This book was laugh out loud funny. The parts that I really enjoyed however is where he talked about his family.

I’m bummed I listened to this, I need this book physically in my hands right now. I need ALL of my friends to have this book in their hands now, and on their coffee tables. Now ‘coffee table book’ you may be thinking like, “hmm so lame? Won’t ever touch?” But no, this book need to be out in the open for all of your friends to see and pick up so they can just read a few of the lines and then be hooked and want to share with their friends and so on. I laughed out loud, I felt like I needed to take notes and I need to go find some people (men) to use these lines on. I also think that men would find this hilarious, but that’s coming from me, a female. I love a good laugh and if you need a good laugh, this will do it!

This is basically a quick little list of things to say to get under the skin of any man. Haha. I listened to the audio version, and I listened to the whole thing in a single sitting. It's super short and quick (maybe an hour or so listening on 2x speed?) and full of witty, clever things to piss off any man in your life. Haha.

The follow-up conversation between the author and his mom at the end was okay, but it didn't really add much to the book in my opinion. Still, the actual book itself was a lot of fun. It's a quick way to lighten a mood if you're in a funk.

Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for giving me a copy of the audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own

So this isn't my encounter with Kyle Prue. Wait, that sounds creepy. Let's try that again. I'm a fan of Prue's work on Tiktok (I refuse to say "content"). My sister sent me a few of his videos when he got big and he always gets a chuckle and "Oh, that's so mean!" from me. Books, however as a different beast than videos and I was curious about how his video style would translate to written form.

Synopsis Origin Story: A friend asked Kyle for advice about a unique situation. She hated her best friend's partner and asked for a few things to say to the guy. Nothing outright cruel, that's too easy. No, something that still gently wears away at his psyche long after she's gone. Kyle gave her suggestions and eventually went on Tiktok to share other brutal things to say to men. Millions of views and a quite a few death threats later and here we are! A whole book with an audiobook read by the manical menace himself.

Review: So the that made me request the audiobook was that Kyle was narrating the book himself. I'm not sure how many of you have seen his videos but he has such a unique voice and cadence that I doubt the audiobook would have worked as well.

In the prologue, Prue reminds the audience that he is a straight white male and thus can say some of these scathing statements with more protection than folks from other communities. Throughout the book, Prue would make a statement and follow it with the reminder of "I'm a straight white man, I cannot advise you to use this at your own risk," It has a strange mix of humor and genuine worry that I appreciate.

I really had fun with this book. With books like this, it can gradually lose its initial charm and just feel like a list. With this though, Prue sprinkles in personal anecdotes and observations he's made over the years. It helps shift the tone of the book from surface level humor book to an interesting look on humanity. And yes, I mean humanity. I'm a cis woman and there were a few quips were I felt like I caught a stray. Prue also shares which comments that was used against him to brutal effect.

In the book, Prue discusses the fine balance he uses when he crafts a new weapon-, I mean statement to say to a man. He explains that he doesn't want to use a blank insult as it makes the audience defensive and shut down. No, his goal is to make the target rethink the encounter, maybe even his own life with a seemingly well meant remark. That takes finesse, years of observation and creativity that many aren't willing to use and that I, an incredibly petty person and a writer, appreciate. I can feel myself start to see the special code Prue uses and nearly used my new skills on an unsuspecting target. Turns out Prue is also good at teaching!

Prue makes a point to state that contrary to rumors, he doesn't hate men. In fact, he asked the men who feel outrage at the book and the videos to examine themselves. Prue even goes on to call the patriarchy a box that imprisons the men it claims to protect. In this, he details his own experience with outrage and it's honestly touching and gives me hope.

As a special perk, there's an audiobook exclusive of Kyle and his mother, Kelly Prue talking about the book and giving some advice to some fans. It's delightful and made me laugh.

Overall, I rate this book 5 stars. I will absolutely be listening to this again in the future and recommend it to my snarkiest friends.

Some funny lines in this very short book. This is a list of the kind of insults designed to annoy 'real' men. There wasn't much too it, basically just a list.

I listened to this, and the narrator did a fine job. There was only a single 'voice' as the narrator read the list of insults.

This was so funny! I was dying laughing. It was extremely short--felt more like a podcast than a book. Thoroughly enjoyed, though.

I was surprised to find that this book is actually written by a male author. I have never seen Kyle Prue’s TikTok videos this is based on so I was unsure what to expect with this book. I listened to the audiobook version which Kyle reads himself and while the entire book is short, taking about an hour to read, I found myself pleasantly surprised and laughing out loud multiple times. Kyle is clever and hilarious in his deadpan delivery. I will say that I am of similar age to the author and I think many of the jokes/references hit better and make more sense for those of our generation (Millennials). I also really enjoyed the Q&A and discussion with his mom afterward on the audiobook recording. His explanation and reasoning behind this comedy series and tying that in with our social and political climate in the world today helped me enjoy it even more. I would recommend this as a short, comedic read for those not easily offended! Thank you to NetGalley, Kyle Prue, RB Media, and Sourcebooks for the gifted ARC audiobook recording in exchange for an honest review.

This book was very entertaining and fun! I have seen Kyle’s “Things to say to piss of men” series on TikTok so I was very intrigued with what he would end up putting in his book. The book is not only a collection of insults that are designed to make a man question himself but also on a deeper level it is a reflection on patriarchy and the roots of male anger.
Loved the interview afterwards with his mother, the main part of the book is short, so the interview segment not only made it a bit longer but also added a lot to the book contextually.
I personally didn’t get two or three references he makes (probably because I am not American), which is not that bad considering there are 109 points he makes.

I will definitely buy a print version of the book for my bookshelf :)

Stop what you're doing and go buy this book. Buy it for your coworker as a holiday gift, buy it for your uncle as a F U gift, buy it for your best friend, your husband, and literally everyone you know. How to Piss Off Men is laugh-out-loud hilarity from start to finish. It's tongue-in-cheek in all the best ways while addressing how ludicrous the patriarchy is. What I found even more refreshing, however, is that this book is written by a man, for the sole purpose of destroying these damaging behaviors in his fellow men and creating more space for anyone the patriarchy deems as 'other'. I highly recommend!

I am not on Tik Tok, so I had not heard of Kyle Prue or his "How to Piss Off Men" series prior to seeing this book. It sounded funny, and I was very thankful when RBmedia | Recorded Books allowed me to read the NetGalley audiobook. When I saw the time I was a little shocked-- less than two hours? Is that correct? It is correct. In fact, the actual reading of said 106 things is only about half of the recording. The second part is Kyle and his mom discussing the book and then giving advice. Listening to Kyle and Kelly was no mere filler; kudos to whomever decided that section would be the perfect way to pad the audio recording. At one point they joke that the advice part is so much fun that they should just turn it into a call-in show. I can totally support that! I would encourage readers to buy the audiobook. Especially if you're on Audible or a Prime subscriber, the price is so low you would totally be missing out to not experience Kyle and Kelly.

Unfortunately, I was left unimpressed by the book. While I had hoped for something witty and sharp, it often felt more insulting than clever, especially toward women.

As a woman, I found it rather silly that a man would feel the need to explain to women how to piss off men as if we aren't already well-versed in the subject. Many of the examples came across as condescending. For instance, using a Lord of the Rings joke, with the implication that women wouldn’t understand it so he explained it

Rather than offering any fresh or empowering insights, the book fell flat, feeling more like a lecture on things we already know. I was expecting much more wit and bite, but unfortunately, it just wasn't there.

When I saw this book was available, I made sure to request it. Mostly because one of my absolute favorite authors had recommended it and done an event with the author. It’s a really short read (or listen in my case), but I could not stop laughing. I personally love when authors narrate their own books, especially when it’s a book where the comedic timing of the author can factor into how certain lines or jokes come across. There’s some great advice and nuggets of wisdom sprinkled through out. I think I already need to reread it, and give Kyle Prue a follow on social media.

I would give this 3.5 stars. I follow Kyle on TikTok, and while this book was funny - I don’t think it had much too it. I would like more funny stories and anecdotes, rather than just some tips. It would make a funny coffee table book.

I am not on social media but came across this book on goodreads. When I saw the juxtaposition between the title and the fact that it was written by someone named Kyle, and that Kyle was in fact a cis- het- man, I knew I definitely should have no clue what to expect from this book. So I write this for that audience.

This is a book on male anger, and does a great job of being witty along the way. A really great job. I listened to the audiobook version, where the first half is jokes (or self-reflections, or instructions, depending on how you choose to use the information) and the second half is an interview and Q&A between Kyle and his mom Kelly.

First-person critique of the cis- het- experience of patriarchy is not easy to come by, so I was happy to find literally anything on the topic.

The jokes (or reflections, or instructions) made me laugh, and the interview Q&A part was reflective, fun, and self-aware.

In the interview with Kelly he made a remark that the big sell on putting patriarchy behind us is to help everyone understand that it is not benefiting any of us. To me this book read, in part, as a way to express his lived experience of patriarchy, but also of our transition from patriarchy to equality. However, I could not totally make sense of what exactly the transition experience like is for him.

Given that he has spent so much time developing his voice on the topic of anger and his lived experience of masculinity, I would love to see a future work where he explores if he experiences our transition from patriarchy to equality as a matriarchy. If so, does he have any ideas for how to curb that? And if so, when is the right time?

Lastly, I would also love to see a podcast where Kyle and Kelly take calls and thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for this review.
