I was first introduced to the Appies last Fall, so I was thrilled to read another book centered around the small town hockey team.
In Emma St. Clair’s latest novel, hockey bad boy Van happens to catch his coach’s soon to be son-in-law cheating on his fiancee the day of his wedding. Although he may been known for his fast paced dating life, Van doesn’t condone cheating, which is how, through a chain of events, he ends up with a black eye and on a trip with a runaway bride.
The hockey season is in full swing, which makes this the perfect read for the cozy weather.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the privilege of reading and reviewing this book. All opinions are completely my own and in my own word
I adore the Appies series and was looking forward to read book 5. As with the first four books, Emma St-Clair kept me entertained and emotionally invested for a few hours and I thank her. Can't wait for book 6.
I’m not normally a huge fan of clean romances, as the characters typically come off seeming like teenagers rather than adults. However, Emma St Clair (and Jenny Proctor) are absolutely my exceptions. I have loved everything I have read and have loved the whole Appies series. The author does an excellent job of writing clean romance, with the characters not at all seeming immature and juvenile.
Since the Appies were first introduced, I have wanted Van’s story. I loved him and Amelia together. One of the highlights for me in this book with definitely Van’s sisters! I really hope we get to see at least Grey again sometime in the future.
Emma St. Claire’s Runaway Bride and Prejudice is a charming and heartfelt romance that exceeded my expectations, earning 4 stars. As someone who usually prefers open-door romances, I was skeptical at first, but this book proved that a story doesn’t need explicit scenes to feel full of passion and depth. Amelia and Van’s sizzling chemistry leaps off the page, making their love story both compelling and unforgettable. While the pacing felt a bit uneven—rushed at the beginning and slower toward the end—it also highlighted how invested I was in their happily ever after. This book is a testament to Emma St. Claire’s talent for crafting romantic, meaningful stories that leave a lasting impression.
The whole Appies series has been so much fun, but I really enjoyed this one! Love the humor and sizzle.
Runaway Bride and Prejudice by Emma St. Clair is book five in Appies series.
Emily was supposed to be married now. Instead she is enjoying her honeymoon with Vik, a man who is on her father's hockey team, aka the men from the restaurant. Vol is the one who kind of broke up Emily’s wedding, but it seriously is not his fault that he stumbled upon cheating groom. And now he has the chance to spend some free time with her, overall it shouldn’t be that difficult to not to touch the coach's daughter. Right?
This book missed the mark for me completely. I found it very childish, I think it was because of the humor that didn't land at all. There was nothing that was keeping me interested in the story.
I really enjoyed the next in the appie series! It was funny and great. Thank you for allowing me to read and review this ARC
Runaway Bride and Prejudice by Emma St. Clair is book 5 in the Appies series. Anything with hockey is a win for me. I absolutely love this series and being able to follow the different hockey players with their own love stories, while still being able to go back and enjoy previous characters that you loved. Emma St. Clair writes laugh out loud banter between her characters with sweet romance that we all wish we had in our lives. Emma St. Clair is an auto buy author for me.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy.
Absolutely loved this book! Hockey romance with a little bit of Pride & Prejudice feels to it, yes please. A story that kept me turning the pages.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Emma St Clair is one of my favourite authors! She never lets me down! Add to that Hockey romance!?! Swoon! Forbidden romance with the coached daughter. Absolutely adored every moment of this book!
This is a cute romcom that was easy to follow. I devoured it in one sitting and was definitely “one more chapter”-ing my way through it. It’s technically book 5 in a series, but I read this as a standalone and think it works well independently of the rest of the series. That being said I now can’t wait to dive into the rest of the Appies books!
The quick premise of the book is that the hockey coach’s daughter, Amelia, is a runaway bride after learning her fiancé is cheating on her. Van, one of her dad’s players, is the getaway driver and ends up coerced (kinda) into joining Amelia on her honeymoon. 4 days of sharing a hotel room later and the pair have fallen for each other…but is it too soon?
✨hockey romance
✨runaway bride
✨insta love
✨forced proximity
✨opposites attract (“bad boy” x “good girl”)
Thanks NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This book is another one in the Appies series and it covers Van and Amelia's love story. This is a really cute, insta-love story that you will really enjoy. While I'm not normally a closed door type romance reader, this one was done really, really well. Great read. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy.
I think I may have fallen in love with Van. Swoon. This book has everything. A runaway bride. Forced proximity. Overheard elevator confession. Coach's daughter. Workplace romance. Crazy possessive sisters. Hockey. Lots of laughs. Chemistry. Banter. I loved it. Just read it already!
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-arc.
Excellent hockey romance. I loved it!

Having read 2 books in this series I was excited to read another. Amelia is about to get married until she find out her soon to be husband is cheating on her. Van has been invited to his coaches daughter wedding until he find the groom cheating. This book is a fun easy read with many will they won’t they. The books features characters from the other books. A highly enjoyable book. Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this in exchange for a review.
Tropes
Coaches daughter second chance romance
When Amelia finds out her fiancé is cheating on her, she leaves him at the alter. And the man driving her getaway car is Van, the man she met once at a bar and felt an instant connection with. He's also her father's least favorite player. When Amelia and Van head to Florida to escape the post-runaway pressure, will they reignite their old crush?

Runaway Bride and Prejudice was so fun. It put a fresh twist on some of my favorite tropes. And it was filled with rom-com goodness. Amelia getting territorial over her fake husband on the flight to Floridia? Yes, please! I really liked that Emma St. Clair gave us half-vacation romance, half-hockey romance while keeping up a cohesive plot line. It could have been really easy to have it feel like two books, but she transitioned from one to the other seamlessly.
This was not my favorite book in this series. I love the team dynamics of the Appies, and while that was present a bit, it just didn't measure up to the others. The romance felt rushed and unrealistic, and lacked the spunk that the others had. My other complaint is that, contrary to what the name implies, it has nothing to do with Pride and Prejudice, aside from a brief quote. Overall it was a fun read, but not the best in the series.
It's Amelia's and Drew's wedding day. That is, before Van catches groom hooking up with bride's cousin. The ceremony is obviously cancelled, but what about the honeymoon? They won't get a refund this last minute. Not to mention, after the disaster that just accured, Amelia could very much use a vacation. Not wanting her to be alone in this difficult time, Van comes to the rescue and volunteers to keep her company.
Another delightful read by Mrs. Claire! So much fluff, but also drama, and a whole lot of swooning!
Van is the team's proclaimed bad boy, but don't get it twisted, there really isn't a bad bone in his body. He is definitely rough around the edges, but inside he's a softie. Such a good book boyfriend.
I also loved Amelia's character and her development. She is so much stronger than me, I don't think I would survive an embarrassment of my soon-to-be husband hooking up with my family member the day of our wedding. Plus, a lowkey abusive dad. I loved watching her grow and stand up for herself.
Van's and Amelia's relationship isn't an easy one. As coach's daughter, she's off-limits. Adding Van's reputation as a womanizer, there's no way her father could ever approve of this relationship. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
This book is definitely one of my top 5 books of the year! I loved how the book just jumped right in and there was not a moment where it slowed down....or maybe that was my reading speed. I devoured this book. Twice. I loved it that much.
You know when reading a book you don't realize how far into the book you are because you're so focused? This book totally gave me that feeling. I knew ahead of time that there was something big at chapter 17 and about halfway through chapter 16 I saw what was coming and like horrible reality TV you sit there saying "No! But Yes!" and aren't sure how you feel about the fall out. I actually loved the fall out and especially the scene in the locker room with all of the family members (Again, horrible reality TV that you love to watch but hate to say you watch ::chef's kiss::)
This book gets a full 5 stars from me! Loved every bit of it and the bonus epilogue is one of the sweetest ev-ah!!
Anytime I need to inject some book momentum into my life, I just need to read some Emma St. Clair. She always hits it out of the park for me, and this book is no exception.
I may not like a bad boy in real life, but I play someone who does in my reading life. I'm here for more of Van and his snark and penchant for fun! Plus he is SO CHARMING. The way Emma balances his bad boy persona with his more gentle side that he only shows Amelia and his sisters is just perfection.
Amelia is so relatable. Writing the end of the story in her head instead of living it out is so frustrating to read and yet, I do it, so I get it. I loved her character arc here.
As always the Appies text chain was so fun and that alone could be a whole hilarious book. Give us some bonus scenes from the text chain Jenny and Emma!
I will be forever recommending this one!
