This is a useful cookbook with great recipes for one pot/pan/wok meals. I liked the variety of recipes, they weren’t the same old thing. The broken spaghetti with clams is delicious, and I also loved the salmon with toasted garlic. There’s something for everyone in this cookbook!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I love recipes that support people who are so busy and/or don't have the energy to spend gobs of time cooking. There is a good variety of recipes, but there is a heavy emphasis on seafood dishes. And gluten-free is not addressed all. I wish there were more pictures of the meals because those help me decide if I want to make a recipe or not. As a picky eater, I saved two recipes to try (which is about my usual for a cookbook).
There are several fairly easy recipes in this book, but only a few that I think will work for my family personally. I haven't had time to try any of the recipes yet though. Overall, I really enjoyed flipping through this one though.
Simple recipes that you'd expect from the title. Nothing was particularly special or unique compared to other receipts I've seen over the years but it's nice to have one book with easy one-pot recipes.
For busy parents or lazy cleaners, The "I Don't Want to Cook" Book: Dinners Done in One Pot, cookbook by Alyssa Brantley promises to be a helpful guide in navigating easy and mess-free dinners. Brantley guides users through meals that involve just a Dutch oven, casserole dish, or skillet pan in order to make a healthy and filling meal for their family. With 100 recipes, there is bound to be a meal perfect for all readers.
I've never reviewed a cookbook before, so I am struggling a little to give my honest feedback in a way that is helpful. Out of the 100 recipes in this book, I identified around 7 that I thought I could make with the tools I had and the needs and tastes of my family (4 individuals with 2 children under 4). I suggested these meals to my husband and he narrowed them down further to about 2. I tried those two recipes and they were...fine. Were they mess-free and hassle-free? Pretty much, yes. Were they recipes I would return to? Not really.
I hate not giving this book more positive feedback, given that I only tried 2 recipes, but overall this one wasn't a big win for me or my family.
A great book for beginners or people who just don’t have the time to cook but want to! As a busy mom of 2, this cookbook was VERY helpful for making dinner a snap between clubs and soccer games. A genius idea of a book!
I loved this cookbook and will be buying it for myself. The recipes I tried were tasty, easy, and true to the times stated (rarity in cookbooks). I loved that the sections were broken down based on method of cooking.
I think the real customer for this cookbook is a beginner cook. These are great, simple recipes not just for an accomplished cook, but they’re easy enough for someone who is just learning cook. There are recipes to appeal to teens as well as older people.
This is probably not a book for me, but I would jump to buy it for a 21 year old getting a first apartment.
There are several quick and easy recipes I cant wait to try! Typically when we get the "I don't want to cook" feeling we run to the fast food restaurants so I cant wait to give this a try the next time we get that feeling!
When they say One Pot Cooking with these recipes - they definitely mean it. Easy and delicious meals to cook up, with minimal washing up is such a win for me.
I made a handful of dishes from this book and all of them had so much flavour and were an absolute hit and majority of them I would make again. They were also that simple, I won’t even have to refer back to the recipe.
Dishes I Cooked;
🍽️ Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato, Shrimp and Gnocchi Skillet - I did shrimp for myself and chicken for my partner and his words were “best gnocchi dish I’ve had.”
🍽️No-Mix Cheesy Meatball Subs - these will easily be on rotation in our household.
🍽️ Peanut Sauce Chicken and Cabbage Rolls - we eat a rice salad bowl weekly, so I did add rice with this and the peanut sauce was delectable.
🍽️ Deconstructed Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole - my favourite dish from the book!!
🍽️ Hands-Off Homemade French Dip Sandwiches - I didn’t make this as a sandwich, I made the French Dip Pulled Beef and we had it with roast vegetables instead.
There are many more recipes that I would like to whip up and it is definitely a cookbook I will come back to for dinner inspo during this busy week!
Thank-you @adams_media @netgalley and Alyssa Brantley for this Digital Advanced Readers Copy, in exchange for an honest review.
Terrific cookbook for when you don’t have a lot of time. These recipes are easy and quick. Lots of different styles and modes (crockpot, instant pot etc.)
While I was eager to look over the recipes and even try some, I just wasn’t able to get into the recipes like I wanted. That’s the thing with cookbooks, I can usually find one, maybe two that would be something I would make as I have a very pick husband.
A 3.5/5 stars cookbook.
Something I really want to see in my cookbooks are pictures of the recipes, and sadly in this book, most recipes don't have a picture.
At the beginning of the book you get some information about what pots and pans work best and how to make the whole cooking process even faster, which is a great addition to this type of cookbook.
The recipes are not very unique, but many of them sound really tasty. Every recipes come with information regarding how many serves there are, prep time, active cook time, hands-off cook time, a list of ingredients (only using imperial system sadly), easy and clear instructions and nutritional values per serving.
There are many things I liked about this book, but more photos would have made it so much better and way more appealing for me personally.
Wow. This was fantastic. All these recipes look and sound so delicious. They are all low effort and take so little time to make. I'm obsessed with how easy it all is. The author took so much care to include plethora of cooking pots so literally anyone can make a recipe from this cookbook. I need to make every single recipe in here ASAP! So amazing.
This cookbook has some good recipes, especially for people who don't like doing dishes (aka me). I can't wait to try out some recipes and see how they turn out. This is a great resource of recipes all in one place with good nutritional and replacement info. There is nothing too unique about the recipes and layout but this is a solid, good cookbook.
I'm so excited to try some of these recipes out!!! I love making one-pot meals because I hate doing the dishes hahahahaha. Some recipes are not winners for me simply because they have ingredients that I won't eat, but the ones I will make sound great and will be a fun way to change up my normal cooking routines.
As someone who frequently struggles to have the mental energy for cooking but still would prefer not to order out every night, this was a fun collection of easy one-pot meals that I can just flip through. The recipes are split into sections according to the style or equipment required (skillet, dutch oven, casserole, etc) with a very easy to follow recipe with prep and active cooking times. I also appreciated the addition of the nutritional info and substitutions you can make.
It's a solid list of recipes, though not anything you couldn't find if you put in the effort of looking. But honestly it's hard to beat having a list of collected recipes for when you just can't be bothered to do more than throw the meal together. I also liked the design of the book and it had some good photos of the finished meals. I'll definitely be getting a copy for my low energy days.
Thank you to NetGalley & Adams Media for this ARC in exchange for my review! The "I Don't Want to Cook" Book: Dinners Done in One Pot by Alyssa Brantley is a great cookbook that suits my lifestyle and my cooking style.
I am a "cookbook connoisseur" and read them like books for fun. I really enjoyed the way Ms. Brantley organized the book and the photos that were provided...although I would have appreciated more photos of the individual finished dishes. I really liked that many recipes include "Tips. Substitutions, and More...note that helped one think outside of the box if one didn't have all the listed ingredients on-hand, etc. The recipes were straight-forward and well-written and I can see me using this book on a weekly basis. More to the point...this is a book that I can hand my not-so-experienced-in-the-kitchen husband and trust that he will knock the recipe out of the park!
I was a bit concerned that some of the recipes might be a bit bland but I just fixed one of the easiest and fastest...the Deconstructed Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole. Despite my natural tendency to go "my own way" when cooking, I made this dish exactly as the recipe was written and it is DELICIOUS! Moist, flavorful, and cooked to perfection! Definitely in rotation in our kitchen.
The "I Don't Want to Cook" Book: Dinners Done in One Pot by Alyssa Brantley has impressed me and will have a place on my shelf for a long time to come.
I get that these are all one pot dinners, but they seemed a bit repetitive. Nothing that really jumped out at me. The recipes didn't sound terrible, just sort of meh. I wasn't excited to get up and make anything.

As someone who isn't a huge fan of cooking (or cleaning up the mountain of dishes and utensils that are made in the process), I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a cookbook geared towards minimal dirty-dish making. I know that this isn't the first cookbook written in this specific genre, but it is one of the first I've picked up. Overall, I liked the recipes. Though I wasn't a fan of the Instant Pot section (I don't have one and I don't like them; just a matter of personal preference), otherwise this might've been a higher rating.
