The Durian Pact is an excellent presentation of the problems facing Great Britain over the years as they deal with the IRA, Scottish independence, and the trade routes in SE Asia. Although it feels at times like a school lesson, author Christopher Howarth keeps it interesting as he portrays China leading to the takeover of Taiwan and its effects on the world. Corruption in the British government is an interesting sideshow.
All in all I was impressed with the challenge that the author took upon himself, and pleased at how he handled it. The Durian Pact covers a lot of ground, and Howarth keeps it interesting.
