I need to start by first saying that I love the books by Noelle West Ihli however this one just wasn't for me. It was not the thrillers that I'm used to from her and it was really more a historical fiction read and that is not my genre of choice. Because of that I found it really hard to get into and it just didn't grab my attention.
I want to start by saying a HUGE thank you to @netgalley, @dynamitebooks, and @noelleihliauthor for the opportunity to read this book before its release on October 10th. I had just signed up for an account a couple of weeks prior when it piqued my interest but hadn't had a chance to dig into it. When I saw Noelle's post about it being available for request I immediately jumped at the chance. Considering this is my first review from them, I was NOT expecting to be picked and had every intention of pre-ordering this book once it became available. When I got my email I literally screamed out loud from excitement and utter shock.
None Left to Tell is based on the true events of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The story felt more like a historical fiction than a thriller, but there are plenty of edge-of-your-seat scenes and intense content.
My mind is still reeling from this book. I had no idea this event had happened. It's beyond heartbreaking and eye-opening. The book did start slow but did eventually pick up (stick with it!). The emotional journey was insane and worth the read. Definitely do not go lightly and blindly into this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for the ARC. This book was well written and a grim look into some history, however, I wouldn’t classify it as a thriller. Historical fiction… yes, Westernish…yes. Maybe I’m just jaded but it didn’t hit thriller vibes for me. I learned a lot about Utah history and I was raised in Utah and don’t ever remember learning any of this in school. It is very sad that this ever happened.

Wow! This was an incredible read!
Noelle is an auto buy author for me. She writes such captivating and scary thrillers, and I was excited to be granted this ARC from Netgally.
That being said, I was surprised to discover this is not exactly a thriller but a compelling, heart-wrenching story inspired by true events of the 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲.
This forgotten part of history was brutal. 120 people were murdered, families torn apart, and the violence children witnessed against their parent caused my heart to break repeatedly.
The story takes place in Utah in 1857 and follows the POV of three incredibly strong women, though separate, their individual journeys are connected through this horrific period in time.
Noelle's writing is incredible, and you can feel the heart she put into these people's stories to shine a light on a part of history that needs more recognition. I was fully invested and often found myself emotional.
Her character building is impressive, and I felt every ounce of fear and horror pouring off the pages from these families who were under attack.
I enjoyed the afterword where the author talks about how the story is directly related to her ancestors and how she kept the characters as close to the real people as possible
and more. It was very touching.
I highly recommend this to thriller and historical fiction readers as more people need to know about this forgotten time in America.

⚠️ This is definitely a heavy story, and some topics are difficult to read about, so please read the warning page at the beginning of the book.
My thanks to Netgally, the author and publisher for my gifted arc. My review was voluntary.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. I wasn't expecting the setting to be so far back in history. It was very different for me, and I had a hard time getting used to it. But Noelle West Ilhi is a remarkable writer, and did very well. There's a deadly massacre, and I loved learning about the mormons. That is fascinating. Overall, a well written book
"None Left to Tell" by Noelle W. Ihli offers an intriguing premise, blending mystery and emotional depth. The characters are well-developed, and the writing style flows smoothly, making it easy to get lost in the story and horrific events. However, I have never been a huge history buff so at times, the pacing felt slow and hard to imagine. While the book has its strengths, I wouldn’t classify this book as a thriller, but more of historical fiction. Overall, it's a decent read and I enjoyed learning about a historical event I never knew existed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.
What a story! I had absolutely no clue about this historical event, so thank you to the author for bringing awareness. I could not put this down and won't forget it for a long time. Highly recommend.
This is not the typical book written by Noelle, and therefore not the type of book I usually read. None Left to Tell is a heart breaking story based on true events that took place in the mid 1800's. There are a lot of characters so I had to take note to keep their stories straight. The stories for each POV is well written and the events well researched. At times the book was hard to read because of how devastating it was. I had never heard of the mountain meadow massacres so I ended up dong my own research of the events online. If books about historical western events is your passion then this is the book for you.
My Rating :⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 Riveting Stars
I need a moment while I compose myself, I was not expecting to feel so deeply after reading this story.
After reading two of her other books this one is so unique and completely different from her others so my suggestion just go in blind on this one !
Wow Noelle has outdone herself with a riveting heart wrenching and compelling story based and inspired by true events on The Mountain Meadows Massacre.
I admire the patience and research the author poured into this story to give us an epic tale that I would never heard of if it was not for Noelle writing such a poignant tale.
This story is told from several woman's point of views and be prepared to be transported back in time and crossing the hot plains of Utah .
The character building was impressive and I was so enamoured by these woman. As harrowing of a story this is I was so captivated and couldn't put this one down.
We are immersed when approximately 120 men and woman and children are gunned down and we are breathing and whispering right beside these woman begging for these merciful Mormon's to cease fire...this story is gruesome and heartbreaking and you will fall in love with these characters and have so much compassion and anger while reading .
The story is set in the mid 1800's and is such a fast paced gripping historical fiction, and the writing is exquisite.
I highly recommend this one for fans of historical fiction based on true events and strongly believe this will be a timeless classic for years to come 🙏
Thank you NetGalley, Dynamite Books and Noelle W Ihli for this amazing ARC!
Respectfully Another Read by Angie
This book was wildly different than I expected (based solely on the cover and the categorization of “thriller”) but will stick with me for a long time. I would say this read more as a historical fiction, which wasn’t a problem for me since I love those too, but if you’re expecting a thriller with twists and a mystery, that’s not really what this book was.
As someone who grew up in Idaho and is very familiar with Mormon culture, I was surprised that I have never heard of the Mountain Meadow Massacre. As soon as I finished this I immediately googled and read about it to see what there was to find. This book is shocking, unsettling, and deeply disturbing because it is based on true events that are horrendous and sad. I’m glad that I now know a little bit about this historical event and that more people will be exposed to it as well through this story. The writing was excellent and I’m excited to read more from this author, as this was my first book by her. I liked how all the different women’s stories were woven together to show different perspectives. I also appreciated that there were some sweet and hopeful things at the end so that it didn’t just feel like a total bummer. This is definitely a heavy read and I’m going to need a happy rom com to cleanse the palate now, but I highly recommend reading this to educate yourself on a dark and forgotten tragedy in our nation’s history.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book far exexceeded my expatations. It was very well written .The historical value was heart wrenching at times but it felt like the story came alive as I was reading. I would highly recommend this book especially of you love historical books.
When I say OmG I mean it!!! I love Noelle’s books & this was no different. I cried at the pain I felt in this book. To know something like this happened in our history is heartbreaking & even more heartbreaking that it was covered up. The research that was done showed and made for an an amazing book. I will definitely be looking into the Meadows Massacre more in depth after this! Definitely would recommend!
Rounding up to 4.5 stars. ⭐️ Wow! What a heartbreaking story. This was my first Noelle Ihli book and I went in blind. I had to stop several times and let it all sink in what I was reading. This story will stay with me for some time. I will be reading her other work in the near future, but it will take me a minute to recover from this.
An incredibly heartwrenching novel based on true events. I cried throughout. Incredible writing by Noelle W. Ihli
This was incredibly gripping. I had heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre when I was younger, coming from a LDS background. I knew bits about this horrific incident, but not to this extent. I wouldn't call this a "thriller" per se, but a harrowing historical fiction. I appreciate how much research and thought went into this story, including all the accuracy with circumstances and characters. I felt breathless and on the edge of my seat from the first page. This was so well done, another great read from Noelle Ihli!
A very good yet tragic novel based on a true story. A tale of strength, grief, loss and the complexities of human relationships. This massacre should never have happened. It’s unfortunate that the majority of us had no knowledge of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Even though the characters suffered so much devastation they remained hopeful to the bitter end.
The author’s ability to capture the intricacies of life and the process of healing is superb.
This was beautifully written but an incredibly difficult and graphic read for me. I bawled my eyes out, especially at the end.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book is a heavy read, no doubt about it. I found it hard to get into at first, and the multiple points of view felt a bit disjointed until about a third of the way in, when I finally started to connect with the characters. But once it clicked, I was drawn into the emotional depths of the story, even though the violence and tragedy at its core were tough to stomach. It centers on the Mountain Meadows Massacre, a historical event that was completely new to me, and it was pretty jarring to realize how little I knew about it.
What really stood out was how the book tackles the gray area of morality. It feels like there are no real “good guys” in this story, which seems to be the author's point. The massacre itself is brutal, and there’s a lot of violence—especially against children—that makes this a challenging read for anyone sensitive to that kind of content. The fact that the story is based on real events only makes it hit harder.
Overall, while it’s marketed as a thriller, I’d say it leans much more into historical fiction. The pacing slows down at times, but that gives space to explore the emotional weight of the massacre and the characters' complex relationships to it. If you're into historical fiction, especially stories that dive into the darker parts of American history, this could be for you. Just know that it’s intense and not exactly an easy ride.

NONE LEFT TO TELL
This book, “NONE LEFT TO TELL” by Noelle W. Ihli is the reason I joined Net Galley! Once I finished reading “GRAY AFTER DARK” I began cruising Noelle’s Instagram where she mentioned “NONE LEFT TO TELL” as a potential September release on Net Galley. Down the rabbit hole I went and with the completion of this book I am already six books into my Net Galley journey!
A fan of thrillers, I am definitely not a history buff yet this book sucked me in and I found myself invested in all three women as main characters; turning page after page, feeling so many emotions, continuing to hope for the best possible outcome.
From descriptions of the scenes that made me a little squeamish to the angst and heartbreak I felt during the massacre and beyond, the author did fantastic work in getting me to push through the awful circumstances that the families endured.
Be sure to stay connected for the AFTERWORD; it’s fascinating to learn more about the foundation of the book and how the author’s personal family history is intertwined.
Well done, great work!
But since it has so ordered been
by a time to rise and a time to fall
Come fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all…
When a Mormon militia seized a wagon train in Utah, in 1857, there was a lot of blood on their hands. But instead, Mormon leaders attempted a cover- up and destroyed all records of the event.
Lucy’s family was driven from their home ten years ago by an anti-Mormon drive. Now, some of these same men are passing through her home in Utah. Katrina, a young mother, knew this journey to California would be difficult but she had no idea the brutality she would be walking into. Then there’s Sally, a lonely and scared young woman who has been “gifted” to a man she doesn’t even know as his fourth wife. Though separate, their individual journeys show strength they never knew they possessed - or thought they would need.
I have loved every book of Noelle Ilhi’s that I have read, so I grabbed this one the second I saw it on Netgalley - without reading the synopsis. She writes some of the scariest thrillers I have ever read, but this book was something different. Part historical fiction, part mystery, the horror that human beings inflicted onto each other in the Mountain Meadows Massacre was scarier than any fiction could be. The massacre was brutal and my heart broke so many times reading this story - families ripped apart, children watching their parents be bludgeoned to death right before their eyes. It’s something straight out of a horror story, but worse because this story is an account of an actual event.
Shockingly, I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre before and the 120 people murdered truly deserve better than that. This is a grave injustice that needs to be brought to light, and in reading this story, the author’s fierce determination to do just that was apparent. Ilhi told their stories in such a respectful, heartfelt way. Even though it made me cry, I am honored to have read this book. This story - and its characters, based on real people who lived it - will be in my mind for a long time.
“None Left to Tell” releases October 11, 2024. Thank you to Dynamite Books for the ARC!

Three women from different backgrounds linked together by a massacre. Each woman trying to be true to her family and background are tormented by these same things.
Wow! Just wow! First of all, Ihli’s writing is incredible and special. This isn’t my first book by her and it also won’t be my last. She is talented and has a way of gripping you in and telling a story like no one else can.
This story is important and emotional. It is also based off true events. Like very closely, even the characters are based off real people during this event. I cried a few times reading this especially knowing that. It is told from the perspective of women from all different positions during this massacre.
I want to mention this is unlike Ihli’s other books or other books in general. It is historical fiction so close to the actual event and it is thrilling because it is being told during the event, but not a typical thriller that most people would think of. That being said, read it, but be ready to be destroyed. Also, be ready to go a deep dive afterwards of the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for the advanced copy of this book.
