Anders gets five stars for creating such likable characters, making them think and mature to meet larger-than-life challenges, and for starting what will be a series of books that kids and adults will love to escape into and explore.

This book was just really fun. I can see the appeal for kids who feel out of place in their own lives, misfits by physicality or temperament. It's a super quick read and might be good for a more reluctant reader. Couple that with the fast pacing, this is a start to a series that should have broad appeal.
