This is a book based on a historical period of time that happened in 1857. It is a very difficult story to read and the impression I got from the authors note was it was difficult to write after going through the research. I appreciated the fictional (or based on historical figures) point of views. We get to see the story through the “groups” they represented. At times, it was very difficult to stomach. I think it’s written very well but the subject matter (Mormon church leaders and their followers) was a big turnoff for me. Things in the name of religion just really continue to reinforce my belief that the use of violence in the name of someone’s god is the root of evil.
The author gives incredible insight into a massacre that is not well-known and until recently hardly acknowledged. I give high praise for shedding light on these events.

None left to tell is based in the 1800s and follows a family on their travels to better land. I found it hard to get into the book at test because the time setting and genre are not my typical style. I pushed through and grew to love the stories and each character. And wanted to get to the end!!

As a fictional re-telling of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, this book is long but an intriguing look at an event I'd never even heard of as it takes place in 1857 and involves Mormons and Indians in their attempts to get along and understand each other's customs. One of the main characters is Sally who was the actual wife of famed Brigham Young. The novel shows the slow progression of people--many on foot or on horseback as they travel to find a place to live and make a name for themselves free from persecution. It's long and sometimes tedious, but I really enjoyed learning more about a subject I'd heard about but knew so few details as I'd never gotten any of it in school.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Here 120 men, women, and children were
massacred in cold blood early in September.
They were from Arkansas.
- Inscription by US Cavalry, marking a mass
grave at Mountain Meadows, Utah
None Left to Tell is a fictional retelling of the Mountain Meadows Massacre that happened in Utah in 1857, which resulted in one of the largest mass murders in US history. The conflict involved the Mormons, the Paiutes, and members of an emigrant wagon party heading to California from Arkansas. The story unfolds with alternating chapters that detail three different women's experiences. I really enjoyed those different perspectives depending on whose side each woman was on, and how it helped to give the reader a broader picture of what was going on.
I also really appreciate Ihli's candor in telling this story. She mentions at the beginning and end of the novel that she is a direct descendant of one of the Mormon families mentioned. Not all family history is pleasant and I applaud her courage in telling such a haunting (and at times downright disturbing) story of our countries history. No small task, but one Ihli told with extreme care and respect.
As an Arkansan myself I had never heard of this event. It's not shocking (but disappointing all the same) that when it comes to religion some sinful acts have attempted to be erased from history. Hopefully, with this novel more people will learn from humanities past mistakes to make a better (and kinder) future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for an ARC of None Left to Tell in exchange for my honest review. I can't wait to read more from Ihli soon.

MY THOUGHTS
- Historical fiction.
- Ihli clearly did her homework on this one, and I learned a lot! I am shocked that I never heard of this happening, and frankly, this book made me realize I don’t know a lot about Utah’s history.
- I’m not a huge history buff, but I do love a well-written historical fiction. This book was engaging, and worth the read.
- Excellent character development & weaving together the many different lives and stories.
- This book has a LOT of triggers & tough content. I would recommend looking into those if you are trying to avoid anything.
TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️well-written historical fiction of a lesser known massacre in Utah. check for triggers.
Thanks to Dynamite Books and Netgalley for this digital ARC in exchanges for an honest review. This book will be published on October 10, 2024.

Actual goosebumps on my arms as I finished this book, such a heartbreaking but eye opening read.
Definitely recommend

I’ve needed to sit with this a while. I can’t possibly put into words how this book made me feel but I’ll give it a go…
I like books set in older time frames but this is the first real historical fiction book I’ve read and isn’t something I would normally lean towards. However, I am a big fan of Noelle and her writing style and was intrigued by her own connection to the real events that this story is based on and just wow.
It’s incredible how she managed to translate this utterly heartbreaking story (The Mountain Meadows Massacre) onto the pages and make it accessible to someone like me who had no prior knowledge. I actually do recommend going in blind and just letting the story encompass you, as it will within minutes.
The book overwhelmed me (in the best way possible) and I almost feel a better person for reading it. I’m not American, I had no prior knowledge of this event, but after reading this book even I almost feel a connection to it.
It’s horrifying but beautiful at the same time and completely emphasises the blurry lines between ‘them’ and ‘us’ during conflict. This would have been an excellent book anyway, but the fact that it is heavily in keeping with true events is both unbelievable and completely believable at the same time. You can whole heartedly feel Noelle’s connection to the story throughout and her mission to deliver the true story of those involved who have, in her own words, ‘been relegated to a side note in history’.
I won’t say any more, I don’t want to spoil it.
Even if this book isn’t your ‘vibe’ on the surface, I whole heartedly recommend it.
I was able to read it as an ARC. I believe it is due to be released (in the UK) on October 11th and I suggest adding it to your TBR immediately x

Wow. I was expecting to be entertained by this book, the premise was interesting and I have been interested in the author’s other works for a while. What I was not expecting, was to learn about a part of American history I was completely unaware of, or to be moved by the real families involved in this tragedy.
This book is labeled as a thriller, and while it definitely has thriller elements, it is also very much a historical fiction. I had never heard of the mountain meadow massacre, but was grateful to learn about it through the eyes of several fictional women based on very real people who lived this tragedy.

based off true events of the mountain meadows massacre that took place in utah in 1857, none left to tell is told in the POV of multiple women; lucy, katrina & sally- who are all on different ends of this conflict that resulted in one of the most horrific massacres on US soil.

this is an important story that needed to be told, and noelle did an amazing job at making this not only emotional but impactful and thought provoking. this is a historical fiction, and noelle doesn’t shy away from the detail on the trauma and suffering, the internal conflict, and a persons undeterminable will to survive. it took some time to build up the characters and at times there were lulls, but it was for a purpose. when you get to it, you’ll know why.
this was heavy & emotional. i had to take frequent breaks because of the nature, and recognize this may not be for everyone, so please check the trigger warnings. your mental health matters. 🫶🏻

thank you noelle ihli for sharing this story and bringing awareness to the world. your writing brings to life the voices of the victims. in the forward, i read the signs you received when you sat down to write and i cried. 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤. i also read every single one of the victims names - their legacy is not forgotten. thank you.

I must admit that I was sucked into this book from the first page. I was surprised because I had no clue on what to expect. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Great read!!

A journey to a new beginning becomes a fight for survival when left to the elements and human nature. The story focuses on three women who are all connected by tragedy.
It's 1857 and Katrina Huff and her family make the savage 1800-mile trek from Arkansas to California riding ox-wagons. They are experiencing the effects of a devastating drought which causes the spread of disease and death amongst the livestock and people.
Kahpeputz is a seventeen-year-old Bannock woman gifted as the fourth wife of Chief Kanosh from the Paiute Indian tribe; who were converted to Mormons by missionaries. She hates her much older husband and longs to return to her true family.
Lucy Robinson a practising Mormon lives in Fillmore, Utah with her husband and children. After previously receiving death threats and having their home burnt down in Syracuse, New York State they fled to Utah. Lucy is now tired of running and determined to protect her family at any cost.
This is based on the historical account of the Mountain Meadows massacre that occurred in Utah.
Noelle West Ihli has approached this story with care. While it is a fictional account she has done thorough research into the historical accuracy of the events. It is an emotionally stirring narrative with a few unexpected twists that highlight the horrors and dark side of human nature. It questions when a sense of duty to your leaders goes against your morals and values. Themes of racism, human trafficking, and personal autonomy are brought in. Some of the horrors are witnessed through the eyes of children which makes it all more brutal. The story then jumps ahead three years and shows the lingering after-effects on the 'survivors.' In times of war, no one is left unscathed.
Thank you to Dynamite Books for providing this eARC for review via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This book was absolutely gut-wrenching in the best way possible. I was captivated from start to finish, and its themes have invaded my thoughts since I finished reading. As someone who loves history, I’m saddened that I didn’t know this true story before. As a parent and spouse, I found myself deeply relating to Katrina and Lucy’s experiences, yet I can hardly fathom the depth of their feelings.
“No One Left to Tell” presents a complex narrative that really delves into the intricacies of human relationships. The author masterfully explores the emotional weight of the events, making you reflect deeply on the nature of humanity.
I truly hope this book finds its way into the right hands, as there’s still so much to learn from this story, even after 170 years. Don’t pass up the opportunity to read it; it will challenge and move you in the best possible way.

I think there might have been some formatting issues at the beginning... or it could have been my kindle. Either way this was fantastically written. I loved it. Definitely lived up tobeing heart-wrenching and riveting 👏🏻

Amazing, just wow. This book sucked me in immediately! I’ve never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre or knew Mormans & non Mormons had such hatred for one another all those years ago. None Left to Tell did an amazing job of telling this beautifully captivating story about such a tragic event. I could not put this book down. I loved following the three women’s stories and seeing how everything tied together. it was Such a harrowing & heartbreaking read. You can tell Noelle really took her time and poured her heart into this book, it’s truly amazing & I definitely recommend picking this up!

Wow this was an amazing book from an author that is new to me. Lucy, Katrina & Sally are strong brave women portrayed so beautifully in this book full of such difficulties.
Their stories are difficult and heart wrenching but these women are so amazing
Very well written and I’ll be reading more from this author

Noelle W Ihli is at it again! This read hit me everywhere! I definitely recommend it if you're looking for something different to read. It's a thriller mixed with a historical fiction vibe and is based on a true story/real events.
It is so powerful, and I loved each woman's story woven throughout the chapters, a great flow that always keeps you needing to know how the other women are feeling as well as what's going on or what might happen next.

“None Left to Tell” is such a heart breaking and compelling story of the Mountain Meadow Massacre. I really enjoyed this story. Such a heartbreaking story but one that I believe needs to be told.

Important, emotional, and violent story- a story everyone should be aware of, a blot on the country's history that must be lit and acknowledged. A well done fiction of truth, gripping and intense.

Never a disappointment with this author! Queen of thriller books and always gets my completely immersed into each character’s perspective. That being said this book is a different type of read compared to her others and is more of a historical theme with real events. A lot of research had to have went into writing this and I appreciate her efforts that went into this book.

Thanks to netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have read every book by Noelle W. Ihli and with each one you can see the growth in her writing.
None Left To Tell was no exception, but be prepared because it is unlike any of her other works to date.
None Left To Tell is a historical fiction based on the Meadow Massacre in 1857. It closely follows 3 women all from different sides of this terrible event.
This is a heavy, tense read featuring religion (Mormons) and a lot of violence towards innocent men, women, and children.
I am so thankful Noelle told this story. You can tell she did extensive research and kept the nature of the events as factual as possible. I was blown away!
Keep in mind this is not a book to go into blind. Be prepared for the heavy undertones and Thank you to the Author for telling a story that has been deeply overlooked and forgotten.
I can't wait to see what she writes next!!
