This was like an awful nightmare!
"The Invisible Girl" Luna Novella #19 by C. L. Farley is a sci-fi post apocalypse thriller and horror novella. I listened to the audibook version narrated by Clare Staniforth. It's a bit under 3 hrs long. Despite its brevity, this was hard for me to get through.
Maggie is the main character. She is a young woman, and she has been exiled. She can make herself invisible. She can see many of the shadow creatures and can't tell whether someone is real or not. When they morph and melt into disgusting lumps of flesh, she realized they were not real. She is having hallucinations. But is the guy who came to beg for her help to vanquish the shadow monsters real or not?
This story is extremely confusing even with repeated listening. It is very graphic in description. Don't try to eat anything while reading this one.

Despite being listed as Luna Novella #19, I can't find any evidence of other books published by this author.
I can't in good conscience recommend this book, other than as a description of a descent into madness/insanity.
Thanks anyway to Netgalley, and RB Media, High Bridge Audio, for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

i always love books with an unreliable narrator and with the fantasy element this book has, it goes the extra mile as to where things can't be possible in the real world. i find myself living the little rants that maggie went on even when they didn't make sense. she was a very interesting character and i would love to see this as a longer form book!
i also loved the end where she rewrote her own story and her line of dialogue and writing is so unique that you can really hear her voice in the words, this really reminds me of Douglas Adams in a way where there was a lot of personality but weirdness in one book and you wished it was longer.
In this short, post apocalyptic novella the FMC, Maggie, has been tasked with saving the world from the shadow monsters, but her psychosis makes it difficult for her to separate her hallucinations from reality. The story is told in a way that highlights the confusion that Maggie feels as well as her determination to succeed.
I did find this book a bit difficult to rate due to the confusing nature of the story. The author seems to put us in Maggie’s shoes by keeping us on our toes about what is real and what is the result of the psychosis. While I admire the author’s ability to do this, I am still confused even after the book is over.
Overall, I liked the concept of this book. I enjoyed the fact that it was a bit fractured. I found the audiobook narration to be done quite well with great pacing and diction. I just wish that I didn’t finish the novella nearly as confused as when I first began.
🧚🏻 A HUGE thank you goes out to NetGalley, RBMedia, and author CL Farley for providing me with a free audiobook version of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and Highbridge Audio for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review
I dont even know, it was some kind of meta , unreliable character narrative and yeah I was confused and didn’t enjoy it. It had some good plots with the change apocalypse butt yeah not interested.
I'll be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 16th October and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of November.
This was interesting. I was really into the narration. I feel like I was missing back stories for the characters, this is likely because it is a novella and I had just read a long novel. It didn't matter though. I had a great time listening to this.
The Invisible Girl by C.L. Farley is an interesting novella with meaning beyond the surface. This is thought-provoking story that makes you ponder reality and the effects of mental health issues as you follow Maggie’s journey into the apocalyptic shadow world. I really enjoyed listening to this well written novella. The narrator (Clare Staniforth) did a nice job portraying Maggie and her internal struggles, bringing this short story to life. This was worth the listen! Thank you to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
