A very competent and very quick read about mistakes – how we have to accept them in ourselves, and move on. Anything else would be another mistake – including forgetting the need to try harder next time. We see a lot of DC characters in action, from Aquaman to Wonder Woman, and from Green Lantern needing to pick up the pieces on a giant robot that went wrong to Robin just forgetting some gear, they all have a regular child counterpart, finding the same goof in their life and reacting to it the same way, as an example to the rest of us. It's a very gentle way to show us that nobody came perfect out of the box, and what to do when we prove that to ourselves. I do think it missed an opportunity in not talking more about how we deal with mistakes in others, but perhaps that's more forgiveness and demanding a whole different book all itself. As it is this one is definitely a strong four stars.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.
An uplifting, positive look at mistakes and how to work through them when they happen. I enjoyed the different scenarios and characters.
The activities, step by step guide to handling mistakes were good additions to help support what was shown in the book. I truly adored the talk time and the conversation prompts.

When I was a kid, I dreaded making mistakes and did my best to be perfect. However, I was taught the importance of admitting fault or mistake when I made them.
This is a great book to show children that nobody is perfect and that making mistakes is fine as long as you honestly admit to them.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Admitting Mistakes is Courageous
Such a growth mindset based attitude around being honest, learning and growing. This book encourages children to be solutions based. Includes Talking Time discussions and a checklist to handle mistakes like a hero. Such an all encompassing book.
I received a free copy of this book from and Capstone. I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
I love this so much! The story is great. The connection to kids is perfect. I enjoyed the art. In the end there are even questions for discussion with your littles. It isn't often that things come together to create the perfect book but this is is flawless.
5 stars
I loved this book so much! It is so important for kids to learn that it's OK to make mistakes, and you can learn and grow from them. Additionally, this book teaches this lesson by using famous superheroes that kids look up to as examples. This makes the lesson so much more valuable to little kids because they already look up to these characters, and they will want to be just like them. Kids will walk away from this book equipped with the tools they need to be just like a superhero and use their mistakes to their advantage. Lastly, the illustrations were in a comic book format, which I thought was such a clever idea! It keeps the book on-theme and puts it in an engaging format that kids will adore (this is especially due to the bright colors and crisp lines).
Bravo!
My family was lucky enough to be allowed to read an ARC of Do Superheros Make Mistakes and I truly appreciate it! Michael's Dahl's Bedtime for Batman is an absolute favourite in our house at bedtime, a book despite being a board book is still well loved by my 8 and 10 year olds. This book will be a great addition for them once it releases and we bring it home. I read it to my boys and they loved it and I hoped they would. They love the reflection back on the kids reminding them that they too are superheros and they love seeing their favourite superheros in the book. This book does really well at showing kids no matter what everyone makes mistakes, but it does more than that. It also shows them in the perfect kid friendly and relatable way how you can fix those mistakes. I would say this book is geared more towards ages 4 and up, the concept might go over younger children's heads as their still developing those ideas, but children of all ages will love seeing their favourite superheros and kids just like them (I love the diversity!) anytime in this book!
Thank so very much from the bottom of my heart for allowing myself and my children early access to love this book!
This picture book has colorful illustrations and simple text, introducing DC superheroes and showing how they make mistakes, too. The illustrations are bright and fun, and they sometimes appear in comic-style split panels, comparing how both kids and superheroes make similar types of mistakes. The book sends an encouraging message about accepting and growing from your errors, and the note at the end shares additional ideas about how to foster a growth mindset. This will be a great fit for both home and classroom settings.
A well-illustrated and written picture book paralleling the growing experiences of a hero and an average kid who might be reading this book. The scenarios shared seem incredibly out of proportion, but the author does a great job of narrowing the focus to how kids relate to the mistakes the heroes make. Superheroes are a popular, trendy subject, so using them to convey important concepts like learning from mistakes keeps kids interested while learning these good lessons. The illustrations are colorful and inviting, with a diverse cast of heroes and families. Kids can see themselves compared to the heroes they admire from the DC universe. The back matter includes insightful discussion questions should grown ups wish to extend the learning experience.
What a great book for kids. I love the punchy illustrations and the diverse characters. I think superheroes making mistakes is a fantastic idea because kids have the tendency to believe superheroes are perfect. Showing superheroes making mistakes allow themselves the grace to make some too and learn from it. Having the discussion questions and activities at the end tie the book all together nicely. Well done!
What a great message this story has, gently explaining to young readers that even the most "perfect" superhuman heroes are just as "imperfect" as we regular humans are- and that's okay! The situations we find ourselves in are just like the many DC superheroes featured in this story: they too are late, they accidentally break stuff, they get scared, they forget things. But a good superhero knows that talking about their feelings, learning from their experiences and forgiving themselves is what we all should do.
Keep Calm and Superhero On!
I received a digital uncorrected proof copy of this book. It was easy to read to my child in this format. The bright illustrations just pop! Simple text in speech bubbles and boxes really stands out against the colorful panels. I can only imagine how good this story will be in physical book format. It has the look of a comic or graphic novel but for a younger audience, which is great for our family- now my kindergartner can read a book that looks just like his teen brother's beloved graphic novels! My little guy had fun swiping the pages and also was excited to answer the age-appropriate Talk Time discussion questions at the end of the book.
All in all, this was an enjoyable read for both my son and me! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this e-book for review.
My 6 year old son and I had the opportunity to read Do Super Heroes Make Mistakes and we loved it! The book was eye catching to my son and the message portrayed throughout the book was pleasing to me. The illustrations were beautiful and added value to the storyline. I especially enjoyed that the illustrations and storyline switched from 'super hero' to 'kid' throughout the book so it was easy for my son to see himself in those situations. We would certainly recommend this book to any family with young children.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
I’m always looking for superhero books for young readers. This has great illustrations and a positive message about how we all make mistakes. Very cute’
A great little book which helps children learn that making a mistake is fine, and that you learn by your mistakes.
Most younger children, boys and girls like superheroes, so this book showing that the superheroes make mistakes , makes it more relateable.
Very simple to read and understand, and the illustrations were very bright and eyecatching too.
Such a cute picture book to open up discussions with kids about how to handle their mistakes. My first grader always becomes very upset when he answers a question wrong or forgets how to write a word.
This book is a great tool for us to learn coping mechanisms along with cool superheroes. This book should be in every classroom!
I received a ARC of this title, all opinions are my own.
I love this book! My six year old loves superheroes so this would be a great book for him. I love the combination of superheroes and the lesson of it’s ok to make mistakes., take the opportunity to learn and try again! I also appreciated the activity guide, questions to discuss with an adult and the “What to do when I make a mistake” checklist.
Cute children's book to help children understand that making a mistake is something everyone does.
I love the lesson of this book, I especially love that the book sent the message that we should own our mistakes and learn from them. The book also addressed sometimes feeling afraid but working to achieve a goal anyway.
Overall, I think the message is something that is really helpful for children.
The illustrations and set up of the book look like a comic book, which I'm sure is appealing to a lot of children, especially boys. The language is a little on the simpler side, probably geared toward an audience in the 5-7 year old range.
The questions at the end were a nice touch to give parents. teachers, or caregivers some talking points to discuss with children about making mistakes.
Such a cute book! My 3.5 year old son is big into superhero’s right now so when I saw this title I knew I had to read it to him. He loved it and now I think we 100% need a hard copy for his collection. Thank you!
This book was the perfect read for my child who just started Kindergarten. With so many scary new changes and trying to navigate her way around a new school, she had a lot of fears that she would make mistakes. This book perfectly explained that even the toughest of superheroes will make mistakes and that’s ok. Mistakes are what we use to grow and learn. I loved that the book showed the mistakes from the superheroes but also related it to real life situations that a lot of kids face and how to approach it as a parent to help them learn.
This is a must add for any elementary library or SEL program! Sometimes superhero books can be a bit simplistic so I was pleasantly surprised with the complexity and layers to this title and the ways in which the author discusses mistakes and how we all make them. In the book the author compares mistakes superhero might make (like forgetting their suit at home) with a mistake a kid might make (wearing slippers instead of changing into shoes). In this way we not only see superheroes as real people but ourselves as superheroes as well. The author further reiterates this by talking about how to repair when we make mistakes which stood out to me as an appealing feature about this book: most books about mistakes talk about how we all make them but not what to do when we make mistakes. The fact that this one teaches us how to move forward after making a mistake sets it apart as a truly excellent title, especially for SEL. One example in the book was "Super Heroes talk about their mistakes so they are easier to fix." You see a child and parent talking about the mistake in a positive (not punitive) way, which teaches parents how to respond to children's mistakes as well. The illustrations are appealing and mimic the comic book style, which will engage children. This is one I plan to add to my home library and buy for my son's elementary school library. It would also be great for an OT or counseling office library addition as well. Highly recommend!
