I think the real customer for this cookbook is a beginner cook. These are great, simple recipes not just for an accomplished cook, but they’re easy enough for someone who is just learning cook. There are recipes to appeal to teens as well as older people.
This is probably not a book for me, but I would jump to buy it for a 21 year old getting a first apartment.
There are several quick and easy recipes I cant wait to try! Typically when we get the "I don't want to cook" feeling we run to the fast food restaurants so I cant wait to give this a try the next time we get that feeling!
When they say One Pot Cooking with these recipes - they definitely mean it. Easy and delicious meals to cook up, with minimal washing up is such a win for me.
I made a handful of dishes from this book and all of them had so much flavour and were an absolute hit and majority of them I would make again. They were also that simple, I won’t even have to refer back to the recipe.
Dishes I Cooked;
🍽️ Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato, Shrimp and Gnocchi Skillet - I did shrimp for myself and chicken for my partner and his words were “best gnocchi dish I’ve had.”
🍽️No-Mix Cheesy Meatball Subs - these will easily be on rotation in our household.
🍽️ Peanut Sauce Chicken and Cabbage Rolls - we eat a rice salad bowl weekly, so I did add rice with this and the peanut sauce was delectable.
🍽️ Deconstructed Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole - my favourite dish from the book!!
🍽️ Hands-Off Homemade French Dip Sandwiches - I didn’t make this as a sandwich, I made the French Dip Pulled Beef and we had it with roast vegetables instead.
There are many more recipes that I would like to whip up and it is definitely a cookbook I will come back to for dinner inspo during this busy week!
Thank-you @adams_media @netgalley and Alyssa Brantley for this Digital Advanced Readers Copy, in exchange for an honest review.
Terrific cookbook for when you don’t have a lot of time. These recipes are easy and quick. Lots of different styles and modes (crockpot, instant pot etc.)
While I was eager to look over the recipes and even try some, I just wasn’t able to get into the recipes like I wanted. That’s the thing with cookbooks, I can usually find one, maybe two that would be something I would make as I have a very pick husband.
A 3.5/5 stars cookbook.
Something I really want to see in my cookbooks are pictures of the recipes, and sadly in this book, most recipes don't have a picture.
At the beginning of the book you get some information about what pots and pans work best and how to make the whole cooking process even faster, which is a great addition to this type of cookbook.
The recipes are not very unique, but many of them sound really tasty. Every recipes come with information regarding how many serves there are, prep time, active cook time, hands-off cook time, a list of ingredients (only using imperial system sadly), easy and clear instructions and nutritional values per serving.
There are many things I liked about this book, but more photos would have made it so much better and way more appealing for me personally.
Wow. This was fantastic. All these recipes look and sound so delicious. They are all low effort and take so little time to make. I'm obsessed with how easy it all is. The author took so much care to include plethora of cooking pots so literally anyone can make a recipe from this cookbook. I need to make every single recipe in here ASAP! So amazing.
This cookbook has some good recipes, especially for people who don't like doing dishes (aka me). I can't wait to try out some recipes and see how they turn out. This is a great resource of recipes all in one place with good nutritional and replacement info. There is nothing too unique about the recipes and layout but this is a solid, good cookbook.
I'm so excited to try some of these recipes out!!! I love making one-pot meals because I hate doing the dishes hahahahaha. Some recipes are not winners for me simply because they have ingredients that I won't eat, but the ones I will make sound great and will be a fun way to change up my normal cooking routines.
As someone who frequently struggles to have the mental energy for cooking but still would prefer not to order out every night, this was a fun collection of easy one-pot meals that I can just flip through. The recipes are split into sections according to the style or equipment required (skillet, dutch oven, casserole, etc) with a very easy to follow recipe with prep and active cooking times. I also appreciated the addition of the nutritional info and substitutions you can make.
It's a solid list of recipes, though not anything you couldn't find if you put in the effort of looking. But honestly it's hard to beat having a list of collected recipes for when you just can't be bothered to do more than throw the meal together. I also liked the design of the book and it had some good photos of the finished meals. I'll definitely be getting a copy for my low energy days.
Thank you to NetGalley & Adams Media for this ARC in exchange for my review! The "I Don't Want to Cook" Book: Dinners Done in One Pot by Alyssa Brantley is a great cookbook that suits my lifestyle and my cooking style.
I am a "cookbook connoisseur" and read them like books for fun. I really enjoyed the way Ms. Brantley organized the book and the photos that were provided...although I would have appreciated more photos of the individual finished dishes. I really liked that many recipes include "Tips. Substitutions, and More...note that helped one think outside of the box if one didn't have all the listed ingredients on-hand, etc. The recipes were straight-forward and well-written and I can see me using this book on a weekly basis. More to the point...this is a book that I can hand my not-so-experienced-in-the-kitchen husband and trust that he will knock the recipe out of the park!
I was a bit concerned that some of the recipes might be a bit bland but I just fixed one of the easiest and fastest...the Deconstructed Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole. Despite my natural tendency to go "my own way" when cooking, I made this dish exactly as the recipe was written and it is DELICIOUS! Moist, flavorful, and cooked to perfection! Definitely in rotation in our kitchen.
The "I Don't Want to Cook" Book: Dinners Done in One Pot by Alyssa Brantley has impressed me and will have a place on my shelf for a long time to come.
I get that these are all one pot dinners, but they seemed a bit repetitive. Nothing that really jumped out at me. The recipes didn't sound terrible, just sort of meh. I wasn't excited to get up and make anything.
*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!*
As someone who isn't a huge fan of cooking (or cleaning up the mountain of dishes and utensils that are made in the process), I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a cookbook geared towards minimal dirty-dish making. I know that this isn't the first cookbook written in this specific genre, but it is one of the first I've picked up. Overall, I liked the recipes. Though I wasn't a fan of the Instant Pot section (I don't have one and I don't like them; just a matter of personal preference), otherwise this might've been a higher rating.
Wow! What a great cook book. Every cook book I have really over complicates healthy meals. This is a great book for when you just want to do something simple and throw things together. I made all the recipes of every busy days after work. I also loved the pictures.
We have all been there with the dreaded "what do you want for dinner" game..
and the answer is always delivery, heat up leftovers or waht can I make with the least amount of effort.
This cookbook heard you!
This book is all low fuss and you can use multiple cooking styles like I used slow cookers and even an insta pot..
you need a cooking vessel and just slide the times to meet that.
I also like that it wasnt a book that says toss a protein with cream of whatever and come back in an hour.. it elevates those meals
you will see some receipes that just have you look at ingredients differently like making a chicken caprese salad, making a sheet pan meal differently and you can commit crimes like me and make the salmon with toasted garlic tomatoes and pear couscous and use chicken instead.
I think this is a good open to a random page and thats for dinner book becuase most items in here are staple foods/easily substituted.
I will say this book isnt targeting to anyone with food intolerances/certain lifestyles and you will need to heavily edit to meet those dietary restrictions.
I will also say this book would have been enahnced with a photo of each receipe becuase I feel the book is set for first time cooks and having a what it should look like versus what you made can really bring people up and give them satisfation they did it.
I happen to love one pot dinners and this cook book provided some wonderful recipes using a variety of pots to use: dutch oven, skillet, sheet pan, casserole dish, etc. A great book to have on hand to plan for those nights when you want to make a meal with a minimum of fuss and equipment.
Super easy one pot / sheet pan meals here. I appreciated the ease of cooking, the pictures, and the general vibe of this. With that said, I don't know that it feels eye-catching or super innovative either, and probably is similar to these types of recipes you can find online.
This is an absolute "MUST HAVE" in your kitchen pantry.
Simplify your mealtimes with this excellent, well written and illustrated recipe book.
With chapter titles like SIZZLING SKILLET CREATIONS, DUTCH OVEN DINNERS, DINNERS IN A MIXING BOWL, CONVENIENT CASSEROLES, SHEET PAN DINNERS, INSTANT DINNERS, you can rest assured that you have the necessary kitchenware and ingredients for at least one, if not all, of these delicious, mouthwatering recipes. You will find a range of flavours from mild to hot and spicy, so be prepared to wake up your taste buds with Frank's RedHot or Sriracha sauce and the odd jalapeno when the recipe calls for it. (The author also provides substitutions for the less daring eater, never fear!)
The title "Dump and Go Pasta Dinner" gave me a good chuckle. The author provides you with fast, budget-friendly ingredients that are easy to find in your local grocery store. The cooking instructions are clear and easy to follow and alternate serving and pairing suggestions are included in an economic, time friendly manner. (You won't have to search through paragraph after paragraph of narrative: measure it, toss it in the pot, put the heat on or the plug in the outlet and voila: dinner is served!!!)
The Creamy Buffalo Blue Cheese Chicken Sandwiches (or lettuce wraps) sounded too easy: a slow cooker dream come true! Many of the titles for the recipes were intriguing and got my taste buds all revved up ! (Example: Pesto-Crusted Cod with Sugar Snap Peas and Delicata Squash or Adobo Swordfish with Pico de Gallo and Broccolini - both of these are on my To Do list!
I highly recommend this excellent cookbook: budget friendly as well as an excellent time saver. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this fabulous culinary feast for the eyes and the gastronomic imagination, in exchange for an honest review. Loved it!
There are some delicious recipes in this book that are carefully explained and many of options for how you want to cook them and the easiest way to make that possible. With very little clean up and great tips to prep you before you start. This gives you clear instructions to make no fail meals. There are times I enjoy cooking and others I want quick and easy this gives you a little bit of both with delicious end results. Some of the recipes are absolutely decadent while others have health consciousness in mind. There will be several I’ll be rotating through my weekly meals. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for this free advanced copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily
I really like this cookbook. I’m a huge fan of one pot meals. I really like how the recipes are divided up by cooking method. I haven’t made any of the recipes yet, but have my eye on quite a few. Nice photos also.
