Pet detectives! We have a cat and a dog who solves crimes. In this story, they are solving the crime of the missing grilled cheese sandwiches. They question the suspects and use the clues from the crime scene to determine who did it. This was a cute, goofy read that will keep young readers guessing. As both a mystery fan and dog person, I was drawn to this one by the whimsical cover showing the two Petectives, Purrlock and Marlowe. Purrlock is a hoot, seemingly equal parts obsessed with supposed nemesis Meowierty and food. The illustrations are fun and help share some of the backstory, including Purrlock’s role on the football team. Marlowe sorts it all out while reminding Purrlock that his obsession with Meowierty isn’t quite what he remembers. Readers will have fun following this pair around.

That was a short children graphic about a cat and a dog solving mystery .
It is for children thus nothing really happened in it .
No need to think while reading just a good palet cleanser .

Who could resist a series called Petectives? Not me!

In this debut book, Marlowe the dog and Purrlock (the eponymous Petectives) investigate the theft of the sandwiches from the annual Grilled Cheese Festival. Author Jason Platt helpfully provides the clues that allow observant young readers a chance to solve the case themselves. All this and a history of the detective novel, too! The humorous dialogue and the amazing cartooning make this graphic novel a five-star read for young and old alike. I cannot wait for the next entry in the series!

In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley and Papercutz in exchange for an honest review.

A delightful start to this new series for younger elementary level readers. We meet two friends, Purrlock and Marlow, who solve mysteries together. Each has a unique personality that comes through clearly. In this case, all of the grilled cheese sandwiches have been stolen from the festival. It's up to the Petectives to figure out who took them and why. Purrlock immediately blames Meowiearty (love the Sherlock Holmes connection) so isn't interested in looking at the clues. Marlowe observes the clues and works with Purrlock to actually solve the case. They interview their other two suspects and connect them to the facts. Readers get the opportunity to solve the case in real time and are offered the chance to reread the clues section before the culprit is revealed.
The text is easy to follow and full of humor to hold mid-elementary readers. Looking forward to more cases.

A wonderful transitional graphic novel. I love all the allusions to Sherlock Holmes, as it adds to the fun. The writing is clear with a good amount of humor. The mystery is set out in a way that allows the reader to figure out who the culprit is along the way, yet one of the characters breaks the 4th wall before the big reveal and suggests looking back at the pages with the clues on them to help figure it out. It even states the pages to turn back too. This little inclusion is absolutely wonderful and encourages reading comprehension as well as teaching kids that it is okay to go back and read parts again. Overall, this is a fun little mystery book and I look forward to more books in this series!

ARC Copy...That was funny and nutshell to read through. I am predicting the target audience-demography would the "Investegators" fans and animal lovers.

This was cute and silly and funny. A good book for kids. Just a cute little mystery about someone stealing grilled cheese sandwiches. I figured out the mystery easily but I’m an adult. I’m sure I would’ve liked this even more when I was a little kid.

A cute children's reimagining of "Sherlock Holmes" in graphic novel format. Sherlock and Watson are a cat and dog detective team called "Purlock and Marlowe" and they are on the case of the missing grilled cheese. The graphic novel is illustrated very cartoony with bright colors which kids are sure to love! This is definitely meant for fairly young readers as it gives a lot of context clues and has the most obvious plot-probably could be used by a teacher to check if a student is comprehending what they read. I did find the culprit of the crime to be a little TOO obvious, but for a young reader this would be fine. It was also silly that one of the petectives kept pointing to a suspect who obviously was not the culprit just because he didn't like him. I'm guessing kids will find that hilarious.

Overall I'd highly recommend this for young readers around 7-8 years old.

Thank you to NetGalley and Papercutz for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review.
