Lauren Layne's books are always a reliable romance fix, and while this book ticks all the boxes, it was missing a bit of sizzle for me. I was hoping for a bit more chemistry and a certain type of spark between Sophie and Gray, but it missed the mark for me a bit. But overall, this is a sweet romance, even if it leaves a little to be desired.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

This book was requested when I was young and requested more books than I could possibly read. Sadly, I no longer have access to this book and my tastes have changed. Thus I will not be able to give feedback on this title.

I like this one!

It was a well balanced read - sweet and yes ! Steamy too! Plus , it’s enemies to lovers troupe - which happens to be my preference.

So.. what’s not to love?

ARC provided by NetGalley for an Honest Review
This was a cute read featuring total opposites and enemies to lovers coming together. The two MCs could not be more different from one another if they tried. I enjoyed the story but I didn’t get much chemistry between them aside from their sexual attraction. I would have enjoyed more scenes with them actually as a couple rather than the constant push and pull which is what we get throughout the book. After a horrible first meeting where the hero highly misjudges and verbally disrespects the heroine, the two meet again weeks later when he shows up as her sisters date to family dinner. The relationship between the hero and the heroines sister wasn’t a big drag in the book but it was an unnecessary complication. They too had little chemistry and while it’s a small part of the book and the two had never even slept together or shared an iota of sexual attraction I was just not a fan of this.

I personally connected a lot with the heroine. She’s overly fun and outgoing but also internally scarred by never living up to the standards of others. She doesn’t want or need a high paying respectable job to be happy yet everyone in her life, family included, can’t help but look down on her and constantly belittle her. I’m glad throughout the course of the book she was able to build herself up and find out what makes her happy. I think if the heroine did not end up working as the heroes secretary the two never would have found themselves together. The hero is kind of a pretentious jackass and has such high standards it’s ridiculous, guess you can say-I never liked him. He’s just so cold and unmovable, every smile was rare and I feel like in the end, the giant stick up his ass was only partially removed. All because of an ex who broke his heart and also surprisingly looked like a clone of the heroine. There was a lot more story to these two being together and I feel like we’re missing the whole evolution of them as the epilogue came too fast in my opinion.

The story is also told with a few chapters here and there in her sisters POV, a nice intro to her book which is up next in the series. While I’m intrigued I gotta say the angst and immaturity will undoubtably be increased in her book, there’s a reason she was dating Gray (the hero) and it was not for his looks but because of the boxes he checked off in her mental checklist of appropriateness. I hate the push and pull of characters who just can’t admit their feelings or speak the truth. If you want to be taken seriously and respected like the persona you put on, you have to live up to it. This book was almost there but I wanted a bit more from the MCs together. Still made for a cute read.

While I enjoyed this book I didn't love it. I found Sophie to be kind of annoying and Gray was a little too stoic for me. Despite that it was a cute story that was a quick read.

I wouldn't say I wouldn't recommend it, but it wasn't for me.

I feel terrible. I downloaded this book years ago and completely forgot about it! I finally read it last night and I can totally relate to both Brynn and Sophie and I just want all the things for both of them. I'm exited to read the next book in the series and learn more about Will. As for Sophie and Grey's story. I love how we get to know them over the course of the book and all their bickering just makes it so normal! This isn't the type of book where they fall in love on day one and I love that about it but it seems really drawn out at times and just made me feel like I was forcing myself to finish it.

I expected so much more from the synopsis of this story but just found it to be an "okay" read. Wasn't bad but it certainly didn't rock my world either if ya know what I mean. The characters were just I can't put my finger on it like they were more being thrown together and they must play the part they were given role. The just didn't mesh for me and when they did begin to even resemble a "couple" was the end of the book? It was alright but certainly not great.

I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.

Girl mistakenly taken for a hooker, and a Stick in the mud guy trapped in a elevator in Vegas....dislike at first sight. Of course they are going to meet up at home. This was a so-so read for me. I started this book ages ago, and put it down. I thought there would be more Vegas in the plot, more heat...I was wrong. This book was definitely no for me.

Sorry I maybe close to double Sophie's age but there is not a single man in the whole world who will make me feel bad about wearing thigh-high boots. Granted I can't wear them often because of a very bad knee break but I loved them for years and I will always love them. Any women who thinks a man shoudl determine who they dress needs their head examined!

I had a hard time finishing this book. I gave up a while ago and haven't come back to it until now. I aologize for not giving a proper review, but this title didn't entice me to read a substantial part of the book so I feel as though a review would be premature, especially since this was so long ago.

Best of luck,

TKB
