Wow! Another fantastic read by Noelle Ihli. This novel gripped me from the very beginning and kept me flipping pages long into the night. Dark and gritty, not for the faint of heart. Such an uncomfortable topic, utter devastation So many heartfelt emotions.
Thank you NetGalley, Noelle Ihli and Xpresso Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers, and Noelle W. Ihli for an ARC of None Left to Tell. As soon as I heard there was a new book by Noelle I knew I needed to read it as soon as possible. I couldn’t have imagined a more haunting book as this one as it is tightly based on real events. I am thankful for Noelle to write this to bring light on the Mountain Meadows Massacre. This is one that I will think about for the rest of my life. I can’t believe the events that unfolded and how far people would go for their own beliefs, but also likewise for the ones they love. Even if you are not a fan of historical fiction, I would honestly recommend anyone and everyone to read this book to bring more light on the lives lost and the history of the United States and Noelle’s personal connection and research.
Three women are connected by one of the most brutal mass slayings in US history. Lucy is tired of running - an anti-Mormon mob drove her family and friends from her home. But now the Mormon’s are in control. The rumor is that the same men are moving through Utah to start their lives in California. Katrina, apart of the wagons moving to California knew this trek would be difficult, but was excited to start their new lives. She’s a mother of 4 and will do what it takes to keep them safe. Katrina doesn’t realize the extent it means to keep her family safe. Sally has been taken from her family and gifted to a new one. Now she is a 4th wife. She’s incredibly lonely and an outcast, but tries to make the best of her new life. Her husband announces they are going to join a religious group to get revenge, she’s forced to reconsider her loyalty.
Holy snot bubbles! I just finished None Left to Tell, what a heart-wrenching story.
Noelle Ihli became my favorite author earlier this year when I discovered Ask for Andrea and then devoured all her books in a matter of weeks. Gray After Dark has been my favorite read of the year until now. I was lucky enough to get my hands on Noelle Ihli’s newest book, None Left to Tell via NetGalley. This historical fiction book is beautifully told by three points of view: Katrina (mother on a wagon train to California), Lucy (Mormon who fled New York to Utah to avoid persecution), and Kahpeputz/Sally (servant to Brigham Young’s 4th wife). Noelle Ihli does a phenomenal job sharing their stories and revealing a dark time in American history. If you love history, I highly recommend this nail-biting, page turner about the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre. Noelle, and these ladies have left a mark on my life.

"None Left to Tell" is a powerful and vivid look at grief and resiliency that captures the reader's attention from the first few chapters. Ihli's writing explores the depths of the human condition, offering a heartbreaking and brutally honest story. The story follows Eliza, the main character, as she works through the fallout from a terrible incident that has permanently changed her life. Eliza ponders on her loss in a section where Ihli masterfully captures her inner turmoil: "Each day, the echoes of the past reverberate through the empty halls of my mind, a constant reminder of what once was and what will never be again." Ihli's ability to capture the nuances of the human psyche is demonstrated by its unadulterated emotional depth.
What truly stands out in "None Left to Tell" is Ihli’s ability to balance intense psychological depth with a gripping and hopeful narrative. The author’s keen insight into human nature and her deft handling of sensitive themes result in a story that resonates on multiple levels. The novel's exploration of personal resilience and the quest for closure is thought-provoking and satisfying, making it a standout read for fans of psychological drama and character-driven fiction. Overall, None Left to Tell is a testament to Noelle Ihli's skill as a storyteller, offering readers a profound and unforgettable experience.
After reading all of Noelle West Ihli’s previous books, this was not what I was expected. I thought I’d find myself in another nail biting thriller, instead I was given a heart breaking and mind blowing work of amazing historical fiction.
Based on actual events of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857 that occurred in Southern Utah.
This tale follows three women, Katrina, Lucy and Sally. All three women have their own story but are connected by one of the most brutal mass slayings in US history.
This was a brilliantly written, powerful story that I will be left thinking about for awhile.
It took a bit to familiarize myself with each character. However, once I was able to distinguish who is who in the story, I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next!

Thank you NetGalley for sharing a digital copy with me in exchange for an honest review.
Noelle West Ihli is one of my favorite authors, and, even though this book read more as a historical fiction than a thriller, she has a way of writing that keeps you captivated. It still contains thrills that will have your heart rate speeding up! There were moments of sadness that made me want to cry, and I felt so privileged to be able to read about what these three women in the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857 went through. You could tell the author poured her heart into this one and the attention to detail is incredible Bravo for yet another great read!
Wow is all I need to say about this captivating story about three very different women whose lives played out during the Mountain Meadow Massacre. Noelle expertly weaves the tales of these three women seamlessly that you feel as of your there experiencing all that they are. She takes you on the trail with the wagons and I felt if I were watching from the sidelines. The story of these women will linger with me for quite sometime! Beautiful piece mastery written by Noelle. Thank you for putting the truth out there where dome people thought the past couod stay hidden forever!
What a remarkable, sad, true, heartfelt story, it touched my heart. The sadness reaching my inner soul. To know this actually happened in our history is unbelievable. This book was written with such warmth on such a horrific event. Bravo to the author for bringing this story to life.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book
Thanks to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for an advanced copy of None Left to Tell in exchange for an honest review.
This is now the third book I've read by Noelle W. Ihli, and she is definitely becoming one of my favorite thriller writers.
Coming into this story, I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Her author's note did a great job explaining her ties to this awful moment in history, and why it was important for her to tell it. She also explained some of the creative liberties she took, why she made those decisions, and even explained what everyone believed actually happened. It was very clear that she understood how delicate of a subject this story was to tell, and did a great job trying to stay true to her source material and didn't change things necessarily for shock value. I believe she truly wanted to tell the story of what these people had endured and lost.
I will also have to say, this wasn't an easy read. Lots of elements were difficult topics to discuss, such as child death, racism, religious/holy wars, animal death, to name a few. None Left to Tell was told through multiple POVs, which I think was an absolutely fantastic choice, given the various sides of the story. Katrina was a Christian woman, traveling west with her husband and children, trying to make a new life for themselves. Lucy Robison was a woman who had converted to Mormonism with her husband, and they traveled to Utah in order to avoid religious persecution from the Christians. On this end, there was a lot of animosity between the Christians and the Mormons, and the potential of a holy war happening because of it. The other point of view was from Kahpeputz (known as Sally), a native woman ripped from her tribe and married off to the chief of another. She was hated as well because she wasn't part of the same tribe; additionally, you see how the Mormons had used this tribe as a scapegoat for their horrible actions. The way their stories were intertwined in the end was absolute perfection.
Despite being over 400 pages, I flew through this book in two days. My heart was broken while reading this. It's sad how hatred towards those who are different (whether it be religion and/or race), and the lack of accountability in tandem with poor leadership led to such a devastating situation. Even though this took place in the 1800s, it's sad to see similar events playing out today, here in the US and around the world. I highly recommend this one, because it was told so well, and had such a powerful message.
This was an eye opening read on something that I was not aware had happened in history. It was definitely a story that needed to be told.
This book was very well written and researched. I do appreciate everything that went into this book and I love her other books, this was just not my type of book. If you are a fan of historical books this would be great for you.
What an incredible rendering of such an underexposed aspect of our history!
Noelle Ihli masterfully depicts the massacre at Mountain Meadows through this historical fiction, based off the true events that occurred in Utah in 1857. The story follows the perspective of three women from all aspects of involvement, a Mormon wife, emigrant crossing the meadow, and a Native American girl, to build a complete picture of what happened and how those involved were effected.
As someone who is not a history buff or who enjoys reading about history, this book was so important! This story was so personal from the first sentence and really brings the reader into the world of each character, while maintaining accuracy of true events. You don’t have to have knowledge of the massacre or even the time period this took place, Noelle Ihli effortlessly bridges the time gap and ensures authenticity and integrity of each aspect of the story. Once finished, I immediately took to the internet to look into the Mountain Meadows Massacre and further educate myself of this important part of history.
I think when authors are able to personalize and create a book based off true events, especially a subject such as historical fiction, it can encourage young readers to become more involved in learning about the past and ignite a desire to want to learn more. This book was powerful in that regard and was only further propelled by the author’s personal attachment to the story.
Thank you NetGalley, Dynamite Books, and Noelle Ihli for this ARC.

I will read all things by Noelle and I am always blown away with every new book she release. This book was fantastic. This has you sitting and turning page after page on the edge of your seat the entire time. It’s so neat that we weave true events within here. The characters are very well written, the story keeps you engaged and the writing is just wonderful. I have nothing negative to say obviously because I am OBSESSED with Ihli’s writing style. If you enjoy fast paced thrillers, true crime, a little historical in there as well…this will be for you! Fabulous.
𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: Thriller, True Crime, Historical
I enjoy Noelle’s stories. This one as interesting as it was, was not really one of my favourites. I’m not a historical fiction fan. This one does really tug on your heart strings. You really feel for the women who loose so much of themselves in this.
If you are a historical fiction fan and want to learn more about the Mormon faith and the massacre that took place. Then this is definitely a book for you.
I have given this 3 stars as appreciate the research etc gone into the book but content advice at the beginning meant I decided the book is not for me,apologies
NONE LEFT TO TELL was a departure from
this author’s previous books, diving back in time to tell a tragic and little known historical tale. There were many positives to this book - a well written tale with rich character development that was still easy to digest despite some heavy topica. However, there were also some detractors - the sheer length and breadth of this was at times confusing and at times just too much information. I understand the author’s desire to represent this topic well but think the story could have been much tighter with a few additional edits.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for the opportunity to read and review NONE LEFT TO TELL.
This poignant and harrowing novel, based on the tragic Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857, unfolds through the eyes of three women—Katrina, Lucy, and Sally. We hear of a perilous journey out west from Arkansas to California.
Though it offers thrills for the adventurous reader, this story transcends the genre, resonating deeply with a broader audience. It’s an unsettling experience, as the brutal events of the massacre unfold with heart-wrenching detail. It was a chapter in history I was unfamiliar with, yet now feel compelled to explore further. The author’s dedication to honoring the victims of this dark chapter in history is evident throughout.
Despite it taking some time to familiarize myself with the various characters, each time I put the book down, I found myself eager to return to the story and reconnect with them. It’s a story that lingers long after the final chapter.
Thank you Netgalley for this advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Two words; JAW DROPPING. While this isn't a typical thriller that leaves you checking over your shoulder or under your bed, it's more historical fiction with some thriller aspects, but it is a very important story based on true events which brings all the more importance to it. I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre and Noelle W Ihli told this story of true events in a way that left me picking my jaw up off floor. This read is extremely horrifying and heartbreaking at the same time, what these people endured is completely unbelievable. This book will bring you on a roller coaster of emotions and I highly recommend everyone to get it when it's released.
Okay this was equal parts thrilling and suspenseful. I couldn't stop turning the pages. The characters were interesting and I like that the author didn't get overly descriptive. The pacing was good and kept going. I was really enjoying it..
This book is not like any other Noelle West Ihli book. After reading the content advisory, I did not end up reading the book. I knew it was going to be too dark and disturbing for me. That said, I do appreciate the authors deep dive into actual historical events and her authenticity. Sometimes the horror of real life can be the most terrifying and heart wrenching.
