Bree McCullough is attacked while investigating a murder, and her family, including her former lover Luca and her brother Slater, must protect her and her son Gabriel. As Bree and Luca work together to uncover the person behind the attack, they must also confront whether the attempt on her life is connected to her father’s murder or another case she was investigating. Their on-again, off-again relationship adds complexity to the situation, and they must navigate the danger while trying to protect their family. The story focuses more on intrigue and mystery than romance.
Since their teens, Bree McCullough and Deputy Luca Vanetti have had an on again/off again relationship. When Bree’s father, the sheriff at the time, is murdered and her mother goes missing, these two get together for one night. A night that produced a child. Though in their off state once again, Luca is determined to visit his child everyday and develop a relationship with him. Therefore, staying in contact with Bree.
When the baby is kidnapped, they join forces even after the child is returned and someone once missing comes back into their lives.
In the midst of it all, tension arises when an old case in which a young woman was murdered appears to be unraveling.
While investigating it, more threats and deaths pile up. Who is the murderer? Is there more than one? And why did it occur?
I have to confess that not having read the previous stories, I felt I was missing some critical information. The extensive cast of characters was at times distracting, especially when trying to remember who was who. Not warming up to the characters didn’t help .
Still , if you are looking for a suspense with some romance and have read the previous stories, this one is likely for you.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Tracking Down the Lawman’s Son by Delores Fossen is an intense read with lots of plot twists. The story starts right into the action which is my favorite type of book. The beginning has a glossary of characters for reference which is always nice. First off Bree McCullough has an accident, or was it accidental? Then when Bree and Deputy Luca's two-month-old baby goes missing they must put their differences aside to save the baby. Bree has been trying to solve the murder of her father almost a year ago now and figure out why her mother disappeared at the same time. Is she now a target?
I liked the book however, I felt the characters, especially the mom could have been done in more depth, like the relationships could have been better developed. The relationship between Bree and Luca was done well. The mystery unfolded very well and it was hard to figure out who did what until it was unveiled.
I do recommend this book it is a good story with mystery, love, and drama to hold your interest. I rate it Good because it is. However not higher because in my opinion, it felt like there was something missing in the family relationships.
Thank you, NetGalley and Harlequin for this early read this is my own opinion
Bree McCullough is in the emergency room when her former lover, Deputy Luca Vanetti, and her brother Slater arrive to find her being treated by Nathan, another ex-boyfriend. As they leave the hospital, she reveals that she was run off the road on her way to question someone about a murder. It appears someone is attempting to kill Bree, and now her family must protect her and her son Gabriel. The question arises: is the attempt on her life connected to her father's murder or to the murder of another woman she was investigating? Luca and Bree, who share a son and a decade-long intermittent affair, are now forced to unite until the situation is resolved.
An action-packed romantic suspense. Several exciting scenes. I did skip over the intimate ones. Many characters to support or cause trouble for the main ones. Some clever misleading happenings. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
This is apparently the third book in a series. However, I have not read the prior books, and this one did make sense, so it can be read as a standalone novel. There was enough suspense, as well as twists and turns, to keep the reader actively engaged. I appreciated the fact the suspense angle was more of the focus than the romance angle.
This is a typical DF trope. An ex in the form of heroine gets into some trouble and needs rescuing by the Hero who is in some form of law enforcement. There are bad guys galore presented to you throughout the story and one of them is always the culprit. The romance takes a back seat as the suspense is front and center so you never get any real romance or bonding between the MCs. It just wraps up in the last chapter with an ILY and HEA.
So if you know what to expect from this formula which is the writer’s signature, you won’t be disappointed. Otherwise don’t expect much romance.
Also, I hated that MCs were On-Again/ Off-Again for YEARS and dated OP in between. In the present, they have a 2 month baby boy that they share but I never felt any chemistry between them or any willingness for either one of them to make their relationship work.
The third book in the Saddle Ridge Justice series by Delores Fossen was intriguing at the very beginning! Lots of suspense and action all the way to the end. The story of Deputy Luca Vanetti and Legal consultant for the Texas Rangers Bree McCullough will not disappoint readers!
Bree and Luca were on and off forever. Well, the ON when her dad was killed produced baby boy. It's amazing how they are able to save everyone and figure out the bad guy(s) in a matter of a few days. (Sarcasm, but not meanly.) I did enjoy the twists in this one since you really didn't get a lot of clues. More intrigue than romance.
