Thank you to the publisher and author for an audible copy of this book.

I enjoyed the first book, Butcher and the Wren and so was pleased to get a copy of this from NetGalley.

It’s a solid game of cat and mouse that would be great as a TV series. The characters are great and you really aren’t sure what’s going to happen next. The writing / plot unravelling doesn’t blow me away which is why I’ve given it 3 stars

I liked this one more than the first! I would still read the first on to get the background story behind the main characters. This can still be a stand alone book.

Jeremy is back and is heading north to avoid being arrested for his prior crimes. This one has two POV's. Wren is trying to get through what she went through with Jeremy in the previous book while Jeremy is giving us a front row seat to his current crimes.

This one is dark and detailed regarding all the crimes he commits in this one. I was hooked on his chapters because they were so outrageous you couldn't stop reading. Wren is trying to cope with what happened so she is fighting through awful nightmares all while trying to find Jeremy.

The ending of this one really sets us up for a possible book 3!

This was a pretty well done audiobook and I wish I had read the first one through audiobook. I would have enjoyed that one a lot more.

This was a fine sequel. It's just one of those series that you pick up if you want a quick thriller where you don't have to think too hard. It's not something I'm really going to remember long-term and it would be nice to know how long the series is going to be. I'm not a huge fan of those 26 book long series and that's kind of how this is beginning to feel.

Like I said, it's really just a fine book. It exists and it was decent.

4 stars for the audiobook, 3 stars for the actual book.

This was interesting, but not as good as the first book, I felt as if I had already read this. The narrator of the audio book was great though!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Great narration, characters, and the plot. I was very excited to start this one. I missed the twists and turns from the first book. I enjoyed our mc and thought she was strong and ruthless. I do feel like the ending was a bit rushed, but that honestly could have just ben the pace at which I was finishing the book.

I really enjoyed the author’s first novel and the first installment in this series (except for the cliffhanger!!). So I was excited to get the ALC of The Butcher Game. The narrators did an excellent job, though in my mind, Jeremy could have sounded a little more sinister 😈 a very solid thriller that kept me entertained on my commutes and walks! 3.5⭐️

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Its an intense dark story where you're in the serial killers mind but also seeing things from a third persons POV. The cliffhanger ending was perfect, makes me excited for the next book. Honestly I flew through this didn't even realize how close to the end i was , i was just so interested in the story.

The second book in this series captivated me with its graphic content, yet I found myself fully engaged throughout. The alternating perspectives of the medical examiner and the killer were central to the story, creating a thrilling experience that kept me on the edge of my seat. The tension between these two characters was palpable, making every twist and turn even more impactful.

The cliffhanger at the end was tantalizing, leaving me eager for a third book. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds and what new elements will be introduced. This series has truly captured my attention, and I'm excited to dive deeper into this dark and compelling narrative.

Alaina Urquhart’s The Butcher Game, is a gripping plunge into psychological darkness.
Intricately weaving suspense and thrill as the protagonist races against time, unraveling a chilling game of cat and mouse with a cunning serial killer.
Fast-paced, twisty, and utterly captivating that blew my mind!

Audiobook: Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich did a fantastic job, really diving deep into the characters and making this an exceptional experience

Thank you Dreamscape, Imprint; Zando, and author Alaina Urquhart, for an ARC review copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was quite slow to get going. I really enjoyed the first book but this one just felt like it was missing something. I had to stop listening for a few days and read a different book before going back in and finishing it. It was overall a good thriller and there were a couple things I didn't see coming. The addition of Jeremy's childhood friend was a good layer to the story. It set up for book three at the end but it felt like there was a lot of loose ends. I'm not sure if I'll read book 3 or not.

*3.5 stars*

Thank you to Dreamscape Select and Zando and Netgalley for the ARC.

MAKE SURE U READ BOOK 1 THE BUTCHER AND THE WREN BEFORE U READ THIS BOOK CAUSE IT STARTS WHERE BOOK 1 LEFT OFF MAKE SURE U READ TWS BEFORE U READ THIS BOOK

Wren is a medical examiner wanting justice. Jeremy is a serial killer, and Wren is the one that got away, and Wren wants to take him out she wants justice for all his kills. The cat and mouse chase that Wren and Jeremy keep doing. Wren wants to hunt him down like he hunts his kills. Wren is tryin to recover from what Jeremy put her throu in the 1st book, but Jeremy, the Butcher of Bayou, isn't done with her yet, and this book is so good and keeps u wantin more page by page. It ends on a slight cliffhanger. I can't wait for book 3 ASAP.

**A Dark and Twisted Thriller That Falls Just Short**

"The Butcher’s Game" by Alaina Urquhart is a chilling thriller that keeps readers engaged with its gripping premise and unsettling atmosphere. The author’s attention to detail in crafting the crime scenes and psychological depth of the characters is commendable, adding an element of realism that fans of the genre will appreciate.

However, the pacing occasionally lags, and the plot becomes a bit predictable in parts, making it feel less suspenseful than it could have been. The protagonist’s motivations are sometimes unclear, which can make it difficult to fully connect with their journey. Despite these drawbacks, the novel still offers enough tension and twists to keep readers invested until the end.

Overall, "The Butcher’s Game" is a solid read for those who enjoy dark and disturbing thrillers, but it may not stand out in the crowded genre. **Three stars.**

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in this series and in order to understand this one, The Butcher and the Wren needs to be read first. I was not disappointed in this sequel in the least. Maybe by the way it ends with a to be continued, but you see it coming. The story is definitely ampt up in the best possible way. I loved the narration by both actors. They did a phenomenal job in continuing their roles. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

WOW! This is the ULTIMATE game of cat and mouse!

Dr. Wren Muller is determined to put her personal fears aside and make sure that "The Butcher" Jeremy Rose, is caught.

Jeremy is clever, fearless, deranged and barbaric. His obsession with Wren is clear in every one of his kills and it becomes more personal than ever towards the end of the book, with another big cliffhanger ending!

Dark, deadly and gripping! Fabulously narrated by Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich.

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Alaina Urquhart and Dreamscape for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Oh, my. This one kept me up WAAAYYY past my bedtime. A binge listen worthy read. The first was great and left quite the cliffhanger. This one is still unfinished (spoiler alert) and I can't wait for the next in the series. Wren is the best and watching her tackle her demons was something special. Jeremy is creepy in all the best ways and I loved everything about this title!

Thank you, NetGalley, for an audio copy of “The Butcher Game” by Alaina Urquhart for a review.

I enjoyed the short and sweet, cat and mouse vibe of The Butcher and the Wren, and was eager to get my hands on book 2. This had all the same elements I liked from the first one, but was able to build upon the story and characters further!

The narration was top notch. The tone of both the male and female narrators added to the eerie and suspenseful tone of novel.

Will we get Book 3? I hope so!

Audiobook ARC Review-- 4 ⭐
Publication Date- September 17 2024

Overall I enjoyed this story. The dual narrators are a nice touch--it made it a lot easier to follow the story as its from different perspectives. The range the narrators had for different characters was also top notch...great voice acting.

As for the story--it was a solid thriller. I went into this not realizing this was the second book in a series, however it didn't affect much. I easily listened to it as a standalone. Don't get me wrong--some things would be easier to understand having read the first book, but its not necessary.

Dr. Wren Muller and Detective Larue are on the hunt for The Butcher and are in a cat and mouse game with him trying to catch him. They know who he is, it's just tracking him down as he quickly evades them every chance he gets. Things get personal for Wren and I did not see the ending coming at all.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for this advanced audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

5 stars for Dr. Wren Muller and Jeremy Rose
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The audiobook was... everything. I have never felt so thrilled while listening to an audiobook before. With each chapter, I was left thinking, "Oh God, oh God, what's gonna happen next?!"

The Butcher Game takes place right after the first novel, The Butcher and the Wren, and follows the continued story of serial killer, Jeremy Rose, The Bayou Butcher and forensic pathologist, Dr. Wren Muller. I went back and immediately read the first novel, instead of jumping into this one, so that I could understand this book, and it made the story flow much better for me as a reader.

This book was just what I needed right now. We are heading into spooky season and it was THE perfect read to get me excited for Halloween! Listening to the audiobook made it even better! Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich did an amazing job! They really brought this book to life for me. I felt 100% as if I was actually there experiencing what Dr. Wren and Jeremy were experiencing. And I loved getting Jeremy's POV. It helps the reader to see both sides and to understand what is going on with both characters. I did not want to stop listening!

Ugh and I loved the mini-podcast at the end!!! It was amazing and hearing Alaina's thoughts and answers👀?! I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for the next book!!

Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Select and Zando for my ALC of The Butcher Game!!
