OK, I've caved, and finally forgiven you for submitting an incomplete book for netgalley reviewers.

Certainly an interesting read, this looks at a pair of vampiresses in Malaysia and surrounding countries, who don't realise the perils to them that a zombie infestation might cause until it's too late. At first they find the zombies a matter of initial interest – well, you need something new to check up on when you're everlasting – and then they delight in the free pass it gives them to hack and slash without worry of discovery or retribution. But when the freewheeling nights of killing humans that can't care what's killing them because there are so many zombies doing just that are over, then well…

I can see some readers frustrated by the approach here – a wordy narration from one of the vampires, barely interrupted by dialogue from the scenes we witness. The second issue has a lot too much to say about politics, the third seems to be causing problems for itself in the long run by just yacking about the character of the 'Renfield', or human assistant, lackey or whatever. But even when that is happening the building crisis is ever-present as more and more of the vampires' prey is zombified and therefore no longer edible.

This counts as a good vampire story – archly telling us where other books got it wrong – and also a twist on the whole concept, as they realise they need to fight to keep us humans alive. It is as I say verbose, but not to the extent that pages look too wordy, and the art on this is excellent around the voice-over boxes. I liked it – four stars.
