanda Steele must solve a murder that hits close to home. Can Detective Steele solve the case while also dealing with issues that have arisen in her personal life?
The latest installment of the Detective Steele books is a wonderful roller coaster of a story. Carolyn Arnold has once again weaved a great story with ups and downs that will leave you asking for more.
Another series about a woman detective. Clearly I’m developing an obsession, and I’m not at all upset about it. Detective Amanda Steele is definitely going to become a favorite of mine. When she discovers her friend’s niece murdered she barely sleeps until the figured out who’s the blame.
I enjoyed walking through the whole investigation with Amanda and Trent. Seeing everything they do and all the steps they take to find the murderer is impressive to me. I love the way the detectives’ minds work and how they piece together what they learn to find the killer.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC of this book.
Book twelve in the Detective Amanda Steele series, I have been following this since book three and this is another solid edition to add to this engaging police procedural series.
Amanda is a dedicated and tenacious character who has a strong sense of justice for her victims and their families.
This book sees the team investigate a murder with a personal link, the story flows at a good pace though a multi layered plot that is intense as it is frustrating!
