Grab your popcorn, πΏπ€ hit the recline on your favorite reading chair, and settle in. Okay, letβs begin with the latest release by K.L. Slater.
Told from multiple POVβs.
The primary characters we hear from include:
Liv - her husband Rich vanished 11 years ago, leaving her to raise her son Maddox on her own. But now that Rich has been declared dead, if all goes as planned, life is about to turn around! But hit the brakes Livβ¦there may be a wrench in that plan.
Kait - still settling into married life, pregnant with her first child. Curiously, her husband Daniel is suddenly acting strange. Is he having an affair? What is he hiding?
Maddox- now a teenager about to make some poor decisions and trust the wrong people.
A bit of a slow start as we get to know all the characters, but by 20% it all the pieces come together as it gathers speed!
Was this what I was looking for when I picked up this latest thriller from KL Slater? Yup! Though itβs not my favorite from her it was a good solid (light) thriller. Looking forward to her next!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture
Livβs husband disappeared twelve years ago and now he has been legally declared dead.
She is waiting for the money she has been promised but other unscrupulous people are waiting too.
A triller loaded with secrets and lies with plenty of twist and turns.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Im a little torn on the ending of this book. I really enjoyed the book for the most part. It kept me interested through out. I liked the multiple perspectives. However, the ending was more complicated than it needed to me. The half brother and the sister in law felt like a stretch and unnecessarily complicated things. I donβt think the sister in laws character was needed. Kait and Sammy couldβve met naturally and Caleb couldβve found Sammy without Ellie. It just took it one step too far and complicated it too much. I liked that the mystery of the money was wrapped up at the end.
I did find an error also. Chapter 24 Kristen calls Kait but the book calls Kait βLivβ instead of Kait. I may be reading that wrong but I believe itβs a small error.
Overall, I will definitely be reading another book by this author since I did enjoy this one.
I wanted to love this but it fell completely flat for me. I continually thought to myself βwhat am I reading?!β And felt frustrated at times because this feels like a book that was rushed to complete.
Maybe for other people theyβd love it- the premise of the book sounds unique and intriguing but I just didnβt love it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this arc in change for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.
Full confession, I wanted to read The Married Man because I was ready to tuck into a vengeance story. I ended up getting incredibly drawn into a story that was not about that but a legitimate mystery about what the heck had 1. Happened to cause the married man in question to disappear and 2. What exactly he was up to, and in fact what was going on here.
I love to be surprised and while the book blurb does not misrepresent, this book will end up putting you so deep into a mystery that when youβre done youβll send your kudos to the blurb writer for not giving too much away. I enjoyed my reading and the completely unexpected places I went to. I also really enjoyed the bookβs structure, the pacing and flack backs were perfectly done to keep this a true mystery throughout. Finally, hats off to K.L. Slater for having quite a few characters (wives, detectives, baddies, family) but writing this story in such a way that it was never difficult to know who was who.
5 stars. I have read a few of this author's books and they were all good. That's what I expected from this one. But wow. This one was excellent. Liv is married to Rich. They have a 3 year old son, Maddox. Rich takes Maddox out on a Saturday morning to fly Maddox's new kite. Liv is frantic when they don't return and ends up eventually calling the police, but they only find Maddox. Rich is missing. 11 years go by. That's when the story takes place. Kait is married to Daniel. Kait feels Daniel has been acting very suspicious. She finds a note that Daniel has dropped and her sister deciphers it. Turns out that on the note is Maddox's unique pupil number. Kait is frantically wondering why her husband has information about a boy who looks exactly like him. Lots of secrets are being kept. Some people are innocent in all of this, some are not. There are quite a few characters in this book but they're introduced slowly so it's not confusing at all. I hate those books where in the first 2 chapters you have 14 different characters.
I loved this book because it was so different than your regular thrillers. It was so well written and spell binding, I didn't want to put it down. I couldn't wait to see what would happen at the end. I would not hesitate to recommend this book. Excellent book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it.
The Married Man by K.L. Slater gets you gripped from the very first chapter.
I thought this book was going to be the typical man fakes disappearance/death but i was surprised with how many twists there were.
This book is based on lies and deceit.
I'm not sure if I've read a book from this author before but ill definitely be picking up another one.
K.L. Slater has done it again! This book grips you from the beginning and doesnβt let go, with so many twists and turns. Livβs husband Rich disappears when out with his young son, Maddox (Maddox is found safe). Liv expects Rich to return in eleven years with a big windfall. Rich does not come back. Nearby, a woman named Kait is pregnant with her first child. Her husband Daniel is acting very unusually with cause for concern. Maddox is now fourteen and has been approached by some strange men and is discovering that his mom Liv may have been lying to him about his father. There are several other characters in this well crafted book. The plot twists are clever and will keep you hanging on until the end. With thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC. My opinions are my own.
The Married Man is another well paced satisfying thriller from K L Slater that hooks you instantly. 3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley, author KL Slater and Bookouture publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.
I believe this was the first book I have read by this author but it wonβt be the last. I found it to be fast paced with many twists and turns. I was shocked with the ending as I thought I had it figured out about halfway through and was wrong.
There are quite a few characters but it was still easy to follow along. I feel there could have been more developed and detail about some of the characters. For example Ellie. I wonβt say why to avoid spoilers but I feel her character needed more time and detail.
I found Kaitβs character to be somewhat annoying. Perhaps that was the authors intention but getting past that the rest of the characters were believable.
I feel the mental health aspects that sort of just get thrown into the end needed more exploring. The author did a great job explaining them, but I felt it was just tossed in there without a real lead up to it in Livβs character.
The storyline was great, believable in the sense of a thriller book. It was a different twist and plot which was nice.
3.5 βοΈβοΈβοΈ rounded up.
You just can't go wrong with a K L Slater book, and this fast-paced psychological thriller is another winner.
The strong storyline keeps you on your toes throughout with chapters told in multiple POV past and present.
At no time did I work out where we were heading, which I loved.
The surprises along the way were so unexpected but made so much sense.
The ending pulled on your heartstrings and was a perfect finish to what was a highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
KL Dlaterβ¦. She once again gives you everything you expect from here and nothing youβd see coming. A very quick read that sucks you in right from the start. Brilliantly written.
Eleven years ago, Liv was left alone when her husband Rich took their toddler son Maddox to fly a kiteβ¦and was never seen again. The police found Maddox, but Rich remained missing and was pronounced dead seven years later. Since then, itβs just been Liv and Maddox struggling to get by - but she knows their luck will soon changeβ¦sheβs already guaranteed it.
Nearby, a woman named Kait is pregnant with her and her husband Danielβs first child. They had a quick but happy beginning to their relationship, but lately Daniel has been acting strangely. When he starts staying out all night, Kait knows he is up to something, and wants to know what.
This story is on the longer side, so youβd think there would be more, but there isnβt (not without spoilers). Maddox is a young teenager now, falling in with the wrong crowd. Liv is drinking too much, and is constantly worried. Kait is stressing not only about her baby, but her new husband possibly cheating on her. Then, there is a whole other side story involving money, secrets and murder.
I find this authorβs books to be hit or miss for me - looking back, I either give them five stars or three stars. I thought this book started off great, but then got too convoluted with all of the side stories and timelines and extraneous characters. This is much more action-based than I prefer, but it was still a good read. 3.5 stars.
(Thank you to Bookouture, K.L. Slater and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on November 1, 2024.)
The Married Man by K.L. Slater was such a fun, addictive read. Readers climb aboard and buckle up. You're in for a fast, bumpy, thrilling ride.
Even the best laid plans have flaws and that is certainly the case when Rich and Liv Askew devise a plan where he disappears for years. After Rich gets himself into a mess, Liv agrees to this plan clearly not thinking of the repercussions it will have on their young son, Maddox. Sticking to the plan, Liv continues with her life, waiting for her payout, until she meets Kait. Kait is married to Daniel who bears a strong resemblance to Rich. Did Rich abandon their plan and move on with someone else? Could he do that to her and their son? And where is her promised payout?
Told in multiple POV'S, and in the past and present, this crafty story is full of lies and deceit, and is the true definition of a psychological thriller. It will have you turning the pages as fast as you can.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy
Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an UNBELIEVABLE BOOK The Married Man!!!!! This was WOW!!! My heart broke for Maddox and his decisions. What a PLOT, Awesome writing!!!! I'm crying with the ending, Rich's dilemma throughout the book made me sooooo sad. I still cannot believe all that happened in this book. There is sooo much to say about this but then there will be too many spoilers, just ENJOY the book. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!!!
Once again KL Slater has provided another book which I just devoured in a matter of hours. This author never ceases to amaze me as to how well written these books are and how engaging.
There is a great array of characters that are realistic and authentic providing us with a fantastic plot. Rich is Livβs husband, and their son Maddox has a love of kites. On a trip out one afternoon to spend some quality time with his son, Rich disappears but Maddox is found. But Liv and Rich are both hiding a secret, a big one, and this may ultimately be their undoing. A pact made with good intentions towards each other may in years to come shock all of those involved.
The story is told from different POVβs in different time frames that give us an insight into the minds of the main key players. Twists and turns keep us guessing, who is telling the truth and who is out solely for their own gains.
A great thriller that I can highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.

This one was a mixed bag for me. It started off strong, dipped a little in the middle, and then was so wildly unrealistic at the end that I settled on a middle-of-the-road rating.
Livvy's husband Rich has taken their young son Maddox out to fly a kite, and hours go by, and they don't come home. Finally, young Maddox is recovered, but Rich is nowhere to be found...just as he and Livvy had planned.
Eleven years go by, and Livvy is waiting for her reward for imploding her entire family. But the deadline has come and gone, and there is no windfall waiting in her account like Rich promised. Even worse, Maddox is now a teenager who is asking questions about his father. Turns out that Rich may have been living two different lives that have now converged.
Too much of the plot was just outrageous. I'm all about a good popcorn thriller, but this one was a little much for me. Thank you to Bookouture for the early read. At the time this review was written, this title was expected to publish November 1, 2024.
Everything I expected from k slater and nothing I saw coming with the storyline or characters. Amazing...as usual. K Slater never disappoints
This book was everything I expected and more. So so good. A page turner from the very beginning. All you want in a crime/thriller book and more.
Definitely one to add to your tbr lists,
K.L Slater is probably my favourite author and this new book certainly didnβt disappoint. Itβs a fabulous read and one that Iβd strongly recommend. It has everything youβd want in a great thriller and kept me guessing throughout.
