This deep sea graphic novel has the feel of a deep space, as Dave ventures into the darkest depths of the ocean to rescue his mother. Along the way he meets mysterious, and hilarious, sea creatures who aid and hinder him. I loved the black backgrounds with shades of blue, reminiscent of the colors that would be available to the human eye at that depth, with pops of red-orange to accentuate characters, given that reds are usually the first color lost below water. This juvenile story did occasionally get thematically dark and mildly violent - I'm not sure I will read this one with my second grader - but is still appropriate for older elementary students. I read an eARC of this graphic novel, but would love to see these rich colors in person!

Netgalley ARC - I really enjoyed this humorous adventure with a unique art style and awesome deep sea critters running through their own activities.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was, initially, pretty sure I was not going to like this book. As someone who is too old to have had access to graphic novels in my youth and didn't have any interest in comic books, I still struggle to follow the story in them sometimes. That was the case in the beginning of this one. As it turns out, it's really clever and quite enjoyable. Once I got into the swing of the story and learned to see the illustrations effectively, I became pretty invested in the story. Will definitely be purchasing this one for my library!

Strange, quirky graphic novel for middle school kids. Mom's love is the same across different species.

Dave and his mom are explorers, but they've been separated! Dave's got to dive deep to get to her ship, but stuff is weird in the ocean. With the help(ish) of his new friends, maybe he can rescue her...or maybe they just want Dave's toilet? Its a weird adventure, perfect for fans of Dog Man!

This was just a lovely graphic novel. Cool story, intriguing characters, and a very touching story. I like Dave and Amos. The Walter side story was fun and could use its own adventure. I really appreciate how Grover was able to break this story down into sections and maintain buy-in by his readers Total win.

I really liked the style of this book. The art style and plot reminded me of cartoon network shows. The language the characters use is also very fitting and accurate to the language genz/gen alpha use

This book feels weirdly personal in that it seems to be driven by jokes the author shares with himself. Reading it feels like driving a car with a timing belt problem.

A fun choatic story of Dave and his screwdriver! I loved the color scheme and the way Dave's imagination flows seamlessly throughout the book. Kids will love how crazy and funny it is, especially if they like shows such as Adventure time, Phineas and Pherb, etc.
