This was a very timely story. June and Lyn are Metis sister whose mother has been cancelled. Their mother, a famous artist who was known as Raven Bearclaw, was outed as a pretendian. The news was picked up by the media and the sisters have to confront their mother's lies. This was a timely story of pretendians as in recent years there have been an increase of stories in the Canandian media on pretendians. This story was beautifully written story on identity, cultural appropriation, and family. A must read for everyone.

An incredibly powerful read on the pretendians issue that is becoming more and more evident in todays society.. The story was not only about two sisters trying to navigate their relationship with their narcissistic mother who stole their identities (and their fathers’), and made a career out of pretending to be a member of a marginalized community, but it was also about acceptance and healing. Learning that moving on isn’t about giving up on receiving closure but caring about yourself more than the person who hurt you. There was generational trauma, healing, and connecting with your community and culture.
