Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy

I really enjoyed the eye popping images in this book. It was a lovely story. If only I had a child of my own to read this to. I am also sure that I would've enjoyed this book as a youngster.

And, Too, the Fox is a beautifully illustrated children’s book written by U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón. The poem is about a fox romping in backyards, finding food and living its life. The 24 pages of Gaby D'Alessandro’s illustrations are spectacular, making this a perfect bedtime book.

I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Lerner Publishing Group for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The lyrical text from U.S, Poet Laureate Ada Limón tells the reader about a fox that you might notice if you like to watch nature. The dreamlike illustrations from Gaby D'Alessandro are captivating. The richly detailed elements of nature painted in a pastel palette set the tone of a quiet day observing a fox. Each spread may show the fox several times, one picture per poetic phrase as the reader follows his action. This book is perfect for any young nature lover.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful! It’s meant for kids ages 5 and up however I read it to my 3 year old. She enjoyed the pictures and the poem kept her attention. A fun short read!

I really enjoyed this book. It was child friendly without being too childish for an adult to read. It reminded me of a little red fox I have living in the woods near my house. I also really loved the illustration style. Each scene and the colors chosen fit the poem perfectly. This review was also shared on my instagram @daydreaminginpages under the 2025 Book Reviews highlight.

Welcome to the fun world of the town fox to see and read about what they are like.
The illustrations by Gaby D'Alessandro are intricate, colorful, and FUN!
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age from 6 up including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone to read again and again, but especially to a school or your local public library!

A lovely book. The art is magnificent and lovely, especially when paired with the poem. The last section of the poem wasn't as enthralling as the beginning, though.

And, Too, the Fox is a lyrical picture book that is a perfect read-aloud for families and classrooms. The book inspires reflection and meaningful conversations about life’s journeys. The illustrations beautifully complement the text.

This book was not for me. The story jumped all over the place and did not describe the life of a fox. The pictures were ok.

Unlike most children's poetry books, And, Too, the Fox does not contain any rhymes. I loved the soothing flow of the poem, which tells the story of the life of a fox. Children will love the calming effect as well as the beautiful illustrations. Five stars.

I received a DRC from Lerner Publishing Group through NetGalley. This review is my own and reflects my honest opinions.

Current US Poet Laureate Ada Limon and artist/illustrator Gabby D'Alessandro have teamed up to create a gem of a children's book.

"And, Too, the Fox" traces the daily life of a fox as he hunts, forages for food, and plays with other foxes, all while managing to coexist with humans.

Most books that introduce poetry to young children have rhyming text. "And, Too, the Fox" is a wonderful reminder that poems can convey beautiful images and ideas without rhyming at all.

The poem's simple, straightforward, and honest text fits beautifully with Ms. D'Alessandro's illustrations, which are playful and vibrant without being loud. They follow the text so well that the fox seems to be bouncing along with the words!

The fox's hunt for food is gently mentioned in Ms. Limon's text and in Ms. D'Alessandro's drawings, as the fox chases, pounces on, and carries a squirrel in his mouth. Nothing more from the hunt is pictured or discussed. They handle a potentially scary situation for children with care and concern, and although some may still find the idea of the fox killing and eating small animals upsetting, some reassurance and an age-appropriate explanation from a trusted adult can help them understand.

Not only can the book be used to introduce young children to poetry, but it can also help parents, teachers, and other caregivers start to have simple discussions with them about the behavior of foxes, their role in the environment, and our responsibility to protect it.

I would recommend "And, Too, the Fox" for children aged seven and up, although it can be read, shared, and cherished by young and old alike.

Thanks to Lerner Publishing Group and Carolrhoda Books for considering this book for my review via NetGalley. All of the opinions expressed in this review are my own. The fact that the book was given to me as an Advanced Reader Copy had no bearing on my review, and I'm leaving it voluntarily.

The illustrations were beautiful and the poetry lovely as well, but together the elements didn't quite land. I think it would work well as an illustrated book for adults, but it didn't feel like a children's book to me, and it made sense when I read a review and discovered that the text was published as a poem first. I'm a huge fan of Limon though so I'm always eager to read anything she puts out.

Not only did And, Too, the Fox have absolutely gorgeous art, it also had an engaging story! This book is perfect for younger children (especially if they love animals!), sure to capture their attention with its appropriate vocabulary and simple text per page. A perfect story to read to your children!

I loved this illustrated poem through and through. This picture book is definitely geared more towards the enjoyment of adults as the poem speaks more to us than it might to our little ones. That is the main reason for four stars. Some of our older young readers might have more of an attachment to the message of the poem so I would recommend this for older elementary students.

What a beautiful combination of poetry and pictures. The illustrations blend so seamlessly as we follow the Fox through his life. This is a great introduction to Ada Limon for children.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this gorgeous picture book
