Heather Weidner’s *Deadlines and Valentines* brings murder to the Valentine’s Day festivities in Fern Valley, and I couldn’t have been more hooked. Jules Keene’s and others are getting ready for the town’s first "Love in the Air" event - a book festival featuring romance authors. But when tensions among the authors turn deadly, Jules is determined to solve the mystery before it tarnishes her business.
As a fan of this series, I enjoy it for two main reasons: 1) the unique glamping resort theme, which is expanded with fresh ideas in every book, and 2) it's written by Heather Weidner, one of my favorite authors. Heather’s writing is like aged wine - rich, full-bodied, and immersive, drawing readers in as if watching a movie unfold.
Heather Weidner masterfully weaves together recurring character developments, the glamorous yet cutthroat world of authors, and lovable furry friends to create the perfect Valentine's-themed cozy mystery. I was hooked from start to finish, unable to put the book down. While the killer’s identity wasn’t shocking, their motive added a chilling layer, revealing the sinister depths of human psychology.
4.5/5
I really enjoyed this cute and fun cozy mystery! Tuck in because the pace is a bit slow, but overall, this is a must read.
I'll admit this book failed to hold my attention. The setting was fine, the characters were okay, the mystery was fun.
Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for a romantic cozy mystery, because it just fell flat to me.
If you like small towns, romance and cozy mystery maybe this one is for you.
It was a very cute story, I say more 3 1/2 stars for me . This was an ARC read for me. I wish I knew the other books prior as there are so many characters to keep track of it was a bit overwhelming. I did enjoy the murder mystery and the story being about Authors. Does give you a little in-site as to how that works can be
Thank you NetGalley and Level Best Books for the ARC.
Deadline and Valentine's by Heather Weidmer is a fun and cosy murder mystery that is slow paced.
It was a fun read where there is Valentine's setting with spooky mystery and death vibes. It was comparatively a lighthearted read but I ft like there were too many characters and some of the details felt unnecessary.
2.75 stars
Thank you NetGalley and Level Best Books for the ARC.
'Deadlines and Valentines' was a fun, cosy murder mystery. It was slow-paced. There were a lot of characters for such a short book and I found it hard to keep track of everyone.
This was such a cozy thriller! I really enjoyed the small town glamping resort in the mountains of Virginia. It was so easy to imagine in my head since I am familiar with the areas that the book mentions. I had no idea what to expect with a thriller/mystery themed novel based on a valentines book festival. With several quirky, attitude-filled characters, this book did not disappoint.
I picked this book up not realizing that it was the fourth book in the series. I will definitely be adding the first three to my “to be read” list.

This was a fun one! It's a cute mystery and a quick read. I liked the Valentine's setting with the spooky vibes of the mystery/death. I like the lighthearted chaos and liked the writer's voice - it was well written.
Constructive feedback: I feel like with so many characters, maybe it could have been longer to really flesh things out a little more? And maybe even a little more detail on things like the festival events and resort setting.
If you like cozy mysteries, glamping, small towns in the mountains, book festivals, and Valentine’s day check this book out. This is the fourth book in the Jules Keene Glamping Mysteries. I enjoyed this book and since it was a murder mystery it was also perfect for the fall too.
All romance books are roses, chocolate, and steamy love scene but are they??
The number of characters in the book made it very difficult to keep up with and the fact all of the Authors had two names. That is my main reasoning for the 3 stars. This book definitely packed the drama and chaos. I will admit my guess for the actual suspect was hard to pinpoint. Author turned killer?? Publisher turned killer? Who done it?
Fern runs a glamping resort and they're planning a Love is in the Air” Book Festival. There are authors with attitude that don't get on with other authors. Then one is found dead with a knitting needle in her neck
Thank you to NetGalley, Heather Weidner and Level best books for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This is a really cute and cosy murder mystery set in a hotel/glamping site in the midst of a Valentine’s Day Book Festival. Featuring a vibrant and eccentric cast this was a fun and light little read that made a good palette cleanser after reading a heavier book before it.
In my opinion, it has some issues with pacing and some clunky dialogue, but I can overlook that and say it was pretty enjoyable. This is perfect for anyone wanting to pick up a little cosy and festive mystery, definitely will be one I recommend in the darker winter months!
I enjoyed this read it was a really good murder mystery. It was a cosy thriller i don't normally enjoy thriller books as much as this but i think it had a story behind it and i was very invested in the characters. I liked the festival was a nice touch too i really enjoyed that. The cover and title is so stunning which is what made me request it in the first place and i'm really glad that i did.
This was a fun little murder mystery (and only around 200 pages, at least the ARC I read was only about 200 pages)! I finished it in an afternoon.
The writing style was fun and super easy to read, but I did find the dialogue to be a bit weird. It was another one of those situations where I found it to be a bit stilted and choppy.
There were also a lot of characters and for such a short book that was confusing. I had trouble keeping track of who was who a couple of times. But I don't know if that's a me problem or a problem that lots of other readers may experience.
A very cartoonish murder mystery (Valentines-themed, of course) that involves a little dating festival, a trip to a resort and a very popular author found dead!
If you're looking for a fun and festive lil romp, I would recommend this. But I still found myself wanting a bit more from it.
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.
I enjoyed this book. I was hoping for—a cute Valentine’s Day murder mystery. It’s a short and fun read, so I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something quick and light.
A few things didn’t work for me:
There were a lot of characters, which made it hard to keep track of everyone. The transitions between scenes were a bit confusing at times since the story moves between different environments without clear breaks.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC! I received an advance copy for free, and this review is my honest opinion.
Fern Valley is hosting its first book festival and it’s showing off and pulling out all the stops for the authors and fans. It has all these different events with some pretentious authors (if you know, you know.)
Jules Keene and her coworkers work at the glamping resort trying to make sure everyone’s doing ok and tempers are tampered down. Everything changes when a body of a well known author is found on the property. Jules has to find the culprit before more people get hurt.
This book was cute but it was a little overwhelming with how many characters you had to keep track of. While it was still a fun who-done-it book, I had a hard time finishing this one. The style of writing is not my usual type of writing I read.
I did enjoy some parts, and appreciated that it was a cozy and simple murder mystery. The characters all had different personalities which is hard to since there was so many in this book.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions I expressed are my own.
Cute cozy mystery with a Valentine/book lover theme. Cute idea but there were too many characters to follow with the story.
This was a really cute cozy read. Gave me Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine vibes! I’ll definitely have to pick up and read the other books to this series!
Although Valentine's Day is still a long way off, it was interesting to read a story where this holiday is combined with detective notes. It was fun, intense and very unexpected at times. I'm not a fan of this holiday, but here it fits the plot. Added to the list of favourites along with “How to kill men and get away with it”.
Deadlines & Valentines is an entertaining, lighthearted addition to Heather Weidner's Delanie Fitzgerald series. The fast-paced investigation pulls readers in quickly, keeping the mystery compelling throughout. The balance between humor and intrigue works well, with Valentine's Day as a charming backdrop to the more serious plot elements.
Weidner's writing is crisp and keeps the story moving at a good pace. The supporting cast also adds depth and humor, with friendships and relationships playing a nice role alongside the main mystery. While the plot occasionally leans into cozy mystery tropes, it remains fresh and enjoyable.
The only reason I didn't rate it a full 5 stars is that the mystery, while solid, didn't quite reach the level of complexity I had hoped for. However, the characters and the entertaining tone more than make up for it.
Overall, Deadlines & Valentines is a delightful read for fans of cozy mysteries, blending humor, romance, and suspense in a fun package. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quick, enjoyable mystery with a spirited heroine!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Heather Weidner for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Deadlines and Valentines coming out October 15, 2024. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is actually the first book I’ve read by this author. I need to read the other books. I haven’t read a Valentine based cozy mystery yet, so I loved that aspect of the book. I loved the book festival and glamping setting. Jules is a really strong and smart character. The mystery was really good. I loved the Scooby Doo vibes. I would definitely check out more books by this author!
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys holiday cozy mysteries!
