This is the second book in the butcher installment. I read the first and gave it five stars over a year ago now. I was hoping I’d remember enough from the previous plot to enjoy this one, and I did. I would recommend reading the first book for maximum enjoyment, but you could also read this as a stand alone. The book picked right back up where it ended and the depravity of the butcher doesn’t stop. I really enjoyed the pacing and was always wondering what would happen next. Wren is such an interesting character and we still don’t know everything about her. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next installation!

I was lucky enough to listen to this one on audiobook and boy, was it intensely enthralling! It was dark and disturbing and I loved everything about it. With dual POVs (one being the serial killer!) and the premise of another book in the works, this one is perfect for spooky season. I would read book one first though if you haven't already as this second book picks up where it left off.

I absolutely adored The Butcher and the Wren so i was extremely excited when The Butchers Game came out and i was not disappointed at all. Falling back into the cat and mouse game with Wren and Jeramy was exactly what i needed. Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich give an outstanding preformance once again. Especially the way Sophie makes you feel like an old friend with her comforting voice. I highly recommend this fabulous sequel and from the conclusion i hope we get one more. I will definitely be on the look out.

I loved this one! I liked it even more than The Butcher and the Wren. This one is quite the nail biter and I just devoured it. The end was a surprise and emotional. This book also ends on a bit of a cliff hanger and now I have to wait for book 3! Nooooo! (the down side of getting ARCs of series books) I loved the author interview with Urquhart's Morbid co-host at the end of the audiobook too. She says that writing these books is her favorite thing and I hope that she keeps it up because the books are getting even better! The audio narrators for this book were also great!

The Butcher game is everything you could want in a thriller. Jeremy is the embodiment of pure evil and he’s leaving a trail of brutality in his wake as he goes on the run. Jeremy is a known serial killer that manages to avoid capture while he’s executing a very calculated plan to draw out Wren, his ultimate “end game.” She has gotten away from him twice with her life and he refuses to let it happen a third time.

This is one of the most fast pace unputdownable thrillers I’ve ever read. I absolutely highly recommend this for all readers.

Wow just wow!!!! Luckily the book did end at a good spot in the story line but I have to know more.

To be fully honest I was hoping for a duology just because my heart craves a conclusion. Preferably with Jeremy’s brutal demise….

This one leaves off where we ended in book one but travels outside of Louisiana up to Massachusetts which is also a great backdrop to some creepy shit. I love that these books are dual pov and has the serial killers pov-just adds a layer of scary that makes the books impossible to put down.

It’s one of those books that when you finish you NEED to find someone that has read it so you can scream about things together.

I read the first book in one sitting - so I definitely was eager to read this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Select I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook of this.
Both narrators were good and kept me engaged as this story unfolded. The beginning started out a tad slowly and then builds until suddenly I was flying through the ending. I feel slightly torn because I always want the good to "win" in the end and the first book ends unfinished and then you get book two and you go the entire story hoping for justice and vindication and there's some resolve but not... quite... does that mean I hated it? No. But I do feel slightly conflicted. I wasn't super fond of the gruesome scenes - It just doesn't excite me (which I think is a good thing) but it does really churn your stomach and keep you hoping they can catch this butcher guy.
I'm rounding up my 3.5 stars.

I was super excited to get approved for this audiobook. I loved the first book in this series. This one wasn’t quite as exciting as the first one but I still liked it and finished it in one day. I love the narrators and am super happy they are the same as the ones from the first book.
I love Wren’s character. I love the writing style and the inside into being a medical examiner. I hope there are more books in this series.
I’ve always listened to the authors podcasts so I knew her books would be great. She’s been a great addition to the thriller genre and after listening to her first book it was hard to believe she was a debut author.

I was looking forward to this sequel, but unfortunately did not find it as good as the original. I found the first half to be very slow, and the second half to be much more engaging. The narration was great as always. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this opportunity.

This is book 2 in the Dr Wren Muller series and its fantastic! While you can read this as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read book 1 first to get the full effect. Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off.

Serial murderer Jeremy Rose is on the run, making his way cross-country after escaping capture in Louisiana. Meanwhile, medical examiner Dr Wren Muller is on leave trying to heal and pulled back into hunting the killer.

This book definitely pulls you in right from the start and is fast paced! I think its almost better than the first book. The writing is fantastic, the characters realistic and there are so many plots and themes woven intricately throughout the story. The ending is another shocking cliffhanger!

Looking forward to book #3!!!

This was a 3.5/5⭐️ for me.

I really enjoyed the first book, so I was anxious to see where the author would take Wren and Jeremy’s story! It picks up right where the first book left off, with Jeremy on the run and Wren, et al. chasing after him.

Once we were introduced to Jeremy’s childhood friend, whom he first kills with, the rest of the story seemed predictable. I didn’t like it as well as the first one, since the killing patterns are pretty predictable at this point.

Overall, however, it was a quick enjoyable listen for those who like true crime or psychological thriller type books!

The Bayou Butcher returns for a second outing. He may be on the run trying to escape capture, but he has unfinished business to settle with medical examiner, Wren Mullen, the only victim ever to escape him. She’s exhausted and heartsick, but she knows the only way through this is to find Jeremy Rose and end his reign of terror once and for all. Not for the faint of heart, parts of this book are pretty gruesome

🎧 Book Review 🎧 This one was tough to wait for but so worth it! If you read the first novel, then you are already invested in the characters and the storyline and this book is absolutely as gripping as The Butcher and the Wren. Alaina Urquhart beautifully transports the reader to New Orleans, a city I miss calling home, in a flawlessly delightful and vibrant tone, again bringing the Big Easy to life in the pages of The Butcher Game. And while I cannot speak to her accuracy when writing in the mind of a serial killer, a chill resonates throughout the book as the hunt for The Bayou Butcher continues. Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich bring this atmospheric book to life, creating the most suspenseful game of cat and mouse that the reader simply will not be able to put down. And while I am not one for patiently waiting again, I am so happy to watch this nail biting series continue to unfold!

Despite not having read the first book in this series, I did enjoy this one. It was pretty fast paced, engaging and entertaining. I do wish I would have read the first book only to have been more invested in the characters but this is still really well done and you can surmise what happened in the initial story. Books about serial killers will always be on the top of my TBR and if you are like me, this one will be a great read for you!

The audiobook narration by Sophie Amoss and Joe Knezevich is done well.
