This series, these books are everything. They have everything that a romantasy girlie could as for. You want a shadow daddy? I give you Reven, well, he’s a little young for me to call shadow daddy but you get the point. If he was older I might even love him more than Rhysand, I said what I said.
Meren is so relatable, she just wants to be accepted and known for who she is and not for the life that was decided for her. She has grown into such a strong and courageous leader and it has been a pleasure to read her journey.
This story is filled with so many twists and turns and heart wrenching moments, but I wouldn’t change a moment of it.

Thank you to Entanged publishing for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review,
WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK!!! This book had me feeling all sorts of emotions while reading it. I adored it so much! What a great third book in a series!
Tension hits a high-note as it swaddles with heart-break, angst, and everything needed to mold an epic tale with richness flowing in every direction and more.
This third book in the series takes off from the ending of book two with a little time gap, meeting the characters as they've begun to settle, more or less depending on the situation, into their last met state. It takes a little bit to get into the flow of things, not due to the writing...that jumps right in...but simply because there are such rich arcs and while the characters have slid in after the last happenings, the reader needs to join them first. But it doesn't take long, and after that, it's non-stop amazement the entire way through.
If the other two books held tension (and they did), this one manages to notch things up again and promises situations which are over-the-top impossible. It draws the reader to the edge of their seats, makes it clear that not everything can run well, packs in more violence, higher stakes, and so much more heart break than the first two books did. It's a well-crafted weave with everything needed to create that epic atmosphere and plot, which invites to get lost in. With rough corners and edges galore. This makes it not only a read for the upper end of YA, but also adults will enjoy the adventure. Still, it tippy-toes enough to stay balanced on that YA line from the content side...although it is a tight line.
There is frustration on the romance end as the characters suffer through the amnesia string, and that one is harsh. The ending comes with surprise and holds all the weight to do the tale justice. Don't expect warm fuzzies, though. There are a few frayed ends on some plot strings, which stay open, but this doesn't frustrate and slides right in to the atmosphere.
Simply said, this is a well-woven ending to an grabbing series.
Thank you to Entangled and NetGalley for the advance listener copy of The Shadows Rule All!
This is the final installment in the Dominions trilogy and it is a great end to the series! Meren and the gang are back together and working to defeat Eidolon and release the queens from their necklaces. But not all of the friends can be trusted, especially not Meren herself as it is impossible to tell how much the shadows trapped within her are reporting back to Eidolon. Can Meren, Reven, and company save the Dominions? Can they survive trying?
I really enjoyed this series. I've said it in every review but the world building is just INCREDIBLE! The magic is so interesting and unique; I just love it so much. I wish Meren would get out of her own head so much. Her constant agonizing over her every decision has made me knock a star off each book. I read the first book with my eyes and listened to the last two and I think it is something that I noticed and was annoyed by more with the audio so it may be a "me" issue to a certain extent. I also feel like Reven is super boring and the romance is meh in the series. But those are really my only two complaints. It is a gripping fantasy and I can't wait to read more of Abigail Owen's books!
Rating: 5/5
I received an eARC & audio for my honest opinion.
WOW, this is the way that you end a trilogy. I have been here for all the books, and I can say that I loved that the author was able to wrap up everything nicely, but not only that you will find the action scene that we have all been craving to happen. I enjoyed the plot, and it was different from the other books, but in a good way for me. It is a little darker, but if you have read the first two you will understand why it's darker, we get more information about Eidolon and why he is the way he is. I loved that we got to see more with Meren and Reven relationship in a different way and to truly understand their love for each other, I loved the twists that Owen took in the plot as well (if left me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next), it has a lot of emotions throughout the book from different characters, the paranormal creatures were right out of an mythology and I was drinking them all in.
This book picks up right where book 2 left off but a few months later, you get to see how they’re handling everything that happened at the ending of that book, and you will see the goals that they planned for the next steps in taking back their kingdom from an evil man. I really enjoyed getting to see the characters come together more but at the same time you will see the spaces that they have to make with certain characters ( I wont say more because I don’t want to spoil anything), I liked the character growth that most of the characters made in this last book and I think it was more that they were understanding themselves more and knew what they wanted and what was right when fighting. You will find loyal friends, mystery, secrets, betrayals, funny moments and heartbreaking ones, but overall, you see the love that all these friends have for each other and their country.
For me it was Meren and Revens relationship that really got tested in this book, you will understand what I mean when you pick up this book. Their love for each other was something so beautiful, but at the same time you can see that it might just fall right out of their hands if they’re not careful. I loved all the characters in the book/books but for me it was Meren and her connections to her friends that really help draw this group together… okay I guess with Reven too lol.
I was able to receive the audio for this book as well and I loved that the narrator was able to get to picture the action scenes in my head and seeing them being played out and I know a lot of that has to do with Owens attention to details but it also because of the way the narrator was telling the story with her emotions that really brought it out. I would read a book by this narrator again and I would recommend this book and audio to everyone.
I want to thank NetGalley and Entangled for the opportunity to review this book.
The Shadows Rule All is an amazing conclusion to the Dominions trilogy! This book is full of action, longing, and challenges.
Normally, I don’t like the amnesia trope. It definitely still isn’t a favorite of mine, but Owen does an excellent job with the execution of it. Meren and Reven’s relationship is written so beautifully.
Most characters have a larger role in this book and I absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed how some characters made mistakes and plans went wrong. Nothing was made easy for them. The romance never overshadowed the plot, which I enjoyed.
Overall, there was angst, betrayal, chaos, and creatures. Abigail Owen has become a favorite author of mine and cannot wait to read more of her work. Thank you Entangled Teen for the opportunity to read! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I absolutely devoured this conclusion to a trilogy that has kept me desperately on edge. If frank this book is much darker and at times it was difficult to understand how the author could make the couple's untenable situation actually resolve itself. Meren has been through so much for her sister and her people but never falters and yet the man she loves having no memory of her absolutely destroys her at times. There is loss and betrayal here that was shocking but that's the beauty of this authors work as she's truly a gifted storyteller and even though there is an ending I am happy with I am still left wanting to read more.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I think this review will be difficult for me to write because this book is turning out to be my biggest heartbreak. To say I was excited about The Shadows Rule all is un understatement because I was in love with Meren and Reven's character and the stunning chemistry between them.
Unfortunately, the final book lacked that magic we craved from the previous books.
The plot felt a bit rushed and heavily concentrated on our gang jumping from quest to quest, and the character development and the relationship between them was lacking. The most painful to witness was how shallow and rushed felt the resolution of Cain and Meren's relationship with one moment that wasn't even clear-cut from Meren and felt like she continued to strung him along until the end, and it broke my heart for him because he deserved better! Moreover, the deaths of a lot of our favorite characters—Tziah, Cain etc. felt a matter-of-factly and rushed too in favor of action and not the heartbreaking farewell they deserved.
Somehow, for me, the characters of Scoria and Allusia felt identical and a déjà vu with their interaction with Meren.
And that leads us to the final grand event that, in my opinion, was all over the place and at times confusing with dumping so many places, names, and characters that at the end you give up making sense and just follow the current.
Sadly, if it wasn't one of my most anticipated reads I think I would've DNF'd that book, but because of my enormous love for the previous books I wanted to see the en of the story of Meren and Reven .
I really liked this one! I have been a fan of this series from the beginning so I was very excited to dive into this book and see how the trilogy would wrap up. I feel like I have been through a lot with this group of characters at this point and just want things to work out for them. I found this novel to be a fitting and exciting end to the trilogy.
I wasn’t sure how Reven and Meren would work things out. Things look rather dire at the start of this story and the characters seem to be thrown into one impossible situation after another throughout the book. This book had plenty of action to keep things moving along and there were quite a few times that I was worried about the safety of some of my favorite characters. I love the way that Meren has grown over the course of the series into the leader she needs to be in this installment.
Luis Moreno and Samara Naeymi did a fantastic job with the narration of this book. They were both able to bring the story to life through their use of various voices to represent the key characters and by adding just the right amount of emotion to their reading. I thought that their voices complimented each other very nicely and had no problems listening to this book for hours at a time. I am certain that their performance added to my overall enjoyment.
I would not hesitate to recommend this trilogy to others. I would definitely recommend that this trilogy be read in order since each book builds on the events in the previous installment. I found this book to be a fitting end to the trilogy as a whole. I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work in the future.
I received a review copy of this book from Entangled Teen and Recorded Books.
The Shadows Rule All is book three in the Dominions series by Abigail Owen.
I absolutely love this series and seriously can’t get enough.
A thrilling blend of fantasy, romance, and intrigue.
This was a dark, twisting, and utterly unforgettable ride, and I was so thrilled to see there's a third in the works.
It did not disappoint!
What a ride. The Dominions series really takes you on a journey fraught with Action, Betrayal, Love, Adventure and so much more. We see how our characters are put through the ringer throughout the series making the reader wonder “How will they get through this trial?"
You get all the feeling of a good Romantasy story:
• Bonded Mates
• Battle Scenes
• Adventure
• Amnesia/Mental Health Rep
• Angst/Tension
• Shadow Daddy
• Violence
• Death
• Good vs Evil
An emotional roller coaster worth riding through the darkness towards a lighter path.
This book is everything I hoped for in an epic finale! The Shadows Rule All delivers an unforgettable conclusion to the Dominions series, with each page pulling me deeper into its intense, heart-stopping journey. Abigail Owen has crafted characters so raw and real that they practically leap off the page, and their struggles and triumphs tugged at my heart. I’m truly sad to say goodbye, but what a breathtaking ride it’s been—an emotional, thrilling, and wholly satisfying end to an incredible series!

The Shadows Rule All by Abigail Owen
💜
This was the perfect ending to a great YA romantasy series! I loved the deep dive into Eidolon’s origin story, because it made him a much more sympathetic villain. This book is darker than the first two, but it was necessary for the plot and the character growth of Meren and Reven. They have been through so much, and the entire world seems to be conspiring to keep them apart; their yearning for each other is unmatched. This book is packed with action, danger, and devastating losses. The ending was bittersweet, but I felt like it fit the series perfectly. I was lucky enough to receive and ALC as well as an ARC, and let me just say that the dual narration was completely amazing. Samara Naeymi does an excellent job voicing Meren and vibrantly bringing the story to life. And Luis Moreno was the perfect choice for Reven. His voice was deep and growly and exactly what I wanted. If you want an excellent YA romantasy trilogy, I definitely recommend this one!

The Shadows Rule All is the thrilling conclusion to the Dominions trilogy!
I’ve been waiting this book for a long time. It’s been a while since I read the 2nd book, so my memory about it is a bit hazy, which is part of the reason it took me a while to get hooked into this book.
But I love that this story is much more action-packed, with the characters constantly on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of the villain and save the Dominions.
The thrilling scenes kept me at the edge of my seat, there were also heart-breaking moments that brought me to tears.
Meren, the FMC goes through a lot in this final book, and my heart ached for her.
It was sad to see Meren being so hard on herself and shutting down her emotions, leading her to make questionable decisions, but given what she’s been through, it’s understandable especially with Eidolon keeps bothering her.
As for the romance, there are plenty of angsty moments between Meren and Reven especially after knowing what happens to him in this book, adding another problem to Meren’s huge list of problems.
However, I was hoping for more from their relationship… I wish there were a few chapters from Reven’s POV to see from different perspective regarding their relationship.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed reading through Meren’s journey with her found family. I love watching her character grow from the first book until the last.
Loveable characters, epic world-building, unique magic system and a satisfying ending make this trilogy well worth reading.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my early copy. All thoughts are my own.
I honestly don’t know what to say. I think it was a great ending to a fantastic series but I do feel like Cain’s death was unnecessary. A bunch of people were already killed off, why kill him within the last 20 ish pages? I thoroughly enjoyed this book up until this part. Also, Bene, how? There wasn’t an explanation, so I’m confused.
I really don’t even know what to say about this book. I’m happy and frustrated at the same time, I have a lot to sort through. My heart just hurts. 3.5 stars rounded to. 4.
The Shadows Rule All is an epic and wonderful conclusion to the Dominion series that leaves the reader satisfied but also kind of wanting more. While I think the ending was clear, I also wasn't tired of the world or these characters yet and could have happily seen the series continue which I think is a major prop to the author. Book 3 was definitely a bit darker than the first two and left you feeling worried for your favorite characters and on the edge of your seat during some parts. Abigail Owen is very quickly becoming an auto buy author for me. Her imagination and writing skills are phenomenal and I am so grateful I get to enjoy her books.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Teen for the opportunity to read this eARC! Love you lots, mean it! <3
*I received and ARC of this book free from the author.*
The exciting conclusion of the Dominions series does not come without its losses. Every book has been a rollercoaster of excitement, filled with friendships, loves, losses, betrayals, and lots of the unknown. The Shadows Rule All wrap it all up while staying true to its nature. There are long separated loves, reunited. There are betrayals, righted. There are loved ones, lost. And there are evils, overcome.
Meren will fight her feelings, the shadows she carries, and her enemies, and it will all take its toll on her...and her friends. Reven struggles with not having his memories and yet trying to become this new version of himself without everyone's expectations of the old him weighing him down. Tabra tries to regain her strength and powers. Everyone is on this precipice, waiting for everything to fall apart, and yet they cling to every small sliver of hope they can.
"I remember taking you to the Shadowood where you proceeded to fit in with my people like you were the last piece to a puzzle." ~Reven
All I can is that everything works out as it should.
Abigail Owen has completed another amazing series that consists of an epic journey to right the wrongs of their Dominion. Every page held me captive until the very last.
I have adored the Dominions series with Meren and Reven becoming two of my favourite romantasy couples. This series has all the tropes I love - enemies to lovers, slow burn, magic, adventure, found family and more. So I have been waiting very impatiently for the finale to this series to be released. .
This book was perhaps the best conclusion to a series I have read in a long time. There was so much still to happen and I couldn't envisage how it was all going to be wrapped up in one book (I think I was secretly hoping for a fourth instalment). However it was achieved by a rollercoaster of a ride with non-stop action and tension which had my nerves on a knife edge. I am not going to give any spoilers but what I will say is don't expect everyone to make it out alive (I nearly didn't). My heart was in my mouth constantly and I read the last couple of chapters through a veil of tears.
I really do have to congratulate Abigail Owens on an amazing series and a thrilling conclusion. When I was asked for a star rating I realised they didn't offer me enough to rate this book adequately. A massive 5 stars + for this book.
If you haven't yet read this series, go and binge it now. I promise you it is worth it.
Oh my….
Final book in this trilogy, and I’m going to miss it 😞
I loved reading the storylines, watching Meren grow into a real kicka$$ character. Faced with challenge after challenge, she never gave up, although it did come close a few times!!
This book picks up from book two. Can you read this one without reading the first two? You could, but I think you’d be missing out on two fantastic books, and there is information that I felt pertinent to the story (but that’s just my opinion.)
So many characters have come and gone in this trilogy, some I’ve cried over, some I shrugged and moved on…. But all were integral to the story, one was a filler, everyone had their role to play.
Meren and Reven have become one of my favourite couples. Their relationship hasn’t been easy, they’ve fought one another and against this world to be together. And in this book, it’s still no easy task!
Eidolon is still a force to be reckoned with! Although on the ropes, I still wouldn’t count him out just yet! (And I did feel a little sad for him in the prologue 🤫)
The action is nonstop, the pictures in my head were painted so clearly due to the details given by this author. She creates a world you just want to live in, sights and sounds play like a movie in my head. (In fact at some point I’m going to grab the audios.)
Betrayal/suspense/mystery and battles will have you hard pressed to put this book down until the last page! Friends can’t always be trusted! Allies can turn against you, and even family needs to be watched!
There are lots of loose ends that need tying up. There are moments that need to be explained. And there are still loved ones to be rescued! And the author does all that and more!
I don’t want to give too much away, but be prepared for 🤧 and 😱 moments. I’d also say that this book is a little darker than the previous two, there is a warning at the beginning of the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it and the previous two. It’s definitely an adventure I’ll be revisiting at some point.
🦋
Amazing. This conclusion is prefect. I loved this entire series so much. It has every aspect of an amazing romantasy. Shadow power, enemies to lovers, epic battles, spice, fierce female main character, Puzzles and mysteries, Spies and betrayal. IT IS FANTASTIC. I can't say it enough. If you have a free weekend. Get all three books and devour them. Cause you won't want to put it down. This is one of the top series for me.
