This wasn't a bad story but it was labeled as something it wasn't. Even the blurb was misleading. I ended up not being the actual story's target audience.

This didn’t work out for me. It writing was too clunky with predictable plot points, and I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. Even for high stakes moments I felt indifferent. If you read a lot of thriller mysteries, this may come across as contrived and too boring, but if you’re newer to the genre and don’t mind the writing style and withholding tactics, you may find this intriguing and a good starting point!

• The main character’s inner monologue was repetitive and over-explainy. In that way where it’s obvious to the reader when a hint drops what could be happening, and then we have to read the main character go on and on about it in the wrong direction. So even in tense moments, I was eye-rolling and knocked out of the story.
• Elements of the story seemed like an afterthought thrown in for convenience. It felt like the main character was wishy washy and weak when it was convenient for the plot, then suddenly assertive and determined when that persona was no longer convenient.
• Frustrating, clunky writing style. In my mind’s eye this was playing out like bad acting the way the dialogue was written. ~Character says something.~ ~Long pause.~ ~Character checks script, realizes they are supposed to be getting angry, so screams the next line.~
• Overusing the heavily hinting withholding trope for suspense. The main character spends page after page agonizing over mundane details, and then for significant past events gives only vague hints and no depth.
• The kid was used as a plot device to stall progress way too much. Like constantly interrupting or doing annoying things every time the main character was having an important conversation, or we were about to get a reveal.

I believe this title was published in 2020. I found the story to be engaging but the burb lead me to expect something different. It took quite a while to get going. I did gueese the twist and found it very enjoyable once I got to about 50%. The premise was good the character arc were good some events seemed too convenient and some over the top. And I felt it could have done with more input from the vllians. It was a topical story that deal with difficult issues including rape. I would recommended this to anyone who likes a good mystery and is prepared to stick with it for quite a while before any action. It felt the pacing was off and the ending worth it but it felt really long. Still left me feeling the rnding was worth my time. Thanks netgallery and publisher and author.

What an intriguing start this story has! From the very beginning, you’re thrown into a world where things aren’t as they seem, and something sinister lurks beneath the surface. This clever plot hook immediately draws you in, and the suspense builds steadily, leaving you on the edge of your seat until the shocking revelation finally comes to light. Then you’re sitting there feeling like your head is spinning.

I loved how it started with a bang and had so many twists and turns throughout. It was a tad predictable, how yhe MC didn't see what was going on was beyond me since it couldnt have more obvious but some people are a bit simple so fair enough. I loved that there were some massive twists that I didn't see coming and just how absolutely nothing was as it seemed. A really captivating thriller

Let me start by saying Laurie wasn’t my favorite MFC. I spent a good portion of the book rolling my eyes at her. She comes off as weak and unwilling to stand up for herself and her child. Suffering from OCD and in a bad situation aside, a lot of what she allowed Marissa to do was very unbelievable, and she cast her daughter aside more often than not. Gretchen needs a mother of the year award for raising two kids that aren’t hers. The plot of the book was solid, even if the characters weren’t. It was suspenseful and fairly predictable in that, this book should be a Lifetime movie kind of way, but hints at some Cruel Intentions meets Flowers In The Attic vibes between Teddy and Marissa that honestly makes me want more of their back story. I do hope Gretchen, Joseph and Morgan find all the happiness in Europe, they deserve it.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and every one is a lie in this gripping psychological suspense thriller. Laurie Miller is left in utter shock when her husband vanishes without a trace, leaving her with a stack of bills she can’t pay. As the lonely days stretch into weeks with no reappearance or body resurfacing, the stay-at-home mom accepts a photography job from a former sorority sister, and current Instagram sensation, and returns to her Milwaukee roots, and the trauma she thought she’d escaped!! Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, a great who done it and a few twists and turns. The story was interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

This modern mystery is a really good read.

telling the story of laurie and how her life changes considerably after her husband leaves her and their child.

Trying to start again Laurie hooks up with an old school friend and what happens next is a drama filled read with secrets, accusations and heartache.

This is a well written novel and I loved the influencer vibe. It really does show that todays world where everyone can have instant success can change your life in an instant and not always for the better..

The Photographer tells the story of Laurie, whose husband leaves her and her daughter all of a sudden. As a result of the trauma, she develops OCD. Life seems to get better when a former sorority sister who's now a famous Instagram influencer offers her a job as her photographer. Soon enough, Laurie's daughter 'goes viral' but the unwanted attention and bizarre world of influencing mean Laurie's life is getting too complicated. Laurie wakes up one day to the worst news a mother could be given: her daughter has gone missing. Is it a coincidence?

Wow what a read!!

This book was a rollercoaster, it really did have it all. I really enjoyed the peek at the Inluecing world. Those who are curious may be shocked when reading Marissa's antics, but as someone who once considered working in social media and dabbled in the industry, I can honestly say that Jo Crow did a fantastic job describing how that world works.

The ending was great and satisfying. I won't say much more to avoid spoiling the book.
