I love this book! As someone who loves music, it makes my heart happy to see a book that gives an introduction to musical terminology, crafted perfectly for young readers. Key terms are mentioned and defined early on, without detracting from the story with sidenotes or definitions. Additionally, this book shows the magic that can come with being in a band, which I adored! Another great thing was the author included discussion questions at the back of the book, which allows this story to have an impact even after readers finish this book. I do have one small critique, however. I would have liked to see some more defined problem-solving skills from the characters. Right now, it seems like the band changes the lights to a fun color and all of their problems go away, making them sound great again. I think that adding a layer of problem-solving would be beneficial, and make this book even better.
Overall, though, I really liked this book!
Thank you to Netgalley and Capstone Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book for my students. This is a cute story that involves creating a band. I loved the onomatopoeia aspects and lush color scheme. For me personally, this would be a great starter chapter book for my students, and I am curious to read more. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars
Very cool picture book about music! I mean what kid wouldn’t love this! lol! I enjoyed the band finding each other, working through the kinks of having a bad session to finding their rhythm and style to their own band name and what it represents! At the end of the book it shows all the bands that have names that represent the letter of their first name! And pretty much they’ve all been successful! Love the diversity of kids and the different musical instruments too!
This is a very early chapter book about two bands joining together to be one. However, everyone has a different style, and they can’t decide which one works best. Sometimes they decide wrong. Sometimes they decide right. And after lots of practice, they name themselves “Young Solz”. ANd then the author talks about what is in a name.
There is also a section where questions are asked about this story which seems to simple on the surface. Questions like “It’s easy to get frustrated when things aren’t going well. Zeedee and Lewis find different ways to deal with their feelings during the story.”
Apparently this is the start of a series about the band.
It is a hilo book, so it has something of interest to older kids, but it written simply enough that slow readers can pick up on it.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review. This book will be coming out the 1st of January 2025.
