Kim's promise is a great read, it centres on Prince who is 15 years old. Kim is tasked with saving his dying mother. This novel features a lot of fantasy and a curse!
The characters are all created really well especially Kim, he is a noble and kind prince. The story is very character driven and I really enjoyed that aspect. The storyline played out really well and the chapters just flowed. The writing captured and pulled the reader in from the beginning creating an eagerness to find out the overall outcome.
Kim's Promise is full of adventures and overcoming obstacles, it's a great fantasy character led story.
My promise, that this fairytale story of quest, truth, and love will gladden everyone’s heart. A book for young readers and those that are young at heart. So pick it up and open the pages, but don’t expect to stop until you reach the end. Thank you to Susan Brandt, LiterallyPR, Brown Dig Books and NetGalley for the ARC. Review for 'Kim's Promise' by Susan Brandt
This absolutely fantastic book may be aimed at children and young adults with Amazon giving it a reading age of 12-18 but, sadly, at the age of 37 I am no longer classed as a young adult but I absolutely loved it!! I would read it to my 11 year old son Malaki and we would both take turn reading a chapter each. The first thing I want to say is a HUGE congratulations to the author Susan for thoughtfully including a map at the beginning of the book . Myself and Malaki thought this was a very good and helpful idea and we kept referring back to it so Thank you for that. I wish more authors would include maps in young adult books as we always enjoy going back and forth to look at them to see where the protagonist has travelled to and from. In this adventurous book Susan transports the reader to to the ancient Koremine Castle in the hills of Strela where a kitchen boy overhears a terrible argument and a secret curse from the royal family. The kitchen boy is accused of being a spy and the king sends his soldiers out to capture him after he runs away. Susan then takes us years into the future where Prince Kim makes a promise to his Mum who is dying that he will find the kitchen boy himself. Kim is just 15 years old butt is determined in his commitment to the promise he made to his Mum. Kim travels in disguise and needs to evade capture by the soldiers that his Father and the King have sent to stop him. Kim ends up attacked and left for dead by bandits but thankfully discovers a wise old man who is living on the mountains and later a herbalist who help him on his mission to find the missing boy. While Kim is also determined to help his childhood sweetheart Princess Sagesse who has been affected by the curse and to do so before her Mother marries her off to another man. Can Kim find the kitchen boy and save the Kingdom? Can the curse be lifted before it is too late for Princess Sagesse? Well, you will just have to grab this book to find out for ourselves and I guarantee that you and/or your child will not regret it!!! With an action packed storyline rammed with adventure, danger, curses, kindness, royalty, travelling, survival, determination, fear, disaster and everything you could ask for and more in a page turning book what are you waiting for? Susan really does do a fantastic job of captivating the readers attention and uses such vivid and evocative descriptions that the readers can see everything come to life in front of their eyes as they turn the pages. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced and fascinating action packed read!! Malaki loved listening to and reading this book with me and we were both wishing Prince Kim on and wanting him to find the kitchen boy. We were both rooting for him from the start and could feel the fear and hope that Kin was feeling throughout the pages. The plan was to read 3 or 4 chapters a day together but we ended up reading the whole book in two days as Malaki kept picking it up through the days as did I as we both really wanted to know what was going to happen next!! The characters are all well developed, intriguing and thanks to Susan's brilliant descriptions they come to life along with the scenery and settings and leaves your heart racing along with Kim on his quest. Malaki and myself really enjoyed the storyline which we devoured in a couple of days. However, if it had been reading it on my own I would have read it in one sitting of several hours as I was thoroughly addicted and invested in not just Prince Kim but also the incredible and fantastic storyline and adventures that Kim and the rest of the characters go on!
Congratulations Susan Brandt on writing an absolutely absolutely fantastic, addictive and page turning book filled with drama and adventure!! Here is to your next success that we are all looking forward to seeing and reading!🥂
Overall a fantastically adventurous and action packed read that adults and children will love alike!
