Setting this book in 1947 at the time of India and Pakistan's partition, makes this even more eventful. Well developed characters create a story of a young girl who struggles with the traditions she faces in a society where women have little power.

While I really liked the subject matter, this book was a bit too dense for me to finish in one-go. I had to put it down several times (then promptly forgot I was in the middle of it), but I did enjoy the writing itself -- once I was able to read it continuously.
