Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc!
Sarah Hogle is a hit or miss author for me and this was a miss. I just deeply mistrusted and didn’t like the mmc and had trouble caring about the chemistry for our main characters. The magic system was also not well formed.
2.75/5 - I really wanted to love this. I read Old Flames and New Fortunes and loved it. So when I saw this book on NetGalley, I immediately applied and was ecstatic to be approved for the ARC.
I dont know what it is but the magic is harder to follow and feels a bit heavy and discombobulated compared to the first book. I find myself having to reread previous pages to understand what's happening. I love Zelda as the FMC. Loved going through her POV and her rediscovering her gifts. I found it really hard to like the MMC Morgan. When he blurted out that all he wanted was to get magic like Alex (first book MMC) did, I just couldnt trust him anymore. 90% in and I still was not sure of his intentions. His confession was cute though and fit him as a person. I love all the side characters - the sisters, Aisling, even Trevor. I also loved the paranimals too!
Overall, it didnt feel like a romance book to me. I didnt feel Zelda and Morgan's chemistry so it was hard to care about them getting together. I finished the book but I struggled and was very close to DNFing it.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for this review.
I was so excited when I got the arc I literally love this author but the book just wasn’t it for me. The magical elements were intriguing but Morgan was weird. I’m disappointed the book wasn’t what I waited for but I’m a fan of Sarah Hogle and can’t wait for her next release.
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for this ARC.
I found myself completely immersed in this delightful tale, where the real magic lies not just in the fantastical creatures they uncover, but in the blossoming connection between Zelda and Morgan. This book left me with a warm sense of joy and a newfound appreciation for the enchantment that can be found in the everyday. I can’t wait for more from this talented author.
Zelda’s journey from a hardened non-believer to someone forced to face the magic in her life is beautifully written, and Morgan’s easy charm is irresistible. Their banter crackles with energy, making their slow-burn romance all the more delicious. The magical world is quirky and original, giving the story a whimsical flair while maintaining an emotional depth. Overall, a heartwarming, steamy adventure that keeps you hooked from start to finish!
Nothing i haven't read before, but this was still a cute, cozy read that acts better as a palate cleanser.
Thankyou netgalley and Sarah Hogle for the arc. All opinions are my own!
This is very kooky (a compliment!). The storytelling is charming and it is clear the author loves her characters and the world of Moonville she created.
Ultimately, I found it hard to follow the plot - it was confusing, chaotic, and Morgan was not a sympathetic character. I do not feel he is a good enough match for Zelda (same with Alex not being good enough for Romina!). I think readers who loved Old Flames and New Fortunes and fans of whimsical, magical romances will enjoy this
Thank you to Putnam and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a copy.
Great book, Loved reading this just in time for spooky season. Cute story and fast read.
Big fan of the cover as well
I know Sarah Hogle can write an amazing love interest, so whatever possessed her to write the most creepy, godawful men in this series, I will never understand. Once is a fluke, but twice? I'm very confused and disappointed. It's safe to say I didn't enjoy this book, because Morgan was a major creep and I didn't trust him.
The Folklore of Forever is a beautifully written whirlwind of magic, mischief, and romance. It’s full of whimsy, laughter, and the delightfully weird. It’s one of the few books that I’ve read with a main character whose neurodivergence is relatable, well written, and not implied to be something that is seen as a character flaw and needs to be fixed. This book will have you giggling and rooting for these lovable characters from start to finish.
This book was magical. The side characters were fantastic but most importantly I felt so hard for the fmc. She's anxious and awkward and obsessed with books. The banter between the two main characters had me giggling and kicking my feet. There's a super interesting magic system and I can't wait to find out more about it in future books. The world was so well built, and I loved the CF shout out. Such an easy read, I accidentally read it all night and forgot to sleep.
I love You Deserve Each Other and just jumped when I saw Sarah Hogle’s name on here!! I should’ve read the description more. I did not realize this was a second book in a series and I didn’t realize how magical the series was. The first 3 chapters felt so confusing to me and I just can’t get into this magical world. Of course I still love this author and will try any other books she releases! Just not for me.
