I read this book with my daughter. We enjoyed learning how Yasmin celebrates her 100th day of school. She is excited and how creative she was for her celebration. Yasmin celebrates her great-grandfather by wearing his photo on her t-shirt. This started our conversation on how to celebrate our 100th day of school coming next year.
Thank you Picture Window Books (Capstone) for the ARC through Netgalley.

I really enjoyed this picture book! It gives h the e history and fun facts of the 100th day celebration and what happened on the 100th day! I love how Yasmin is searching for the perfect costume for the celebration! Reminds me of my daughter of always in need to find the perfect outfit for a particular holiday! And overall, educational!
Delightful illustrations accompany the story of a young girl’s 100th day of school. Fun facts about 100th day and the number 100 and a puzzle-making activity round out the book.
Concept is nice to show the facts from the city of California that some good teacher back then in 1979 started to celebrate the 100 days of initial learning of children in school to make them more enthusiastic about education. I liked the way Author express a child's excitement to celebrate her first 100 days of learning at her school.
I suggest we should start doing this in India also, as currently this is not in run here in schools. However, there are many more interactive and intriguing activities which make them learn way better but I say, this will be an adventure and add-on activity to make them gather their learning and prepare for future course of actions too.
In addition, what I found lacking or needing corrections is on first hand, where Yasmin's teacher announced that “To celebrate, I brought one hundred treats! Happy 100th Day of School!”, there the illustrations required to show more children as the treat is on large level, an equal celebration. Secondly, why Yasmin was at her Maternal Grandparents house while being at school and living with her parents there too? Why not paternal grandparents shown as per society standards? Children observe such little things and learn that way only.
Apart from this all, the 'Did you know?' and 'Glossary' section were surely help young readers to learn things. Illustrations were also vibrant, colorful and worth appreciation. I appraise Debby more than Saadia as she brought up those all required emotions and expressions so lively with her art.
For me it is 4.0/5.0
Super cute book, and surprisingly educational! This book is absolutely perfect as a first chapter book for kids. It's written really well and is nicely organized, with a clear plot. Additionally, I really liked all of the activities/fun facts/extra material at the end of the book. This allows kids to learn from this book, engage with its characters, and apply things from the book to their own lives, which is perfect in helping the learning process. As for the illustrations, they were detailed and colorful, and accurately captured the wonder and excitement of Yasmin's story, which will make readers excited for their own 100th day of school. Lastly, I admired Yasmin's creativity in this story, and I know that she will inspire young readers to be creative as well.
Bravo!
So cute! I remember one time we celebrated the 100th day of school in kindergarten, and I wore a tshirt with 100 stamps on it. Perfect book to go along with 100th day of school celebrations!
I didn't get to celebrate the 100th day of school when I was young, but it's such a good idea and seems like so much fun. Celebrating in the middle of the school year helps kids see their accomplishments. This book is really cute, with bright pictures, and I enjoyed how Jasmin came up with so many ideas for 100 things. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
I received an electronic ARC from Capstone through NetGalley.
I'm excited for this new series with Yasmin.
In this first book, she celebrates 100 days of school. Readers see her work math to show some of the ways number can add up to 100. Then, we see her struggle with a costume idea for the 100th Day Parade. Her family offers ideas and she figures out what to make with help from her Nani. Her classmates love her costume and the information she shares about her heritage. The illustrations are brightly colored and offer support for the text. An easy read for lower to mid-elementary readers.
Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
I love the fact that this book has color representation. This is a great book for kids starting school! I loved the illustrations as well!
What a cute informative read. I read it to my son and he was captivated with the beautiful pictures and the creative her and her class mates dressed up for the 100th day of school. The perfect children's read.
Such an adorable read! I remember being very excited for the 100th day when I was in school and this was a great read. I also appreciate the end of the book where readers learn some facts and new words! I highly recommend this book to any teachers!
The 100th day of school is always a big deal in early elementary. The 100th Day of School with Yasmin looks at celebrating that day, but also uses it as an opportunity to show how it's important to learn about our family history. The illustrations kept my kiddo engaged and he is very excited for when he will hit his 100th day of school. The facts and activities at the end were an added bonus.
Thanks to Capstone and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
I have seen a million photos on social media about kids celebrating 100 days of school. This year my first grader will celebrate it for the first time. He was excited to read about it in this book.
The pictures were colorful and held his attention. Most of the words are easy enough for a first grader to read . He did need some help with the cultural terms but the glossary in the back helped understand what they meant.
He really got excited to read all the interesting facts about the day. This book is a must read for any parent or child getting ready to celebrate the 100th day of school.
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
My youngest granddaughter and I have read all the Yasmin books, so it was exciting to read the start of this new spin-off series. We look forward to reading the upcoming books about other celebrations. These books are great for beginner readers who are anxious to get started on chapter books. This one in particular even led to doing some impromptu math problems about numbers that add up to 100. It was also fun thinking up possible costumes for 100th Day celebrations. Thanks to NetGalley, Capston and the author for an advance copy to review.
I read this book to my daughter who is 4 years old and it was PERFECT! We picked this book because I wanted to prepare her for the 100th day of school coming up in the next few months. This book is very relatable to school aged children getting ready to prepare for the 100th day of school celebration.
100th Day of School for Yasmin is a wonderful beginner’s chapter book for early readers. Yasmin’s determination and joy in coming up with a creative costume for the 100th day of school is a great way to encourage other kids to do the same. I remember my own 100 days celebration while I was growing up was so fun to share with classmates! This is a wonderful and enjoyable multicultural read, highly recommended!
First, many thanks to Saadia Faruqi, the author, Debby Rahmalia the artist, Picture Window Books, and NetGalley for the privilege of being able to read and review this cute children's picture/early chapter book. I will share my review to Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble upon release.
This is a short early chapter reading book for kids aged 5-7, focusing on the main character of Yasmin, a girl who is celebrating the 100th day of school with her classmates. There is some good Muslim representation in this book, with some terms that children who are familiar with will likely appreciate seeing. The illustratings are cute and show several members of Yasmin's family and class, in different situations like doing a puzzle or playing on the playground. Yasmin's teacher seems like a very nice person and enjoys celebrating with the children, which kids will think is fun.
By the end, Yasmin figures out how to share her happiness for her hard work in her own way, along with her classmates. There is a list of facts about the 100th day of school after the story, as well as a glossary of some of the terms used that all children may not be familiar with. These provide great opportunites for learning and discussions that I could see being great for a classroom setting. The cover is cute and gives a good tonal setting for the book overall. There is even directions for a short craft at the end! I think all kids will find something about this book to enjoy!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
I love the Yasmin series. They are great beginner chapter books. Yasmin needs to come up with an idea to celebrate 100 days of school. With the help of her family she comes up with a few idea. A cute story with wonderful representation.
Thank you so much to Capstone/ Picture Windows Books and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Yasmin is celebrating the 100th day of school and is so excited she wants a really nice costume for the parade at school, but finding something is harder than she thought.
I liked how excited Yasmin was to celebrate, she kept looking and thinking of so many different ideas that maybe she could have had 100 of it on her clothes but they all seemed impossible. I really enjoyed how her family were all there to help give her ideas to help her see what she could do.
This was a very adorable story. I knew nothing about this particular celebration at schools, but it was so interesting to learn, I really liked how they help celebrate and encourage the education by doing this, it’s very sweet.
I really liked Yasmin and her sweet family, I also loved that her friends were all really creative with their costumes too. The illustrations were adorable within this book, I loved all the facts and activities at the end, there is so much extra stuff for children to do.
Very cute, very easy to read book about what it is like to celebrate 100th day of school.
Yasmin is in 2nd grade, and is looking forward to celebrating the 100th day of school. She keeps tyring to think of ways to represent 100. Her friends do things like glue 100 gumballs on their hat, and another gets a necklace that has 100 beads.
But Yasmin celebrates her great-grandfather who fought in, what we presume, was WWII, by wearing his photo on her t-shirt.
So, we get both the celebrating family, as well as celebrating 100th day, all rolled into one.
Easy way to introduce multicultural ideas into young readers minds. There is even information at the end of the book that talks about more things we should know both the number 100 and well as what 100th Day of school is all about.
This book is going to be part of a series of Holiday and Celebrations with Yasmin.
