I loved this book. I'm a big Sonali Dev fan and this didn't disappoint. Mira's journey of self-discovery was inspiring and I wasnt expecting the depth of the exploration of homophobia and social issues but they really enhanced the story and made it a much richer read. I will continue to read anything Dev writes.

I thought the conversation about abortion was well executed, though it could have been given more airtime. But I did feel inspired by how she worked through that shame and reached a point of empowerment (or at least, closure) with the choice she was forced to make.

As always Sonali Dev has written a perfect Bollywood masala book! With goons chasing the protagonists, story being based in US and India, motorcycle rides, wedding shopping and so much more! The only thing missing was some song and dance!! There is some magic when it comes to her books, I finished this one in a day! You can't put it down! Even though this one won't come out until February 1st, I want to read more of her books! What are you writing next!!!! Just send me all your books!

When Mira’s fiancé Dhurv is unable to join her on their engagement trip to New York City even after rescheduling it multiple times, she decides to go alone.
She finds a ring on her trip that leads her to a path of self discovery. Determined to return the ring to its owner, Mira goes on a journey from New York all the way to India and is joined by Krish.
Krish is a local journalist trying to cover the story along with Mira but is also dealing with an emotional past that maybe somehow connected to the ring.

In actuality, There’s Something About Sonali Dev and this beautiful story she wrote that left me emotional and wanting more.

Mira Salvi has what her traditional and overbearing Indian parents have always wanted for her, a wonderful job as a pain management therapist and a wealthy orthopedic doctor as her fiancée. With three months until her wedding, Mira travels alone to NYC on what was supposed to be her “engagement-moon” trip as her fiancée had a work emergency. While on the ground after a fall in Times Square, she finds a ring that clearly is only half of a matching set and so begins her journey to find the owner of the missing half. In response to a post she places on social media, she meets journalist Krish Hale, who wants to help her and document the story along the way. Their search will take them throughout Manhattan and abroad to India where Mira discovers so much more than she set out to find. With heart and humor,

Sonali Dev’s words will fill your heart and impact all your senses. I love the characters she creates and the insight she gives to the beauty of the Indian family and culture.

Thank you NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing and the wonderful Sonali Dev for providing thus reading with hours if reading enjoyment in exchange for my honest opinion. Publication date: March 4, 2025.

Dev’s writing captures the essence of New York, making the city itself feel like a character in the story. The deeper themes of identity, love, and the courage to redefine one’s path resonate powerfully. This book reminded me that sometimes, losing something can lead to finding ourselves. If you’re looking for a heartfelt journey filled with charm, humor, and the magic of unexpected love, this is a story you won’t want to miss!

Thanks NetGalley for an ARC!

This was my first book by this author and what a lovely story!

You would like this if you enjoy:

- mix of present day and historical elements
- New York setting
- female leads navigating culture and finding authenticity
- queer and LGBTQ representation in the desi community

I loved the mystery element surrounding the rings and though the ending did make me teary, it was beautiful. I also love it when brown authors have queer representation. There are some strong themes of family, acceptance, cultural trauma and growth. These may be triggering for some.

I love Sonali Dev and I always love to read Indian/American romance. However, this one reminded me too much of the old Indian movies with all the coincidences. Thank you, Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for giving me the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Wow! What a great read!
This puts me in mind of a news story a few years back when someone lost their ring and another person who found it wanted to give it back to them.
I simply couldn't put it down it was so good!
Wonderful characters and plot.
There's a reason for everything right? I'd like to think so.
I believe that this was a whole heartedly self discovery and life's journey for Mira and her journalist sidekick Krish.
I found myself rooting for them all the way.
Can they return the ring to the rightful owner? I highly recommend that you pick up this wonderful adventure to find out! Beautiful cover too.
5 stars from me for keeping me turning the pages until the end.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

This book is a captivating blend of romance, mystery, and self-discovery that resonated deeply with me. The story follows Mira, who appears to have her life perfectly mapped out with her fiancé Dhruv, but when he’s unable to join her for their planned engagement trip to New York, she decides to go alone. This choice becomes a transformative experience for her, leading to unexpected connections and personal revelations.

Mira’s journey is not just about a physical trip but a deeper exploration of her identity and relationships. In New York, she rekindles her bond with her twin brother Rumi and confronts the challenges of her family's expectations, all while getting tangled in the mystery of a lost ring. The narrative beautifully captures the struggles of navigating cultural heritage and the pressure to meet family expectations, which many can relate to.

Sonali Dev’s writing shines in its emotional depth and sensitivity. The characters are well-developed, and their dynamics reflect the complexities of familial relationships. The themes of self-discovery and the impact of hidden truths are handled with grace, making for an engaging and thought-provoking read.

What truly stood out was the unexpected emotional moments woven throughout the story, especially a pivotal chapter that tackled important social themes. Dev doesn't shy away from addressing complex issues, which adds a layer of realism to Mira’s journey.

It’s a must-read for anyone looking for a story that combines romance with meaningful life lessons. I highly recommend it!

Finding a ring on the street in NYC, Mira decides she has to find the owner so she posted on social media which opens up a lot of crazy responses. With the help of her brother and his fiancé and new friend she goes on an adventure that ends up in India. Liked this one, but the bouncing back and forth got a bit tiresome and skimmed after awhile. Might just be me. Still though, enjoyed this one and the ending and would highly recommend this book and author.

Sonali Dev writes beautiful stories and I have read a good few of them.
There's Something About Mira is a heartrending tale of a woman torn between her family and her own wishes. It's never easy, as a child of immigrants, to navigate the new world around you, stepping around your parent's delicate threads of connection back 'home', and trying to create your own threads as a person with East/Wets heritage.
As her marriage looms, Mira has a lot on her shoulders. She has to consider everyone's thoughts and feelings as she tries to plan for her future.
Druv is perfect. Everyone says so, and he really does seem it. But his wonderful job is always getting in the way.
Then, the one chance they had, pre-wedding, to spend time together gets snatched away, and Mira goes away herself (agreed by the relevant powers who oversee her whole life, though somewhat begrudgingly and with the blessing of her intended).
While out in New York, she rekindles her relationship with her brother and gets tangled up in a lost-and-found incident when she happens across an intriguing ring and necklace. She then meets Krish, someone who can help her with the mystery she is determined to solve, as well as may be other things.
Oh, the way this story unfolded was just brilliant. The family dynamics, as well as learning how to be true to yourself, were played perfectly. There are some key themes that are still considered somewhat taboo within the South Asian culture, even now, especially with some of the older generations, and they are dealt with, with such sensitivity.
I loved it! #TeamMira!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC.

Reading this book took me through a series of so many real emotions. I smiled, giggled, cried and ranted in anger at some characters. I enjoyed travelling with Mira as she discovered herself, her pain, her relationship with family and her roots in India.
This is a 5 star read like any Sonali book so far. The emotions were real, the adventures felt necessary and the resolution was like being able to breathe finally. I love everything about Mira.

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MIRA - SONALI DEV.

As we begin to learn the dynamics of Mira's family and her self-described 'perfect' relationship with Druv, Sonali Dev perfectly intwines the genres of Romance, Mystery and Deep History into this magical novel. We follow Mira in this charming indie romance as she travels across the States to New York to embark on her engagement trip alone, after many postponements from her husband Dhruv, a specialist orthopaedic surgeon. After arriving in New York, Mira stumbles across a ring that will inevitably change her life, and take her on the winding exploration of self discovery and reflection.

With a strong sense of will and determination, Mira feels destined to return this ring to its original owner, with the help of her twin brother Rumi and his partner Saket, they recruit the help of local journalist Krish. Taking us near and far, both geographically and emotionally, the journey from New York to India to return the ring to its rightful owner begins.

The book is a rollercoaster and whisks you away in the madness of it all, whilst also holding dear the themes of the book. The self reflection, self discovery, and realisation that her life might not be all that it seems feels so heartfelt and extremely touching, a key theme in all of Sonali Dev's books to date.

A lovely, touching novel, that takes you on a magical journey alongside a comforting, funny and genuine cast is a must read for its release in Early 2025.

★★★★ [4/5]

This was the perfect book for me this weekend. It had romance, but it also had family issues. I also liked the mystery surrounding the characters and an item that was found. This is more nuanced than you would think. Mira is hoping to repair the relationship with her twin brother, and the two have to get the real issues before they can heal. The characters, all of them, were so well done. The story alternates between letters from years ago, and current times. Not only was that story line interesting, but there is a mystery within a mystery about why Mira is receiving help from a handsome journalist who showed up at her brother's doorstep.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for a digital ARC of this title in exhange for my honest review. All opinions are my own

“If returning to your old life will make you happy, I will be okay. As long as you feel seen and cared for, I’ll be okay. As long as no one makes you feel like you’re lucky to have them, I will be okay. As long as you promise to never put yourself away again, I will be okay....As long as I know you’re happy, I will be okay.”

I’m simply overwhelmed. There’s Something About Mira just makes me feel lighter. Mind you I devoured this book quickly because it weaves history, romance, and mystery into a perfect journey. Sonali provides a full emotional journey that meanders along different paths that makes you smile, laugh, contemplate, and dare I say get teary eyed. Something that I’ve come to appreciate in all my years reading Sonali Dev’s books.

When Mira’s fiancé Dhurv is unable to join her on a scheduled engagement-honeymoon trip to New York City, she throws caution to the wind and goes alone. The trip to New York is life changing as she reconciles with her twin brother Rumi and his partner Saket. But she also finds mysterious ring that leads to a winding path of self discovery. Determined to return the ring to its owner, Mira goes on a journey from New York all the way to India and is joined by Krish. An eager journalist covering the story but is also dealing with an emotional past that comes to fruition in later chapters. The reveals in this are sooo good and also un-expected that I’m not risking any spoilers.

For me the stand out: Chapter Twenty-Four. A reveal that was heartbreaking that I had to put down my kindle for a bit and return to it. <spoiler>Women’s reproductive health and access to care and education is vital. It’s important, and matters now more than ever. Sonali’s very good at infusing real world themes in her books and doesn’t shy away from tough topics. Several are covered in the course of the novel and written with care and caution. Mira and Krish quietly reveal pain that has been silenced for years. How it festers and manifests weighs on you. But both characters transforms.

My only wish is that we never get to read Krish Halle's finished article!

Finally, another favourite quote:

“My home just came to me”.

I don’t know what happened with this book. I got one download that was only one page. I reported it as a glitch. Then I noticed I also had another download of the book itself. The book is fine. I don’t need help with this now. I’ll edit this to reflect an actual book review after reading it*

There’s a formatting problem. When I downloaded this book it says pay 1 of 1, I really, really want to read this book. I love Sonali Dev’s books. Please fix this so I can read it.
