This imaginative adventure features a young boy who finds a treasure chest full of words. Hilarity ensues as Oscar tosses the words around him. Then a thoughtful neighbor teaches him how to find new words so his chest of words is never empty.
The clever illustrations are sure to delight children.
I just love it when children’s books contain an educational component. And A Chest Full of Words has just that.
With a cute storyline, A Chest Full of Words introduces a plethora of different words that is sure to expand a child’s vocabulary. It makes learning new words fun as well a challenging. And there are some challenging words that maybe too advanced for the target audience. But it’s all well and good since challenges are what exercises the brain.
The illustrations are adorable and just enhances the story to make learning entertaining.
Simply put, A Chest Full of Words is the perfect book for aspiring logophiles. Five stars.

What a lovely book- i particularly liked the unique storyline and the wonderful art. As a professional who works with children i do think this book could be a helpful tool when talking about the importance of words and their impact on how we view the world. I felt this was a fun whimsical book hiding a very deep lesson.
Oscar discovers a locked chest and upon opening it finds that it is full of words. Discover the meaning of the words as Oscar literally applies them to things. This beautifully illustrated book is whimsical and explores the meaning or words, while introducing us to new words and their meanings. The QR code provided in the back of the book was a delight to find, with supplementary materials with activities for K-5 including a crossword, question prompt writing worksheet, word matching, a colouring activities and more.
What a fun children's book! This book not only introduces tons of new words in a way that engaging and fun for children, but also in an subtle way teaches that words have power and throwing them out willy nilly is not the best idea.
The illustrations are interesting to look at, especially as related to the words used throughout the book. It clearly demonstrates the meaning of each.
This beautiful picture book shows us the power in words and all the different ones that we can learn and use. As a former educator I can see so many wonder lesson taught using this book….a whole wall of new words drawn and posted for other to learn and enjoy.
Cute picture book celebrating words and their magic. Oscar discovers a chest full of words. Initially he isn’t sure what to do with them. But the clever illustrations show him using the words to make a bug monstrous or a bird house grandiose. He learns that you can always look for and learn new words. I thought the story was imaginative but thought I’d have to explain some of the words to younger readers. I could easily see this in my school library and would enjoy reading it to students.
This was a perfect little book! This story beautifully conveys the magic and power of language, encouraging young readers to explore the world around them with curiosity and imagination.
As for the illustrations—wow! They are absolutely stunning, vibrant, and perfectly complement the whimsical tone of the story. The book’s message of creativity and the joy of learning through words is heartfelt, and I can see myself reading this again and again. I’m already planning to buy a copy to share with my nephews.
