Let me start off by saying I am a big fan of Emily Royal and I generally enjoy her books, but I have to say this book in particular was very difficult for me to get into just because of what a horrible personality the main character had at the beginning. Halfway through I started to get into it.

I love Emily Royal books. I've enjoyed this series, but this book was very difficult for me to get into. Her harpy nature turned me off from the beginning, and I couldn't get past it.

This was an entertaining love story. It had interesting characters. The plot twists and turns were engaging. I enjoyed that it ended happily. If you like the movie Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, you'll enjoy this romance.

Overboard Meets Bridgerton

The story is a retelling of one of my favorite films since my youth, only set in the Regency period and I enjoyed every moment and laughed to tears. It is almost impossible to read the book without thinking of the original, so I knew roughly what was going to happen, but I was curious to see how the author would realise the plot and was thrilled. You can argue that both characters are not particularly likeable and have their flaws, but it's the hot chemistry between them and how they develop personally and together that makes the story so enjoyable. I already knew the heroine from the previous book in the series and a few of the likeable secondary characters from the author's „London Libertines“ series. I also grew fond of the children and many of the other characters.
For those unfamiliar with the film, the plot has enemies to lovers, class disparity, revenge and close proximity tropes and is full of humor, banter, deception, heartwarming moments, a touch of suspense and some steamy love scenes.

Lady Arabella Ponsford is the rich, spoiled and vile daughter of a duke and has been raised by her power-hungry aunt since the death of her parents to be a haughty, selfish lady who delights in humiliating and punishing her subordinates. As a result, she is known as the Harpy of the Ton and is either envied, hated or pitied for her behavior.
At the country estate of her fiancé, the Duke of Duncton, she meets the attractive gardener Lawrence Baxter, who is not impressed by her position but rather pities her. Enraged, she has his property burned and fired without pay.
Whilst riding, Arabella has an accident, is left behind by her fiancé and suffers from memory loss. Lawrence, who finds out about this by chance, sees his opportunity to take revenge on her. The widowed father of three lively children poses as her husband and takes her home, where she has to look after his children and his household until his losses are paid off...

A very entertaining book that I am happy to recommend!

I love this series. Each story shows us how people of the Ton are really just like those of us today only in a different time period. In this story of spoiled rich girl versus working class gentleman we see another side of both of these main characters. Arabella has another side to being spoiled but it takes Lawrence to lose his gentleman's honor to see it a appreciate it. If you liked the movie "Overboard", you will certainly enjoy this book. It has some humor and lots of aahh moments but most of all it has redeeming one's self into being a better person.

Lady Arabella Ponsford has it all, wealth, beauty, a title and the chance to marry a duke. Yet her vile temper finds her often punishing others, including Lawrence Baxter, a widowed father working to produce a garden for her at the request of the duke. When Lawrence dares to kiss Arabella, she retaliates, destroying his belongings and then hen evicting him without payment. He vows his vengeance and finds himself in the perfect position when Arabella loses her memory and is left destitute by her treacherous family. Lawrence takes her home to work off her debt, convincing Arabella that they are married. As Arabella adapts to a life filled with chores and children, Lawrence finds himself falling in love with the woman who rises to each increasingly difficult challenge he gives her. Yet, beneath it all, Lawrence realises that the lie he has told, will threaten any chance they have together.
A great retelling of the movie ‘Overboard’ yet I did struggle to separate myself from the movie, wishing that this would be just a bit different. Arabella was difficult to like and at times, Lawrence was a bit too arrogant. I did enjoy the dialogue between the two main characters and the hijinx of the children.

The book was the author's take on the film "Overboard," one of my favorite 80's films. Similarly to the Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russell movie, it features a wealthy heroine who is very unhappy in her own life and takes out her frustration on others. When she is suddenly struck with amnesia, the hero finds himself in a unique position. He pretends that she is his wife and the mother of his three unruly children. Having her slave away taking care of his home originally seems like the perfect revenge.
Living as Lawrence's wife was humbling in the extreme. Lady Arabella or "Bella" had to learn how to function as a housewife under the most primitive of conditions. Lawrence, who worked as a gardener, was never there to help her. He was actually very mean at times. He frequently had pangs of conscience, but he assuaged his guilt by recalling how horribly she had treated him when they initially met. When they eventually fell in love, it was sweet and their chemistry was amazing. Unfortunately, the truth was going to eventually come out and forgiveness and reconciliation would be difficult to achieve.
This "Overboard" themed novel was an entertaining read. Despite the occasional moments of sadness, I'm happy to say that I didn't tear up. A much angstier version of this story is Stacy Reid's "An Earl to Remember." In the Reid version, the hero had amnesia and I cried bucketfuls. Emily Royal is a wonderful author and I was happy that this story got to the HEA in a relatively easy manner. I was especially pleased to see the villains getting the creative punishment that they deserved. I received a free ARC from the author via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Arrogance isn’t confined to one class. It’s everywhere, as are the consequences that sometimes come with it. Lady Arabella Ponsford is spoiled, self-centered, and arrogant. Lawrence Baxter is a widowed father, excellent gardener, and outspoken. When these two butt heads, sparks fly (literally). A confrontation results in the destruction of Lawrence’s tools, sketches, and maybe his livelihood. Lawrence gets a chance to repay her when an accident causes her to lose her memory. With just a twinge of conscience, he claims her from the local doctor (they are ready for her to be gone), tells her she is his wife and mother to his children. She embarks on a new life which she comes to love. The arrival of Bella’s vile fiancé changes everything, or actually, puts it back like it was. That’s it, right? Or does fate have something different in mind. This is an enjoyable story; a Regency take on a popular movie from the 1980’s. It does take some time to come to like the main characters, but the changes are great to follow. I like Ned, Connie, Molly, the Trelawneys, and Whitcombe. Lawrence’s children are a rowdy delight. The comeuppance for the villain(s) is perfect. Entertaining plot, great characters, and a truly happy ending.

You will need tissues for this historical romance. Its very sad in a lot of places.
There are many nasty words to describe our heroine's character, but that didn't stop me from feeling very sorry for her. Nobody could see that she was wearing the only armour she had.
As for our hero, I wanted to knock some sense into him.
There are a lot of very cruel and spiteful characters in this story. Thank goodness for little children, they bring the sweetness and light.
A very entertaining story.

It took me about halfway through this novel to begin seeing some light. I almost abandoned reading further, when the main characters started to redeem themselves. Initially, both Lawrence and Arabella were impossible to like, but fortunately, they began finding some good in each other. While Arabella remained a victim of her circumstances, Lawrence could have told her the truth about her past and amnesia at any time. However, his need for vengeance got in the way of being an honorable man. Ultimately, the novel does come to a good conclusion, and everyone receives what they most deserve. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lady Arabella Ponsford has it all wealth, beauty, a title and the vilest temper in England. She takes pleasure from punishing anyone who offends her, including the arrogant gardener whose impertinent gaze licks over her form and sets her pulse racing. Widowed father Lawrence Baxter staked his future on a gardening commission at a country estate. When Arabella loses her memory in an accident and is left destitute by her treacherous family, Lawrence seizes the opportunity to take her home to work off her debt
A retelling for one of my favourite films. I did enjoy the book but couldn’t stop seeing the characters from the film. The characters had depth but I found it difficult to warm to them until late in the book. I did enjoy Lawrence & Arabella’s journey to a HEA which was eventful & lies & secrets were always going to cause problems

I like this author and this series but this book wasn’t my favourite. The amnesia trope has never been my favourite and it just seemed to go on forever 🤷🏼‍♀️ it did have some fun moments though

My rating 3.5 ⭐️

Original, a little devious, heartbreaking, passionate and very beautiful - an amnesia romance unlike all the others I’ve read so far!

~ Arabella & Lawrence ~
Venomous, vindictive and cruel, she’s an orphaned duke’s daughter, a frosty heiress raised by an ambitious unforgiving aunt and destined to marry a lecherous duke of her own.
He’s a widowed gardener, near broke and with three little monsters to raise and feed. He’s hardworking, a loving father, tough but fair and far too perceptive.
They meet in her garden where he looks straight through her act, and out of spite she destroys his belongings and gets him fired without pay. So when he hears of a young woman with no memories and fitting her description, found in the next village, he figures it’s time for a little payback...

A strange but compelling combination of noble and not so honourable intentions, this plot drew me in from the beginning. Honestly, she’s earned her reckoning, but it’s the subtle shift from revenge to care to love - and so much guilt - on his part that kept me spellbound.
She calls him ‘her beast’ - a title he certainly deserves - but even though life with him is hard, his children are hellions and the chores are never-ending, she fully blossoms in his home. Yes, she’s a pest at the beginning of this book, but there’s so much more to this woman.

I like the tipping of the scales in this story, the way their relationship evolves and grows. I like the giant pothole near the end and the way help turns up from the most unexpected corners. I like the MCs, the three little worms, the friends, the foes, the vicars, the doxy and the colourful village folk. I like the plot, the wit, the sizzle and the style. I like it all!
This was a marvellously enthralling read!

Underneath the harpy facade is someone else entirely. Only an amnesia would set the real woman free. Very enjoyable book that made me laugh and cry, and sympathize with the main and secondary characters with thoroughly detestable villains but the children stole the show!

I love a taming of the shrew story and this one had me hooked with a spoiled heiress and uncouth gardener. I enjoyed their banter, chemistry, undeniable desire and a true love that is everything. Arabella shines in a family environment and loved her and the kids and Lawrence falls irrevocably in love with his new family but there's lots to get through in the end like a big lie. It's a match that was always meant to be.

Arabella Ponsford may be a Lady, but she's not a very nice one. Forced to live with the cruelty of her aunt and the Duke of Dunton, she lashes out because of her unhappiness. Marriage to the Duke makes for a dim future. Her attraction to Lawrence Baxter, the gardner, is confusing and she displays her displeasure by destroying his possessions. After an accident, she loses her memory and Lawrence takes advantage to exact revenge by claiming she is his lost wife and the mother of his children. This book flows at an uneven pace with characters I didn't particularly like, until later in the book. Fortunately, it ends with a happy ending. Descriptive sex.

Being as she is meant to be. Ignore servants and put them in their place. Everyone beneath her is a peasant and not worth her time. Rude, selfish, and hated by those she meets. Yet she yearns to be different.
This book seemed to me to be a ‘remake’ of the movie overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I must say it is an absolute wonderful rendition of this movie. I wasn’t sure how it would go and was skeptical. But I REALLY enjoyed the book.
