Thanks to Netgalley & PENGUIN GROUP- Putnam for the E-ARC! This was a beautiful story. Loved the characters so much! Very fast-paced too. Will definitely read more from this author.
What if I never get over you brings you on this beautiful, heart wrenching journey as you follow along Ellie and Ash. I loved seeing these characters develop and go through life. I couldn’t put this book down. I needed to know what was going to happen. I really liked that you get to see these characters grow up and experience all the big events life has thrown at them. From friendship to love to grief, you see how they overcome so many obstacles through a long period of time. I highly recommend reading this book. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and not be able to put the book down.
ARC REVIEW
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I let it sit on my kindle for entirely too long - I wish I had picked it up the second they sent it to me because it was so good. This book had me in my feels from the very beginning. It’s one of those books that you can just feel the bad coming and you’re waiting on edge. I really liked the characters - even the “villain” characters were well done and I despised them. There were a few times I found the main characters a little bit annoying and whiny which is why I’m giving 4 stars and not 5, but overall I really liked them and their love story was great. Paige Toon is quickly turning into an insta-read for me.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves romance. It begins with Ellie and Ash meeting during their interrailing trip, where we are swept away to Lisbon and witness their whirlwind days in the sun. Their chemistry is undeniable, with sparks flying between them.
Six years later, they meet again at a Manor House in Wales, where Ellie is pursuing her dream job. However, life has changed for both of them, and they must figure out how to navigate their new realities. Ash is such a lovable character, and I appreciated seeing his struggles with grief and the tension between two different parts of his life.
The story also delves into workplace dynamics, the bonds of a small community, loss, and dysfunctional families. I loved the charming side characters who live and work together, adding a fun touch to the story. At the same time, I felt Ellie’s struggles with loneliness—she often holds back, and I wished she had deeper female friendships to lean on.
The ending left me feeling warm and satisfied. While I could predict most of the twists—they were carefully seeded throughout the book—I didn’t find this to be a drawback. Paige’s writing transports you to beautiful locations, tugs at your emotions, and immerses you in a heartfelt journey. I devoured this story in just two days and could have easily read more.
This book wrecked me and put me back together in the best way possible. If you need me, I’ll be devouring the rest of Paige’s backlist while cackling and happily sobbing my way through each one🥲
Paige Toon has done it again with "What If I Never Get Over You." This book is beautifully written, showcasing her signature style that makes you feel every emotion the characters experience. The protagonist's journey from a teenager filled with angst to a young adult is portrayed with depth and authenticity that you can't help but be drawn into her world.
The storyline is a perfect blend of romance, drama, and surprise, keeping you hooked from start to finish. The character development is nicely done, and you can truly feel that you grow with the character as the story progresses. The descriptions of the scenery and settings are vivid and immersive, adding an extra layer of richness to the narrative.
Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a well-crafted romantic drama with a satisfying conclusion.
4.5 stars - you can NOT go wrong with Paige Toon! There is something about her novels that sucks you right in and you start flipping pages faster and faster until it's late into the night because you just HAVE TO know how it ends. Yep, this one is another just like that.
Ellie and Ash meet in Lisbon while both are interrailing in Europe and escaping for a little while from the future of their lives (as planned by both their parents!). They have an instant connection and plan to meet in a week's time in Madrid. Ash doesn't show and the Ellie is devastated. Will they ever see each other again . . . they don't even know their last names.
The hope and longing in this book go on and on - best to go into this book not knowing too much about it as I always feel the descriptions give too much away about the book. If you want a tug at your heart, cannot put down, angst, hope, parents are horrible book - this is the one for you.
Thank you to NetGalley, Paige Toon (for all of her great books) and Penguin Group for a wonderful book in exchange for my opinion.
The beginning of this book pulled me in SO fast! I couldn't put it down.. I wish I could say that feeling stayed with me, but even with the dull moments, this was a sweet love story, with some unexpected turns.
Ellie and Ash meet while traveling and fall head over heels almost instantly. Their connection feels genuine, and I found myself instantly rooting for them. After returning to their normal lives, Ellie and Ash lose track of each other. Years later they are reconnected under much different circumstances, and with many life events having passed.
I felt the reasons the two were unable to be together were too flimsy and frustrating. They get there eventually, but it's a long and winding path.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a sweeping, emotional romance that lingers long after the final page. Ellie and Ash’s connection is instant and electric, but their journey is anything but simple. From their fleeting, magical days in Lisbon to the aching years of separation, it masterfully captures the bittersweetness of love lost and found.
Set against lush European backdrops and a stately estate in Wales, the story brims with longing, second chances, and impossible choices. Ellie’s growth and resilience, paired with Ash’s magnetic presence, make for a love story as tender as it is tumultuous.
This book is perfect for fans of slow-burn romance with a touch of drama. It’s a reminder that love, no matter how complicated, is always worth fighting for.
Thanks to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam | G.P. Putnam's Sons for the opportunity to receive the ARC.
The premises of this book was good but at time I felt like it was to cheesy of a book and a bit immature wasn’t for me
Thanks NetGalley for the arc copy
Paige Toon’s writing has a way of getting you to lose track of time. I feel like she pulls you directly into the story and next thing you know, hours have passed. I really enjoyed the possibility that three days spend adventuring together can turn into a once in a lifetime love. Anything Paige Toon writes, I’ll be reading.
What If I Never get Over You portrays an insta-love connection gone wrong due to grief, loss and societal pressures and how that love, and the main characters, grow over the course of years in an effort to reconnect. Both main characters felt well developed and dimensional and the miscommunications in the story felt purposeful and genuine. This book has absolutely turned me on to other Paige Toon novels which feel like the perfect thing to binge on a seaside or cabin vacation as they are steamy not spicy
In true Paige Toon-fashion, I've had yet another one of her novels deliver a book equivalent to an uppercut straight to the gut. 🥲 This is my third(?) novel of hers and I really enjoyed this one. I've always been particular about the second chance trope. Many elements of this trope can make or break a novel for me. My only real critique: I did feel like the mentioning of her best friend Stella for so much of the first half of the book, only for it be almost disregarded in the end was an interesting choice.. The main characters' joint trauma (loss of a best friend and relationship w/ their parents) seemed like a big driving force of their connection, despite the many years apart. I wish I had a bit more. As one of Toon's avid American readers, I've found her books fun to read and escape to. It's always difficult to want to put them down once I get started, and "What If I Never Get Over you" was no exception.
I happen to think most, if not all of her novels have the potential to be great film adaptations. I also think a duet narration for the audiobook would really elevate the experience. A good Welsh/Posh accent for Ash would. be 🔥
Thank you G.P Putnam's for the opportunity to read this one early!! ❤️
I am usually a fan of Toon’s but this one just didn’t work for me. Instead of becoming emotionally invested I grew annoyed with the wishy- washy, immature female protagonist and how many things that seemed thrown in to tug at my heart strings (awful parents, tragic losses of best friends, childhood trauma etc) felt more like paint by numbers attempts at character development. Nothing felt true to me and I quickly stopped caring.. Will still look forward to what Toon writes next but this is a book I would skip.
Ellie and Ash’s story is truly a roller coaster. There were so many romantic, sweet, loving moments. And then BAM plot twist after plot twist. Soooo many moments where my jaw was unhinged… Paige Toon knows how to keep you needing more! I think both characters had much needed growth, which was relieving to see. At some parts, I was like what are you doing????? But that’s given to fuel the story. Towards the end it seemed a tad rushed, but overall this was such a great book!
The book is split into 3 parts. They have a meet cute while interrailing in Europe ✨ the timeline jumps six years then another two. Some other tropes include hidden identity, forbidden love, and third act breakup
I absolutely LOVE Paige and her writing style. This story was so sweet, but also broke my heart! I loved the FMC and MMC's Love story.
I was so excited to read this story as I have read all of Paige’s books but it didn't pull me in like her other stories. I found some trouble connecting with each of the characters and their crappy families
Such a sweet story. Young love full of dreams, then adult love full of adulting. What I really liked about this book is that each of these characters needed to grow on their own before they could come back together. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
3.75 stars
The fact that Ellie and Ash had only 3 days together and loved each other and then never saw each other again for 6 years and then rekindled their loved? It kind of broke me. This story is filled with loss of best friends, broken relationships with parents, and a love that wants to be expressed freely but can't. Ellie and Ash do have a lot of miscommunication which did get a little annoying. Some of the book did seem to just drag on for a while and I did get bored. Other than that, this was a gripping book, that tugged on my heartstrings and played with it the whole way through.
This book was lovely - emotional, filled with all the feels, and very relatable. A great, easy read that makes you feel like you're reading a real life story. Perfect for a cozy read, characters that you're able to connect with, and even twisty and turny so you never get bored.
