One of those books that tries to trick kids into STEM with a ton of text and info on each page. Kids would probably need to read it on their own and it’s so packed with stuff that I can’t imagine them wanting to. Good information and colorful illustrations if you can get the kids to read it though.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
I received an electronic ARC from Publisher Spotlight | Albatros Media through NetGalley.
Chytilova weaves math through this story of preparing to hold a party for grandma. The party prep involve various math areas in order to bake the cake, buy the gifts, make the cards and decorate. Each page spread shares informative text boxes as well as continuing the story. The illustrations capture the joy and the needed items to prepare. A fun read for elementary level readers.
The book was beautifully written. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
Great breakdown of math, science and physics involved in planning a birthday party. This title contains lots of examples and explanations for different measurements and breaks things down well. Measurements are in the US measurement system, and while many parts would be appropriate for international audiences there are issues with weight and measurement systems that would not translate to those using and teaching the metric system, and this accounts for about half the content of the book.
