This story revolves around two main characters, Liv and Kait. Liv's husband vanished 11 years ago, leaving her to raise their son on her own. Kait is adjusting to married life, pregnant with her first child. She beings to suspect that her husband is having an affair. The lives of the two women intersect when Kait finds something in her husband's pocket connecting him to Liv.
A pretty average read for me. I found it to be a bit lengthy, littered with some random storylines that didn't really add anything to the book. The ending was pretty surprising, albeit farfetched. I didn't really care for any of the characters and they were pretty unreliable. I think if this book was more concise and didn't have some of the side storylines, it would have been better!
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
K.L Slater always manages to get me out of a reading slump!!
Their books are always so gripping, and this one was no exception.
I really enjoyed this, and all the way through I was trying to guess what the ending would be... it turns out it was much more complicated than I initially had envisaged. I did get a bit lost towards the end and this was the main reason I couldn't give this the full 5*.
The book starts immediately with the drama, there is no lead up - and it was gripping throughout.
KL Slater has done it again!! They never disappoint!!
This one was a bit of a slower page turner for me. I overall enjoyed the story, but I felt like it didn't really pick up speed until about 70% into the book. There were a few times the character names got flipped during the story, so it was a little confusing. I know this is an advanced readers copy, so I'm hoping the issues will be fixed with the release. The ending was a little meh for me. I would recommend this book if you're looking for a quick short read, but also a book that you need to do a little powering through to reach the end. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC.
This author will never cease to amaze me. This was hard to put down with its dual timelines and unique plot. There were many characters to keep track of for those who aren't particularly crazy about that. I, however, found it more interesting, and for me, it kept the story going strong. With its many jaw-dropping twists and turns and the author's brilliant writing style, I devoured this one in record time. Four stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC
Wowza!! Just wow! One of the best thrillers I've read this year. Soooo many twists, turns, and surprises! Just when I thought I had it all figured out, something happened, and then it was back to the drawing board.
The one thing that annoyed me about this book, as with other books like this, is the way the author goes back and forth between past and present. I can never understand why authors do this.
I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to tackle another by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion/review.
I have read a few of K.L. Slater's books and have not been disappointed yet and I wasn't with this one.
Eleven years ago, Liv's husband, Rich, vanished without a trace, leaving behind their young son, Maddox. Now, as Liv prepares to receive a long-awaited financial settlement, she finds herself caught in a web of intrigue and danger.
With a complex plot of secrets and lies, The Married Man had me riveted. The short chapters and multiple perspectives had me gripped from the start but if I have one complaint, it's that the ending felt a bit rushed but that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of this book.
Recommended to those of you who enjoy a great thriller with some great twists and many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this riveting read.
The Married Man was such an interesting book.
The plot was unique
There are a lot of characters which slowed down my progress in the beginning. Once I got them all figured out it went by quicker. A lot of unlikable people in this one, but also some I liked too.
I really like the character of Maddox and the role he played in finding out the truth.
I wasn't sure where this one was going to go, but that's a good thing. I like to be surprised.
Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.
This book took me longer to complete than expected. I think part of my struggle and lack of desire to want to read it at every waking moment was it was in the UM. Some terms were unfamiliar to me. There were also quite a few characters. There were cliff hangers to make me want to keep going but it didn’t get good until 75% into it.
Wow!
What did I just read?!?!
Another great one from K.L. Slater, who never disappoints. Let's just say The Married Man not only has a great plot, it also has well-written characters that take you on a twisty roller-coaster ride full of secrets, betrayal, and deceit. It was an absolute page-turner that kept me hooked until the very end.
*Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
"The Married Man" by K.L. Slater follows Liv as her husband suddenly disappears during a day out with their son, Maddox. Eleven years later, Liv is waiting for a huge chunk of money to appear in a secret bank account, presumably to be deposited by her "missing" husband. However, when the money doesn't show up, Liv starts digging into her husband's whereabouts. If her husband is still alive, why hasn't he deposited the money? Has he remarried and started a "new" life?
Thank you to the publisher, Bookouture, for approaching me directly with a review request and for the gifted copy. All opinions expressed here are my own.
This novel is filled with multiple characters, which took me some time to sort out. It was a decent enough story; however, there were many outrageous twists that made it too overwhelming and unbelievable. Unfortunately, this book was just okay but not memorable. I've heard that this author has plenty of great books to offer.
If you're looking for a cat-and-mouse chase story with exciting twists, this may just be for you.
I like a story that keeps you guessing throughout the entire thing. I didn't trust a single character in The Married Man. Well, maybe the kid. That's about it. There were a few times in which I forgot exactly where I was and who was who. That may be more due to my state of mind while reading it than the book itself. Still, all of the characters were not exactly likable, but still kept me wanting to know what was going to happen to them. Bringing it all together at the end was mostly satisfying.
Clever idea and interesting with the teenage son angle. Decent but not great. I wasn't hooked but I did read it and it was OK.
I enjoyed this psychological thriller that took me on twists & turns leading up to the big conclusion. I wasn’t expecting the secrets that were lying beneath this story. I recommend The Married Man to thriller lovers!
Thank you, KL Slater, bookouture & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
2012
Liv and Rich have a 3-year-old son, Maddox, whom they adore. For his birthday, they bought him a kite as he loves to watch other children fly kites at Frog Rock. So, Rich is taking him there today so they can have fun with his new toy. As Liv drank a bit too much wine the night before, she will stay home and rest. But as time for Rich and Maddox to return gets later, she decides to drive there herself. All she finds is Rich’s empty car and no sign of her husband and son. She walks around calling for them, to no avail. Therefore, she heads back home and decides to call the police. They go to the site and although there is no sign of Rich, they find Maddox hiding in a little area.
2024
Rich was never found and now he has been presumed dead. Maddox is a healthy young 14-year-old obsessed with football. Some years ago, Liv decided to move to another area and changed their last name. Maddox feels cheated out of not having his father and it haunts him at times.
Kait and Daniel are happily married. Kait is pregnant but has been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and needs to stay home and take care of herself. Daniel is a personal trainer but some of his actions make Kait suspicious of him so she decides to investigate.
This is a taste of the characters involved in this intricate and somewhat complicated mystery. The intrigue will keep the reader glued to their seat carefully reading this book as it twists and turns. It’s somewhat long but it’s necessary to get this story told in its entirety. This is the ninth book I have read by this author and I have come to know I can rely on her to keep my interest. Enjoy!

The Married Man by K.L. Slater was a fantastic psychological thriller from start to finish. It was a book once i start to read it I could not put it down. Kim has away of writing to bring her audience into her books, with great storylines and brilliant characters that make these books gripping. The married man was no different! especially as its full of lies, secrets, and lots of twists, and turns throughout. I loved it
Kim at her best! I highly recommend this book 5 Star read and great for Holiday's
Big thank you to NetGalley and especially Bookouture for my ARC.
I’m typically a big fan of K.L. Slater’s books but this one just didn’t work for me. If it hadn’t been an ARC, I would have DNF’d it. It took so long to capture my interest & by the time things picked up, around 60% in, I was too frustrated by how much time I’d already invested to fully enjoy it.
The characters felt flat & uninteresting. Although the twists weren’t predictable, they still fell short of being exciting.
★½ ROUNDED UP ⬆️⭐️
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the book #TheMarriedMan by #KLSlater. Eleven years ago my husband and I had a plan. He didn’t stick to his plan. Now I find out he is married. This is not how it was supposed to go for me and my son, Maddox. Our lives are in danger and I have no idea how to fix it. I couldn’t out this book down.
Eleven years ago Livs husband Rich disappeared and has now been presumed dead. With this comes something Liv and their son Maddox have been counting down towards.
Kait is pregnant with her first baby and her husband Daniel is suddenly acting different and suspicious. Her world is soon set to collide with Livs and secrets of old are set to surface.
This is a slow burn, mystery read with a good plot. Once it gets going it’s hard to put down and the chapters from the police perspective tie it together nicely.
Many thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for me eARC.
This one started out as your normal domestic suspense. It really lulled me into the characters and the mystery before taking me on the wild roller coaster ride at the end. A slow start and build to a fast frenzied ending. It reminded me a little of a Freida McFadden popcorn thriller where I was thinking did I figure it out? it couldn’t possibly be that easy. And it wasn’t.
It’s a very twisty and unpredictable solution to a crazy complex plot. Told through multiple narrators and nonlinear over the course of 11 years, the author does a great job of creating a ton of layers and not leaving any strings dangling from all the complexity.
It is a great escapist read. While not the most plausible plot, but gripping and entertaining. I’d go into this one cold and make sure and clear your schedule because once the mystery starts to unravel, you won’t want to put this one down.
Wow! What did I just read!?
My head is spinning with all the twists, turns and the wonderful cast of characters.
Lives torn apart by greed, lies, and deceit.
A brilliantly executed thriller.
As always the author knocks it out of the park and delivers a breathtaking read,
