I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fascinating bit of history about he exploration the north pole and the sad harrowing journey of the USS Jeaneatte. I had never heard this story and it was so interesting. It takes you on a journey from the beginning with the initial thoughts and people behind this incredible journey all they way to its conclusion (which I will not share here in case you have not read the book). Reading is taking me much longer right now with two small children at home demanding all of my attention, so it took me much longer to get through this book than it would have in the past, but I would say that normally this would have taken me a bit longer than average but not more than a few weeks. This book is well worth a read if you are interested in history, the North Pole, or epic journeys and stories of the men who braved this new land.

When I got about halfway through I could not put the book down and I could not wait to find out what all happened on the journey and what the fate of the expedition was. I cannot imagine going on such a long journey away from my home and family, especially with so many unknowns and virtually no method of communication. The sacrifices that have been made for discovery and science are incredible and are stories that should be told and remembered. I highly recommend this well written novel about a lesser known piece of history.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
