This book is a courageous work of heart, exuding empathy and deep introspection. It’s a compelling read for anyone navigating a chronic illness or dealing with generational silence within their family. The author poses thought-provoking questions and I appreciate the way she encouraged readers to reflect on long-standing family patterns. I especially admired the way she engaged her relatives—her questions were probing yet handled with tact and compassion.
That said, I personally tend to shy away from autobiographies, and this book read more like one than I expected. The balance felt skewed, with about 80% of the content focused on the author's personal story and only 20% on self-help or psychoeducation. Given its description as a guide, I had anticipated a more even split. Additionally, I found the organization somewhat disjointed—the book jumped between topics without clear transitions, making it difficult to follow at times. A more structured approach, with distinct sections or chapters dedicated to different themes, could have improved the overall flow.
Despite these structural challenges, the book was insightful and heartfelt. I haven't personally come across a book covering this topic so I found it to be an interesting read.

This book was not quite what I expected or was looking for -- I am dealing with secrets on the parental level, one parent who doesn't want to talk about the past and the other who is deceased and can't communicate any more. I would be interested in how others have dealt with similar situations. While I didn't quite get that, I did learn a lot. This book addresses multiple generations of silence and especially of societal patterns causing trauma for entire groups of people. It is packed with valuable information, stories, and advice and encouragement for healing. The author is a powerhouse and so is her mom! Thanks for the opportunity to review an inspiring read.
