I received this audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book so much!! We follow Leovander Loveage who is a sorcerer from a predominant family finishing his final year of schooling. Loveage tends to use small magics and charms. he also has a fondness for music. He does not use grandiose magic like his nemesis, Sebastian Grimm. Grimm is the son of a farmer and is working hard to secure his place among the elite houses. When Loveage and Grimm are paired up for a class, they accidently use forbidden magic. They have to work together to find a reversal spell before it's too late.
I love everything about this book. The plot is fast paced, but we also take time for a lot of character development. I will 100% be picking up the next book.

I think this falls into the category of "too cozy". It was just too slow to keep my interest. I need a happy medium for pacing and this wasn't it unfortunately.

Leo Loveage is a scriver who can't do anything bigger than a cantrip, and he's fine with that. Sebastian Grim is a caster with huge ambitions and no sense of humor. They are like oil and water, so naturally in their last (and most important) year of school, they're paired up to work together. Unfortunately, one of their first spells goes terribly wrong, leaving them tied together in the worst possible way, and they set off to find a mythical sorcerer in the dangerous wilds who can hopefully break the curse.
This enemies-to-lovers romantasy is cute. I liked the magic system, especially. Some people can create spells, some people can cast them. That duality made things interesting. The difference between grand magic and cantrips was a little hard to grasp, but that was okay. Some of the big twists were not subtle, but were still satisfying. The romance was a little bit bland, but ultimately nice, and I would love to see Grim's perspective going forward. Mystery man. At times, he felt like a wet blanket, but I think that was partially because Leo was such a character of a narrator. The magical wilds were an interesting setting. I'll be keeping an eye out for the next one.

I loved all of this. I love a romantasy with a unique magic structure. Like, yes! Amazing! Thank you for not giving me the same old elemental magics I think it just adds so much more to the realm.

A very cozy, whimsical queer romantic fantasy following rival sorcerers who are bound together by a curse they are searching to break.
This story was very fun to follow along with these two characters, endearing side characters and a very fun quest!

This was FANTASTIC. It has all my favorite elements - grumpy x sunshine (but maybe less sunshine and more casually apathetic rich boy who really cares deep down), an academic setting, then a magical romp through the forest, an isolated witch in the forest who is living for herself and no one else, and dangerous monsties????? I loved this so much and I need more

I read the book, and immediately wanted to re-read--the audiobook was absolutely perfect. Having already read the book, I was nervous the narrator wouldn't quite live up to the Leovander in my head, but he was perfect. Spot-on; lighthearted, teasing, at times caustic and scared, it was all done well. Love this book, and LOVE this audiobook. Thank you, NetGalley!

I REALLY liked this but I waited too long to review so when I inevitably do a reread before reading the sequel, I'll give a better review, probably. All I can say is it's super funny and a genuinely fun read and I look forward to the next book.

So mad I took as long as I did to actually start this book, because it is so good. It’s a crime that there’s no book 2 yet, because I think I might be high key obsessed with this.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
If you're searching for a cozy fantasy romance that blends magical mischief, slow-burn chemistry, and heartfelt adventure, look no further than Sorcery and Small Magics! Maiga Doocy crafts a whimsical world filled with charm and humour, making it impossible not to fall in love with her characters and their story.
Leovander Loveage is a carefree sorcerer-musician whose reluctance to wield powerful magic makes him an unlikely hero. Enter Sebastian Grimm, his stern and no-nonsense rival. When a magical bond ties them together, the two must navigate the Unquiet Wood to break the spell, all while grappling with personal growth and undeniable attraction.
Ciaran Saward’s narration elevates this audiobook, bringing Leo’s playful spirit and Grimm’s gruff demeanour vividly to life. His performance captures the wit and emotional depth of the story, making it a fantastic listening experience.
“Magic, like music, does not always need to be explained. It is enough that it exists.”

I absolutely adored this novel. The narrator for the audiobook was perfect and the story itself was exactly what I was needing. I fell in love with messy Leo's character and the ending left me wanting more. So when is the next book coming out? I can't wait to continue Leo and Grimm's story. Both of them are adorable idiots and I can't wait to see the pay off in the end.

I really enjoyed this book! I thought both main characters were compelling and interesting to follow. The magic system was a lot different from anything I have previously read too which I really enjoyed! The difference between the types of magicians as well was very unique! I loved all the small spells they were casting on random parts of their bodies 🤣.
My only wish was for the ending to be a bit less abrupt. I felt little satisfaction and was definitely craving a lot more! Overall I really enjoyed it and will be reading the second one!

This book is a little tricky for me because the way the magic plot and the romance plot worked together kinda gave me the ick. Like how will they ever know what was there because of the magic. I'm not a fan of that.
But the way misic and magic were intertwined in this book was so interesting.
Also, the magic system was different but they way the lines were blurred between the two types of magicians was a little confusing. It felt like, magic has all these rules but sometimes they don't matter...
The narration of the audiobook was well done and entertaining.
Overall a 3.74 in my opinion.

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

What a lovely surprise this exceptional work of cozy fantasy was!
In terms of atmosphere and tone, this is about as good as it gets if you like light magic and cozy fantasy that still deals with some more sophisticated themes.
There’s excellent but subtle humor here too, and plenty of action for those worried about pacing. I loved the magic system used here. It’s unique without getting too wonky or overly complex, but mostly it’s just a lovely story.
The protagonist is incredibly easy to root for, though not too one-dimensional, and I loved the circumstances that sent him on what is in effect a spin on the hero’s quest.
Points also for creating a relationship between characters that amounts to a sweet love story that you want to root for without ever devolving into romance novel stuff or schlocky emotional manipulation.
I’m so pleased to know that this will be a continuing series. Looking forward to spending more time in this world.

This was an excellent whimsical and cozy fantasy. I think this is a delightful read for cozy fantasy readers and folks new to the genre alike.
In particular, I thought the audiobook narration was particularly well done. I don't know how to better explain this, but the voices perfectly embodied the character's personality and attitudes. It felt like like listening to a movie.

This was a fun read/listen, and it got me out of a reading slump.
We follow Leovander and Sebastian as they try to find a way to undo a curse that was brought to life when they had to work together. They encounter fantastical creatures, bandits, and unstable magic as they try to find a sorcerer to undo the curse.
I enjoyed the storytelling, the plot was simple and flowed well. The world building was good, and it wasn't too hard to understand. The banter was cute, and the characters kept me entertained (especially Leovander).
Give this one a try if you're looking for something entertaining and not too heavy.

Meh. It was fine. The story was fine. It was better once the leads headed into the forest, but the lead up took too long and it read too much like some sort of Harry Potter fanfiction for me to really get into it. I did like the ending, and I would be more interested in the story of the forest and the beasts there and the magical music casting than I am in anything else that happened with this story.

Didn't vibe with this narration, but the plot made up for it! I enjoyed the chemistry with the characters and want to read more set in this world!
