Detective Lottie Parker continues to impress.

4.5 stars rounded up.

Book no. 14 in the Detective Lottie Parker series. I only recently discovered the series and had only read the [book:very first book|33558545] before this one. I will say that having that background knowledge helped me to know and understand the characters better, even without having read books 2-13, but "Her Last Walk Home" could also work as a standalone. While the personal lives of the detectives, Lottie in particular, continue to play a part, the main focus remains on the mystery so you don't necessarily need a lot of previous knowledge of the characters to enjoy the story, though it helps.

"Her Last Walk Home" is another fast-paced, complex story featuring Detective Lottie Parker. A young woman's body is discovered and soon after, another one goes missing - and it becomes apparent that the streets of the (fictional) Irish town of Ragmullin are not safe.

I appreciated that the story was told from multiple points of view - the police's, the perpetrator's as well as (some of) the victims' - without sacrificing logic or suspense. This was a gripping, dark mystery that I could not put down.

I listened to the audio book, which was excellent. The narrator did an outstanding job.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"Her Last Walk Home" is slated to be released on September 21, 2024.

Having loved the first audiobook I jumped straight to book 14 which is nothing new for me, but I wouldn’t advise it, I feel it’s too big a jump in this Irish crime series.

It’s great that it’s the same narrator. I love Irish accents, she does a great job adding to the story for me, and giving different accents as well as voice tones.

A young de@d woman is just the start of a complex series of events with multiple POV. You need to concentrate to keep track of what’s happening as this rattles along. The chapters are short and snappy, but there’s no indication of the POV changes.

This book didn’t have the same impact on me as the first book which I loved, I’m keen to listen to more of the earlier books in the series.

The narrator's voice is lovely. I'd listen to her read the dictionary. However, the many different POVs and the lack of distinction between characters, made the story a little hard to follow. If the chapter started with the name of the POV in that chapter it certainly would have helped. The narrator did give different voice inflections between the characters in each chapter, but again, with the numerous POVs, it was a little muddled.

On to the book itself. This is my first book by Patricia Gibney. While this is book 14 in a series it worked well as a stand-alone. I'd know more about Detective Lottie if I had read the others but it didn't feel necessary to the storyline. The ending was a little confusing and hurried, but I did not see it coming and it's always nice to feel surprised by the ending.

Overall I think it's probably better as a physical read than an audiobook.

Michele Moran does another great job narrating the latest Lottie Parker instalment and bringing it to life, I have only listened to book one so far and the characters and the writting have evolved and got better since the 1st story and although I plan to listen to the other books I did not feel I had missed much by listening to this instalment and I am glad Lottie has found love again.

A gripping and well written thriller that keeps you guessing. A dead young woman is found and Lottie Parker investigates then a young woman is reported missing, and a race against time to find her. Full of twists and turns to make your head spin. Michelle Moran adds to this book with her top notch narration and I would listen to her again. Thanks to Bookoutre audio and Netgalley for this review copy.

A young woman anxious to get home after a horrible date finds her self rescued when a taxi pulls up to give her a ride home, But she never makes it home. As Laura’s body is found by a young boy skipping school the mystery starts to build as DI Lottie Parker tries to solve her murder. Soon another murder is discovered as her and Boyd are house hunting to find a house for their nuclear family. Then another body is discovered in a field. Are they connected? Lottie is determined to find out!

This book has you hooked from page one by jumping right in with the first murder! No suspense but it works for this book! I listened to the audio book and completely enjoyed listening as the story was it was being told. I feel this story can happen anywhere at anytime to anyone. I now want to go and read the rest in this series!

I have been enjoying this series of books, though I haven't read all of them. This one is just as gripping and thrilling from the word go… exciting storyline and well written characters. I felt like I was working out the puzzle along with Lottie, and alternating chapters with the POV of the "bad guy" increased the urgency and suspense.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

This high quality audio book is the latest in tge long running series of di Lottie Parker.. its another complicated case within the background of the day to day family relationships that give this a well loved realistic feels. This felt more devoted to the story than the relationships. I loved the way it all pulled together and it was a good stand alone mystery. There was lots of effort to show rge police as people. Lotties's family were very real and have grown throughout the series. It was realistic entertaining and gripping. The narrator did a fab job. Thank yoy netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for this highly recommended 5 star listen.

A woman’s tortured body is found in the early morning. A man is found dead in the garage of a new show home. Are they linked and if so how.? Detective Lottie Parker will work tirelessly with her team to discover who is responsible. This investigation will be complicated in this well paced novel.

Enjoyed this well written and well narrated novel (I listened to the audiobook). Good strong characters with a determination to find the killer/s. Can they save more from death? Enjoyed catching up on Lottie’s personal life too.

This is my second Lottie Parker audiobook, my first one was the first book in the series and I have to say there has been a huge evolution in the way the author writes.
I gave the first one 4 stars as I enjoyed the story but I felt there was something missing, this time the author has definitely found what was missing as I could not stop listening to this book in order to find out what happens!
I wish I could go back and listen to all the other books in the series to find out how the lives of the characters moved on from the events of the first book to get to where they are now in the 14th book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for letting me listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest teview.

Complex plotting makes this a compelling crime thriller.

This is the 14th installment in a long running series that should be read, from the beginning, in order. Because of the intense nature of all of the personal relationships and the changes the cohort has gone through over the years, the reader will want to be on the same page. I don’t feel this works as a standalone or a starting point.

That said, this is a complicated story with the usual characters in the Rugmullin police led by Inspector Lottie Parker. Her boyfriend and partner, Mark Boyd, along with their other colleagues face a diabolical villain. The narrative is told from multiple points of view with some time shifts that make it sometimes hard to keep it all straight. When the body of a young woman is found in a field by the local cinema, Lottie and her team begin an investigation that keeps them questioning suspects and families all over the area. There’s the usual personal drama between the teammates as well as more criminal activity. They examine the little evidence they have and attempt to find the truth even as another body is found and yet another woman goes missing. Things get quite twisty at the end.

This is one of the few series that I still follow and one of my favorites because of the characters. I listened to the audiobook while also following along in the e-book ARC, both provided by the publishers. The narrator did a great job of voicing the many different characters using different tones and varying accents to help relate their individual personalities. Listening while reading always enhances my enjoyment of the book.

This is book 14 in the D.I Lottie Parker series. I didn’t realise it was a book series and have only read book 1 previously. I feel they can be read as a standalone as I didn’t feel I was missing out. It doesn’t focus hugely on the characters backstories but I’d still like to read the others as it seems like a good series to get stuck into. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Lottie has really come into her own as a character when I compare her to the first book. There is really strong character development along with an intriguing storyline that really builds the suspense. Just when you think you’re in reach of what’s going on your left hanging but in a way that adds to your experience as the reader. I loved how it all came together and even more so the many the surprises along the way. Definitely recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen and review #HerLastWalkHome

Her Last Walk Home is the fourteenth novel in the DI Lottie Parker series by Patricia Gibney. And it proves to be a brilliant, if disturbing entry in this strong thriller series by the Irish author.
As always, I look forward to the release of a new novel by Patricia Gibney as I know that I will enjoy an exciting storyline, lead by well-developed and entertaining characters. Since first meeting Lottie Parker, the character has developed and undergone many changes; Lottie is by no means perfect, but she has grown over the series and the reader has seen her battle her personal demons as she supports her family, alongside tackling some gruesome murders and discovering the truth about her past.
And this is my first time listening to an audio version of a book in the series. The narrator, Michele Moran, does a great job in bringing the characters to life. In particular Lottie and somehow, made me feel a greater empathy with her than from merely reading the book.
Within the opening pages, Gibney manages to grab your attention and does not let your attention escape. This is no different in Her Last Walk Home, when the reader is confronted with the inner thoughts of someone, presumably our killer, who is stalking young women, and also meets several potential victims, this development serves to heighten the tension as we know one of these women will be kidnapped but just who?
The author uses a combination of storyline (some long running) to keep up a fast pace and ensure that the action does not stop.
I found that some of the light humour present in previous novels is absent here, but that fits with the increasing darkness of the storyline and also the issues faced by Lottie and her family.
