I’m still trying to process this book as I write this review. I’m feeling all sorts of emotions right now. Sadness, anger, outrage, you name it, I’m feeling it. Kudos to Noelle Ihli for taking on the challenge of writing this book. I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre until this novel and I think that’s one of the best things about this book. It will educate readers on a true event that most had probably never heard of before.
Onto the actual review. I’m giving this 4.5 stars. It’s an incredible read and you get to a point where you can’t put it down. I found myself to the very end of the book hoping the outcome of the protagonist would somehow be different. The only criticism is the beginning is a bit slow and drawn out. But once it picks up, boy does it pick up. Highly recommend this novel but it’s not for the faint of heart. Thank you to Net Gallery for the early access to this novel.
Based on the tragic true story of the Mountain Meadow Massacre, this book explores the lives of three woman involved. This books starts in a very gruesome part of the story and you can definitely see Noelle West Ihli's tense and gory style on full display. While it was difficult to read knowing it is based on true events, it was a really strong start. After that it goes into Part 1 and set ups the whole story. All of the story is important and I completely understand that the setting and the timeline necessitate a slower pace than is normal for this author, it was a huge let down for me. Since this book was written by Noelle West Ihli and listed as a thriller and because I've read all of her other books, I had a certain style in mind and Part One was definitely not in that style. I also found it hard to keep the characters straight because (again for reason I understand are necessary), That being said, the back half of the book picked up and all of the set up was definitely important so I understand why it went the way it went.
Overall, I think this was an EXTREMELY strong historical fiction novel that really brought the story of a largely unknown event to a much wider audience..... it just really, really needs to be marketed as such because setting Noelle West Ihli fans ups for one of her thrillers sets insanely high standards that I don't think historical fiction (even when written by a masterful author) can achieve. This is best marketed to fans of 'The Four Winds' or 'The Great Alone' rather than thriller fans.
I had never heard of the mountain meadows massacre before reading this book. In 1857 hundreds of people were on a wagon train going through Utah. This book is based on real people and events that happened and it was horrific! You get three perspectives: the story of the families on the wagon train, the Indians and the Mormons. A must read! None left to tell by Noelle W. Ihli should be required reading in high school. 5 stars. Comes out October 10.
I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre before reading this book. I enjoyed reading this book and learning about this event. The book is told from the perspective of three different women all connected to the massacre. It is sad and gripping, and will keep you hooked from the first page.
‘Three women, connected by one of the most brutal mass slayings in US history. Based on true events, None Left to Tell is the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.’.
I walked into this one completely blind and I gotta say, it was so far from what I was expecting from Ihli that I had to go back to the cover to make sure I opened the book I’d intended to.
Genre is dubbed as ‘thriller’ on GoodReads, but None Left to Tell felt like anything but. This is solid historical fiction through and through, taking place in the mid-1800’s, (especially in comparison to her previous works). No comparison should even be made in this regard, but I couldn’t help it. And I’m sure I won’t be the only one.
I don’t read a ton of hisfic and never anything western-ish. Is that even a term or genre? Idk. But that’s what this felt like to me.
We have war. A horrific cattle raid, resulting in a senseless and bloody massacre. Injustices abound. Heady on religion and polygamy, politics and racism, lies and deceit. Yea, all that plus some. And absolutely not something I’d normally request or be excited to read.
And that’s exactly why I’m okay with having been ignorant this one time. Ignorant enough to go in with assumptions on what I was about to read, when I actually knew NOTHING at all. I don’t know if I’d have committed otherwise. I’ve requested arcs blindly before and wanted to kick my own ass after realizing too late, that I committed myself to a book that I had no interest in reading.
But requesting this one worked out in my favor, because Ihli wrote the hell out of this story. I was invested from start to finish.
To her fans: if you’re expecting to read something similar to Run on Red or Ask for Andrea, this is NOT it. But trust me, you’ll want to tuck in anyway.
Thank you NetGalley and Dynamite Books for this arc in exchange for review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
To start off, I really enjoyed the premise of this book. I haven't read a decent historical fiction piece in a long while, and I found the subject matter of this particular book really fascinating. The Mountain Meadow Massacre was not something that I had heard of before, and it was absolutely horrific to see the entirety of the actions of the killers laid out in this book. To demonise a whole population to cover up your actions is always beyond reprehensible, but this book shed light on something so much worse from the Mormons.
The main characters in this book were interesting, and all of them had defined voices, which I really enjoyed. I will say that I enjoyed the point of view of Kahpeputz the most - she was graceful, kind, and, above all, smart and brave in the face of danger. She was not afraid to speak her mind. The other women were interesting too, and I thought the way that Nancy was written was also quite good, particularly in managing to keep her voice balanced with her age.
I do think that the ending could have been a little tighter - there was a lot going on at the end and it felt a little rushed towards the conclusion, but I thought that as a whole this book was really interesting. It is not always easy to write thrillers, and even less so to write historical ones successfully, but I found this book fascinating and really well tied together all the way through.
This is a great historical thriller based on a real event. I appreciate the authors ability to educate on an event, wel massacre that I had never heard of. This novel focuses on three women and what they went through. I could never imagine having suffered through any portion of this book.
The author did an outstanding job researching for this novel and writing this story in a way that was easy to follow, and also to understand what occurred fully. Such a heartbreaking event. Definitely recommend for fans of thrill and history!
I really enjoyed this one! I didn’t realize it was based on a true story. All the characters and their stories were captivating and so interesting. I felt everything!
This book is so heart breaking. I ache for all our characters and how they were all strong in their own ways and will do anything and everything to save themselves and their lives.
This read as a historical fiction more than a thriller and that's not my typical genre but I still devoured this book. I think Noelle's gonna be my auto-read author now.
I was very surprised to find that I loved this book. I don't normally like historical thrillers. As soon as I started reading and saw the year it was set in, I almost stopped. But, I love this author, so I continued reading. I was so glad that I did. I couldn't wait to finish it and find out what happened. I found myself googling some of the real life characters and falling down a rabbit hole. I actually teared up at one point. Was so pleasantly thrilled!!!!!
This is one of those books that will stick with me forever. The story is based on the true events of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and the real people who lived, died, and participated in the killings. I enjoyed the multiple POVs and connected with every single one on the emotional roller coaster ride of highs and lows. I highly recommend this book for fans of darker thrillers and true crime.
I don't normally read historical fiction but mainly thrillers. However, as I really like Noelle W. Ihli's books, I really wanted to read this book and I haven't regretted it for a second. I have to admit that I had no idea about the subject, as it is unfortunately not dealt with much in Europe. So it was even more exciting for me to immerse myself in the story and see how everything developed. At first I was a bit confused by the many characters - but you quickly get into it and want to find out how the different strands are connected. The book was super exciting, very emotional and not boring for a minute. A few parts really brought tears to my eyes. The book is brutal and heartbreaking and so much more than your typical thriller! I really recommend it to everyone.
Thank you Netgalley for the Arc!
This book was beautifully written, and at times utterly heartbreaking.. I gave it a 4 star because at times it seemed to drag and I would lose a little focus. However with that being said it is still an amazing book and really gives you insight on the horrible massacre that took place in history. I love this authors other books so knew it was going to be a great read!

A heartbreaking and beautifully written story about a historical event I had known very little about.
This book was hard to read at times because of the subject matter but so important.
I look forward to reading more from Noelle!
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Noelle Ihli excels in the 'based on a true story' trope, and she is back in action with her own characters and retelling of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. A series of attacks over four days in 1850s Utah that resulted in over 120 lives lost, this book tackles so many different issues that it is dark but it is goooooood. This definitely feels much more historical fiction than thriller but the stories of these three women forcibly entangled in the lives of men they did not choose is definitely worth the read. Four stars.
None Left to Tell is a harrowing and compelling historical novel that brings to life one of the darkest moments in American history: the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Through the perspectives of three women—Lucy, Katrina, and Sally—author Noelle Ihli deftly explores the complexities of revenge, survival, and loyalty in the face of unimaginable violence. Lucy, driven by a need for justice after years of persecution, prepares for a reckoning as rumors of her family’s tormentors resurface. Meanwhile, Katrina, a mother fighting to protect her children, finds herself walking into a nightmare far beyond the hardships she expected from their westward journey. Sally, trapped in a polygamous marriage, faces a moral dilemma when her husband becomes entangled in a plot for revenge.
Ihli’s portrayal of these women’s struggles is both raw and emotionally charged, bringing a deeply personal lens to a tragic historical event. The tension builds as their lives converge around the brutal mass slaying, making the reader feel the weight of the choices and sacrifices each character must make. None Left to Tell is not only a gripping narrative of survival but also a thought-provoking examination of how faith, power, and vengeance can collide with devastating consequences.

Noelle is an auto read for me as I have loved ALL of her books so I was so excited to get this ARC for her newest one!
This novel covered the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1860 and reads more like historical fiction which was different than her typical thrillers. I enjoyed it for the most part although I did find it slow at times. Part 2 that covers much later than the actual massacre picked up for me. Parts of this book will definitely break your heart so be prepared!
Whilst this is a book of fiction, it is based off true events. And these events are heartbreaking, chilling and thrilling.
Written in multiple POV's - three women before, during and after the Mountain Meadow Massacre in 1857 and then also one of the surviving children after the massacre and the effect it had on her. Before reading this book I hadn't heard anything about this massacre, and as I mentioned it is absolutely heartbreaking.
This definitely wasn't an easy read, but by gosh it was an interesting read. I especially loved Noelle's AFTERWARD at the end. To know how she gathered her information and her own connection to the story and the characters was great to read.
Typically I wouldn't choose historical fiction to read, but Noelle this was written perfectly.
What makes None Left to Tell stand out is its vivid portrayal of historical events combined with richly developed characters. The narrative is well-paced, with each woman’s perspective adding layers to the overall story, keeping the reader deeply engaged. The author’s meticulous research is evident, but the history never feels dry or academic. Instead, the human experiences at the heart of the novel make the story feel urgent and real.
Having never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre before, I found this book both educational and gripping. The novel doesn’t shy away from depicting the brutality of the time, but it is done in a way that serves the story and deepens our connection to the characters. The pacing and emotional tension kept me turning pages, and I didn’t want to put the book down.
Overall, None Left to Tell is an unforgettable read that sheds light on a tragic piece of history through a well-told and deeply affecting story. Fans of historical fiction will appreciate the depth of research, while the strong emotional core will appeal to anyone who enjoys character-driven narratives.
This was definitely a well written story. I enjoyed it very much although it was quite a sad ordeal. I never heard about what this story is based about so it was quite an eye opener for me.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this in return for my honest review.
