oh my GOSH these arcs are saving my life.

this was SO GOOD!! i can’t even explain it but something about this book was just so all consuming.
i felt the moment when it shifted and i knew this would be a great one.

eleanor meets ash in portugal when they are both solo interrailing & they spend a few days together and click instantly. they make memories & make plans - something neither of them were expecting. when ash doesn’t show up at their designated meeting spot, eleanor loses hope of what ever their potential future if and tries to move on, for 6 years.

they meet again, as ellie is the gardener of ash’s royal esteemed family (something he forgot to mention). they find each other again and of course, there’s the third act breakup!

watching these two fall in and out of love and have their first, second and THIRD chance romance absolutely reeled me in and kept me on my toes.

i really loved this. i loved their relationship & how they bonded over their grief. i loved how the world keep ripping them apart then throwing them back together.

so so good. thank you netgalley & putnam books for this earc

I love nothing more than a second chance romance and I’m a huge Paige Toon fan— she is a must read author for me. The beginning completely hooked me— I loved Ellie and Ash’s time in Lisbon. I also really enjoyed the ending. However, I felt like the pacing was off in the middle 40%. I felt like there wasn’t enough tension, or character development and both MC’s made a lot of ridiculous decisions, and I wasn’t excited to pick it up. This wasn’t my favorite of hers, but she’s still a must-read author for me!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Loved this one! Not usually a fan on insta-love but I feel as if Paige Toon did it well in a way that it wasn't cringe.

The "right place wrong time" trope isn't my favorite as it frustates me (Ellie, get it together, girl!) but parts three and four SO made up for it!

I do wish Stella was talked about more later in the book as her death was such a heavy theme in part one (Taran was very well-done).

Overall, would definitely recommend!!

I LOVE Paige Toon's books.but this was a dud for me. I DNF'd it at like 30%. I didn't like the characters and it just fell flat.

Last year I read my first Paige Toon book and really loved the way she brought together time, angst, loss, and second chances. I still have to read more of her books. But when I was offered her newest/about to be released What If I Never Get Over You I knew I would take it. This story was going to have large shoes to fill, but I had a feeling Toon would win me over.

Ellie and Ash meet in Portugal while inter-railing. They have a whirlwind 3 days together where they get to know one another as fellow travelers and experience Portugal like their friends would have wanted. Both of these characters had experienced loss in the past, so it seemed like it might've been fate that brought them together so they could have someone to share everything with. On their last day in Portugal, they realize there is something special between them, but they both have things to take care of so they plan to meet in Madrid a week later. But if you know Toon (or not), she couldn't make it that easy.

OMG! I loved these two and their brief time they had together. No matter how long it was, you could feel the emotions between them and see how similar they looked at life. It reminded me of my days traveling around Europe and making connections with people that you may or may not see again. But Ellie and Ash were on a whole other level. That's why it was hard to experience what came next.
Emotionally, the middle of the book was difficult for me. I liked the parts where these characters went after what they wanted and what they saw for a future, but I also hated the time apart, the characters' backgrounds and their attachment to family and those that they loved. I know this isn't making a lot of sense, but I'm trying to keep this spoiler free because all these little things ultimately add up to their actions they feel they have to take.

'Heartbreak is on the horizon and I'm catapulting toward it.'

WIth all that said, I loved the beginning and I loved the ending. It was the middle part that kind of has me going back and forth. But that's the angst that was brought to the forefront and I give Toon credit for that. I just felt there was a little something missing or maybe it was that the time they did spend together bugged me. Not sure. I really wish I had more information about the time they spent apart AND that Ellie was more forward about her family issues with Ash and with us as the audience. I wanted to shake these two and get them to realize what was going on. But if I did, I wouldn't have gotten the ending that was so perfect for them.

Overall, this was a good story, but didn't beat Seven Summers for me. Paige Toon created some amazing characters that I fell in love with and allowed me to feel the locations these characters inhabited. She definitely pulls at your heartstrings and makes the characters WORK for their HEA, but it still felt like a little magic was missing. I still enjoyed it and can't wait to see what is on the horizon.

Thank you to G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Netgalley for a gifted advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

I put off reading this book as long as possible because I knew that if I read another Paige Toon book, I’d be in a reading slump. Well, I loved this book from the very first chapter; the authors writing sucks me in every time. I felt so anxious reading the last 30% (iykyk) and had to stop reading for a little bit. This book is beautiful, heartbreaking, and real. And, I learned a little about planets in the process ◡̈

Paige Toon quickly became a must read author for me when I read Seven Summers. I enjoy the way she writes very emotional romances. What If I Never Get Over You started off the same way for me. I was invested in Ellie and Ash but, by Part 3 Paige Toon had lost me a bit. This book has themes of love, loss and family drama but, I think it might be a bit too long and drawn out this time. I still enjoyed the story but rated it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Thank you Net Galley, Paige Toon, Penguin Putnam Group for the opportunity to preview this novel and the opinions shared are my own.
What If I Never Get Over You is expected to be released April 15, 2025 just in time for your spring/summer reading!

Paige Toon has become one of my favorite authors over the last few years. She knows how to write an emotional romance that makes you feel every emotion and I love her twists in the story. I have a few left from her backlist to read but feel I have a good grasp on her writing and storylines.

That being said, coming off Seven Summers (arguably her best book to date in my opinion) this one had huge expectations to live up to. I absolutely loved part 1 and 2 and felt like the angst and romance was written so incredibly well. While I didn’t understand every reason Ellie had for keeping them a secret, it did make for a forbidden type of feel and I loved that. Part 3 is what, inevitably, made this go down to a 4 star for me. It felt like a different book with almost different characters. If it had ended in a way that was more seamless, I could have rated it 5.

Ellie and Ash were so cute together and I love that they met each other in such an unconventional way while doing something out of both of their comfort zones. Ash pulled Ellie out of her comfort zone and encouraged her to not live for her parents and that inevitably shaped how she lived her life! I love the celebrity/royal romance trope and I think it was portrayed as accurately as you can imagine with all the external pressures these people feel. We know Ash didn’t feel comfortable at his house living this lavish life but the Ash of part 3 seemed like he went too far in the other direction. Living a modern lifestyle would have made this more seamless, instead of a total recluse.

I still love Toon’s books and will always recommend them to people! Excited to see what she brings us next. This one just wasn’t my favorite - although Seven Summers is going to be hard to beat!

3.5 stars rounded up. This one started out really strong for me and I was excited to see where Ellie and Ash's story went. By the second half of the book, I became less invested. It was frustrating to watch Ash constantly put another women ahead of Ellie and many of Ellie's actions were immature. I also had a hard time caring about their love story as they only seemed to have brief moments together -- it seemed more of an obsession vs. a true romance. Overall, the writing was good and I kept coming back to the book.

Seven Summers by Paige Toon is her best work to date, so I came in knowing that What If I Never Got Over You had some big shoes to fill. I can always count on Toon for a completely immersive and bingeworthy romance and this delivered!

In this book we follow a grieving Ellie as she interrails across Europe. She meets a fellow traveler named Ash and they have an amazing 3 days together, promising to meet up in Madrid so they can continue traveling together. Because agreeing to meet abroad always seems to work out, right? Part One gave me vibes of Before Sunrise and I was so here for it. While the first part was ultimately my favorite, the story took a lot of wild twists and turns to really tug at the heartstrings.

If you love high drama romance, second chance, and right person wrong time, then I totally recommend!

I loved the beginning of this book, it started off really strong. I completely understood the grief each of the characters were feeling about their families and the passing of loved ones. The second half of the book is what really ruined it for me. Very immature behavior from both Ash & Ellie, but especially Ellie. She was super frustrating and while I was happy she finally put herself first career wise, and with her parents. Every other aspect of her life was not the same. Overall, this was just okay. I would recommend if you're a fan of Paige Toon (this was my first read by her, and I still plan to read her backlog.) Loved that this was also very minimal in the spicy scenes part as well.

Book Review: What If I Never Get Over You
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Author: Paige Toon
Publisher: G. P. Putnam‘s Sons @putnambooks @penguinbooks
Thank you to @netgalley for this ARC

What If I Never Get Over You? is a beautifully written, heartwarming romance about fate, second chances, and the enduring pull of love.

Ellie and Ash share an intense three-day connection while interrailing in Europe, a whirlwind romance that leaves them irrevocably changed. Their chemistry is undeniable—passionate, longing, and natural. But when Ellie arrives late to their planned reunion in Madrid, Ash is gone, leaving their love story unfinished.

Six years later, Ellie is building a quiet life as a gardener at a grand estate in Wales—until Ash reappears, forcing them to confront their past and lingering feelings. Their connection reignites instantly, every glance and touch charged with all they’ve lost and still want. Their love is raw and consuming, filled with missed chances and the hope that fate might finally be on their side.

Paige Toon masterfully brings the settings to life, from sun-soaked Lisbon to the lush landscapes of Wales. The novel explores grief, family dysfunction, and self-discovery, adding depth beyond the romance. Ash’s emotional struggles and Ellie’s loneliness make them feel real and relatable, though a stronger female friendship for Ellie would have been welcome.

The pacing is well-balanced, keeping the emotional stakes high. While the twists are somewhat predictable, they don’t lessen the novel’s charm. The supporting cast enhances the found family theme, though their presence fades later on.

Overall, What If I Never Get Over You? is a poignant, immersive romance about love, loss, and timing. Perfect for readers who enjoy emotional depth and a love story that lingers.

Ellie and Ash are both interrailing solo through Europe. They meet each other in Portugal and end up spending three amazing days together. They both feel this instant connection with one another. So they make a promise to meet up again in Spain in one week. However, Ash never shows up and it breaks Ellie’s heart. She had no way to contact him to find out what happened, so she spends the next few years wondering ‘what if’.

Six years later, Ellie finally starts to move on from him. She finds a gardening job that she loves, and she finally feels better about her life. Ash, of course, now unexpectedly appears back in her life.

This book will put you on an emotional rollercoaster. Whenever you think they may end up together again, something always happens. I loved all the characters, including the other gardeners. This story is a perfect second chance romance that will stick with you for a while.

When main characters Ellie and Ash met while backpacking in Lisbon, they had an instant connection. With just three days together, they had to make the most of it. Once they parted ways, they made plans to meet up again in Madrid in a few weeks.

Much to Ellie’s dismay, Ash wasn’t in Madrid at the time they planned and she was stood up. Already broken and lonely, Ellie did what she needed to do and moved on. Six years later, she became a gardener at none other than Ash’s parent’s house (unbeknownst to her).

Ellie and Ash were both shocked to see each other years later but could they rekindle what they had for those three days in Lisbon after all the heartbreak and trauma? Not to mention, Ash lowkey had a girlfriend because he had given up on his hopes of ever seeing Ellie again. In his mind, she was the one who got away.

This story was addictive and the characters were so charming. Both having come from difficult lives and gone through traumatic experiences, they were broken but together, they made so much sense. They were actual soulmates and proof that fate will bring people together if it’s meant to be.

What if I Never Get Over You tells the story of Ellie who meets Ash while backpacking in Europe. The two spend a few magical days together and make a plan to meet again a week later. Circumstances keep them both from arriving at the designated meetup and they lose touch - forever. Or, maybe not forever after all, when Ellie chases her dream career, Ash makes an unexpected appearance. Will they be able to recreate the connection they felt under their new circumstances? As a longtime Paige Toon fan, I enjoyed the story of Ellie and Ash and look forward to her next book!

This book was so stinking cute. The One Day/Bridgerton comparison drew me in, but I didn’t so much catch Bridgerton vibes. The MMC has a title (he doesn’t want) but that’s where the comparison point stopped for me. Ash and Ellie meet in Spain - each after experiencing loss of a close friend. They make plans to meet up in the future but miss each other, leading to devastation for both. They meet again in an unexpected way when Ellie goes to work for his family, discovering who Ash is. Paige Toon is a beautiful storyteller and on auto read for me.

This book started out really strong and with such a beautiful beginning to Ash and Ellie’s love story, but it fell off a bit for me as the book went on. I didn’t love how some of the time passing was written as it felt very choppy and not well fleshed out, and a lot of their arguments felt a bit immature. I wished that Ellie would find other strong relationships to lean on as well. Overall this story ended up with a sweet ending but it was not my favorite romance ever.
