I received this ebook from JTBlossom.com ****on NetGalley - thank you!

I am passionate about the culture of Hawaii and I’ve been studying the beautiful Hawaiian language on my own for a few years now, using the very limited resources available. Environmental issues are also important to me, so I was really excited to discover this book. I realize that I am not in the target age group, but I still found this book informative, moving, hopeful and inspiring.

It starts with a glossary, which is very interesting and proved useful in my language studies. The story itself is captivating and emotional. It touches upon subjects like climate change, the importance of nature, family, heritage, friendship and community, as well as healing after a personal loss, making difficult choices and finding our path in life. It teaches about important values and also allows us to learn more about everyday life on the island.

The dialogues between the children sounded a little bit unnatural to me at times, but it didn’t take away from the story.

I hope this book inspires many young people to connect with their heritage and to take action in order to protect our planet.
