KL Dlater…. She once again gives you everything you expect from here and nothing you’d see coming. A very quick read that sucks you in right from the start. Brilliantly written.

Eleven years ago, Liv was left alone when her husband Rich took their toddler son Maddox to fly a kite…and was never seen again. The police found Maddox, but Rich remained missing and was pronounced dead seven years later. Since then, it’s just been Liv and Maddox struggling to get by - but she knows their luck will soon change…she’s already guaranteed it.

Nearby, a woman named Kait is pregnant with her and her husband Daniel’s first child. They had a quick but happy beginning to their relationship, but lately Daniel has been acting strangely. When he starts staying out all night, Kait knows he is up to something, and wants to know what.

This story is on the longer side, so you’d think there would be more, but there isn’t (not without spoilers). Maddox is a young teenager now, falling in with the wrong crowd. Liv is drinking too much, and is constantly worried. Kait is stressing not only about her baby, but her new husband possibly cheating on her. Then, there is a whole other side story involving money, secrets and murder.

I find this author’s books to be hit or miss for me - looking back, I either give them five stars or three stars. I thought this book started off great, but then got too convoluted with all of the side stories and timelines and extraneous characters. This is much more action-based than I prefer, but it was still a good read. 3.5 stars.

(Thank you to Bookouture, K.L. Slater and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on November 1, 2024.)

The Married Man by K.L. Slater was such a fun, addictive read. Readers climb aboard and buckle up. You're in for a fast, bumpy, thrilling ride.

Even the best laid plans have flaws and that is certainly the case when Rich and Liv Askew devise a plan where he disappears for years. After Rich gets himself into a mess, Liv agrees to this plan clearly not thinking of the repercussions it will have on their young son, Maddox. Sticking to the plan, Liv continues with her life, waiting for her payout, until she meets Kait. Kait is married to Daniel who bears a strong resemblance to Rich. Did Rich abandon their plan and move on with someone else? Could he do that to her and their son? And where is her promised payout?

Told in multiple POV'S, and in the past and present, this crafty story is full of lies and deceit, and is the true definition of a psychological thriller. It will have you turning the pages as fast as you can.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy

I'm crying with the ending, Rich's dilemma throughout the book made me sooooo sad. I still cannot believe all that happened in this book. There is sooo much to say about this but then there will be too many spoilers, just ENJOY the book. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!

Once again KL Slater has provided another book which I just devoured in a matter of hours. This author never ceases to amaze me as to how well written these books are and how engaging.

There is a great array of characters that are realistic and authentic providing us with a fantastic plot. Rich is Liv’s husband, and their son Maddox has a love of kites. On a trip out one afternoon to spend some quality time with his son, Rich disappears but Maddox is found. But Liv and Rich are both hiding a secret, a big one, and this may ultimately be their undoing. A pact made with good intentions towards each other may in years to come shock all of those involved.

The story is told from different POV’s in different time frames that give us an insight into the minds of the main key players. Twists and turns keep us guessing, who is telling the truth and who is out solely for their own gains.

A great thriller that I can highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.

𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒉𝒐𝒘, 𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒍...𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚, 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈.

This one was a mixed bag for me. It started off strong, dipped a little in the middle, and then was so wildly unrealistic at the end that I settled on a middle-of-the-road rating.

Livvy's husband Rich has taken their young son Maddox out to fly a kite, and hours go by, and they don't come home. Finally, young Maddox is recovered, but Rich is nowhere to be found...just as he and Livvy had planned.

Eleven years go by, and Livvy is waiting for her reward for imploding her entire family. But the deadline has come and gone, and there is no windfall waiting in her account like Rich promised. Even worse, Maddox is now a teenager who is asking questions about his father. Turns out that Rich may have been living two different lives that have now converged.

Too much of the plot was just outrageous. I'm all about a good popcorn thriller, but this one was a little much for me. Thank you to Bookouture for the early read. At the time this review was written, this title was expected to publish November 1, 2024.

K.L Slater is probably my favourite author and this new book certainly didn’t disappoint. It’s a fabulous read and one that I’d strongly recommend. It has everything you’d want in a great thriller and kept me guessing throughout.

What a read lots of twists and turns and it kept you questioning who was lying and who was telling the truth! The ending was totally unexpected!
Different characters who you do feel sorry for some of them and it’s told in different pov’s and different timelines but not in a confusing or complicated way! It’s well written!

The story is based around rich who goes missing one day whilst out with his then 3 year old son Maddox!
Liv knows he’s coming back to her eventually but Maddox thinks he’s dead and 11 years on she finds out he has a new wife!! This was not what they planned and now with police on her doorstep and this mystery new wife liv does not know who she can trust! Has rich conned her and Maddox? Are they safe?

Thank you to K.L Slater, Bookouture and Netgalley for my advance copy.

Wow, KL Slater certainly knows how to write a thrilling book that is impossible to put down even at 1am in the morning. Some really good characters in the book, Liv and Kait are easy to like and at times feel sorry for especially as we get to know them more. . Must say I learnt about dodgy business deals and the dark web that I hadn't got a clue about, just goes to show what people will do for money. Highly recommend this book by a brilliant author and can't wait for her next book.

This is the first book I've read by this author but the premise sounded intriguing. I ended up reading it in a day because I was so gripped! It didn't go where I expected it to, with plenty of twists and turns throughout to keep you guessing.

I would definitely read other titles by this author after trying this one.

This book started off with a bang, then got a little slow, but again picked up about halfway through and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were well developed, yet I couldn’t decide who to trust! I loved that I truly didn’t know what was going to happen. All around, a great read.

A woman awaits her husband's return eleven years after he disappears, leaving her with her young son. She knows her husband will return, but her son doesn’t. Then, she learns that her husband has a new wife. He has made a terrible mistake because that wasn’t part of their elaborate scheme, and now her life and the life of her son are in danger.

Liv and Rich have a crazy plan for him to disappear for years to evade the terrible mess he unwittingly got himself into. Except when the time is up for him to return, Liv realises that either she and their son Maddox were horribly deceived or something has gone very wrong. This is a complex book with multiple narrators yet somehow K.L Slater makes these characters realistic and relatable without confusing the reader. This really is a rollercoaster of a book, full of interweaving plot lines and gasp-worthy twists. Slater is a queen of this genre and this book is up there with her best. Thoroughly recommend.

Thank you to K.L Slater, Bookouture and Netgalley for my advance copy.

Wow this author does it again. Gives me a story that I think is going one way and then flips everything I believe over onto its head. Wow wow wow! This is a great thriller about a mother who is left abandoned by her husband who goes missing and has to carry on with her young son for many years until they can all be reunited again. As her boy grows up and starts to go off the rails she starts to question why her husband has not been in touch and as another woman appears on the sceen is the truth going to risk everyone’s lives. Don’t miss this one!!

I really enjoyed this twisty thriller. I read it quickly, in a couple of days, and was itching to know how it ended the whole time. Well written, great characters, and the book and chapters were a nice length.

The voices in this novel were so engaging. I really cared about the characters from the get go. It’s a novel about the cards we hold close to our chests and the costs of that wrapped up in a twisty murder mystery plot.
