Lie for a Million is the second book in the Rivalries series and it does not disappoint. I was captivated with this from the beginning and I kept turning pages until the very end. This takes place in Texas with drama, scandal and so much more that all is set in the world of ranching. The author wrote this so well and all of the characters in this were interesting. I liked how the book ended and I hope that there is another book in this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for this read in exchange of my honest review of Lie for a Million by Janet Dailey.
I really tried to stick it out through the end of this book, but I have to be honest… it felt like ChatGPT wrote this book…
I was enticed when the headline said this book was like Yellowstone and Dallas combined. I was enticed! But the writing was not good and it was all of the place. Maybe this would’ve been a good series on Netflix, but a book?
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read before it was published.
Lie for a Million brings us back into the life of Lila Culhane. She has still not gotten the answer to the question about who killed her husband, Frank. There are a lot of suspects including herself that Detective Sam is looking into.
The characters in this book look like they are guilty, but Detective Sam cannot say exactly who the guilty party is.
I really enjoyed this book, and it kept me up reading late into the night.
Each character has something they are hiding, and I cannot wait for the next book in the Rivalries series to have the case solved. Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for ARC of Lie for a Million.
Lie for a Million is the 2nd in a series but can be read as a stand alone as I did. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. This story contains mystery on who killed Frank and many many lies. The killer could be almost anyone, his exwife, his son and daughter in law that expect more, his current wife, his mistress and others. This was very enjoyable and kept my attention. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
This is the second book in this series and it continues to hold the suspense of the first book. I hope there will be a third book to wrap this story up. It leaves you hanging as the first book did. There are definitely answers still to be had. This was a great story and the characters in it are all interesting in their own way. A couple of characters hold some surprises and there are definitely some characters that you will like more than others. I am definitely looking forward to book three in this series. It has been a great one so far.
Thank you NetGalley. I really enjoyed this story. It really held my interest as they went through trying to find Frank’s killer. It could have been any of them. But will they ever find his killer? Only time will tell
An exciting action packed, suspenseful story with lots of twists and turns. The characters had an amazing dynamic that keeps you turning pages.
Loved this story as it continues. I feel that they still haven't found Frank's killer and new things keep popping up.In this story Frank's mistress comes into play and claims she is pregnant with Frank's baby and she wants Lila to adopt it. Is she pregnant ??. Well you know Lila and she is going to need proof. More suspects keep showing up and situations change. Sam, the FBI agent returns to ranch to work on the case and it seems just as he feels it's solved something else pops up. A GREAT READ
An intriguing story. Lots of questions, a few answers, and some lies. I did skip over the intimate scenes. Since the author is dead, I am wondering if the next installment has previously been published. I certainly hope so and that it will soon be released again. While this one ends with an apparent happily-ever-after, there are details that could be resolved. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
I'm usually not a fan of cliffhangers. This story picks up where the last in the series ended. And I assume will be true for the next book. It was nice because we already know most of the characters unless you didn't read the first book. In that case you'd be totally lost.
What a great read, can’t wait for the completion. This author has always been a favorite. This book is about a fish widow and the man she loves who are under suspicion for killing her husband! Lots of suspense and intrigue and some unexpected consequences
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review
What a great continuation of this series! There seems to be nothing but trouble for Lila since her husband was killed. Sam, the FBI agent tasked with the investigation, is living on her property, and the man she loves, Roper is his prime suspect. There are lots of side stories, which only add to the excitement of the plot. Lots of twists and turns and unexpected events. The ending, as always, is a major cliff hanger. I eagerly await the next book!
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I didn’t expect that twist towards the end! Quite a lot going on in this book. That elephant scene was hard to read! The second half did keep me reading till the wee hours. I find myself skipping the horse competition bits because, though I like horses, I don’t enjoy reading about those. Most of the characters are not fully likeable though Roper and Sam might be the exceptions. I feel that this series is beginning to drag a bit and I hope it will conclude by the next book.
The author of this series can write.
Janet Dailey brings us the story of the Culhane family when the patriarch is found murdered. FBI Agent Sam Rafferty is back on the case dealing with all the suspects including an ex-wife and the kids, the current wife, the horse trainer and manager Roper McKenna, and now a pregnant mistress. Who decided to put an end to the life of Frank Culhane? What information can each suspect give that would give Sam an edge of finding out the culprit? As he questions each suspect, we delve a little more into their lives and perhaps see that there was more than was on the surface of the family man whose business was breeding and training performance horses on their family ranch.
Janet Dailey brings us a mystery full of suspects who each had a reason to see the patriarch not be part of the picture. As we get to know each character in this story and how they are connected to Frank, we get to see a bit more into this complicated family drama. As events unfold, we focus on Lila the current wife and how she is trying to keep the family ranch and Roper who is at a crossroads with the upcoming race. Will he stay or go look for greener and less complicated pastures and fight his feelings for his boss? Will Sam find the killer? Will Lila be able to keep the ranch or will it go to his children? As you read, you get immersed into their world and find clues as they are shared with the readers urging you to keep reading to find out more.
I have read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Publishing | Kensington for this privilege.
I love Janet Dailey’s writing. Her newest book, Lie for a Million, was one of her best. I loved it! It was five star read!
This book was sort of a continuation in the series, I had read one previous book in the series. Overall, it's not bad. The author's family has been using a ghostwriter for several years and honestly I don't feel that it stands up to the quality of Janet daily books.
In Lie For a Million, Janet Dailey delivers a captivating tale of deceit, ambition, and the quest for power amid personal tragedy. Lila Culhane’s life is thrown into chaos after the murder of her husband, Frank, and the revelation of his pregnant mistress, Crystal. As Lila grapples with her loss, she faces the added challenge of a looming battle for her ranch and her husband's legacy. Desperate to secure her future, Lila contemplates a controversial offer from Crystal—to adopt the unborn child—provided a paternity test confirms Frank is the father.
As the high-stakes Run for a Million reining competition approaches, Lila must navigate her complex feelings for her ranch manager and lover, Roper McKen, while strategizing her next move in a game filled with manipulation and ulterior motives. Dailey’s intricate storytelling brings to life a world where familial bonds are tested, and survival hinges on both love and cunning. Lie For a Million is a gripping read that explores the lengths one will go to for loyalty, legacy, and the pursuit of justice, making it a must-read for fans of suspenseful romance.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC ebook copy of this story. This is the second book in The Rivalries series by Janet Dailey and it did not disappoint. I think this book was better than the first one. We are still following the Culhane family as they try to investigate and find out who killed Frank Culhane. Was it Lila, the wife who used to be a dancer, was it Madeline who is the ex-wife of Frank Culhane, was it Ropper McKenna who is the lead man now that Frank has been murdered, or was it the crazy mistress who has her eye on Frank's money, or could it be one of Frank's two biological children? Can't wait to read the next book in this series to find out more about who done it?
I also left a review on Goodreads.
A popular author has written a fun book…fiction with a mystery…realistic characters keep the story moving quickly.horses and their owners…secrets and red herrings…thanks Netgalley.
this was a strong sequel in the Rivalries series, it had what I enjoyed about the first book. The plot was everything that I was looking for from a romance novel. The characters has that concept that worked well overall in this story. I thought Janet Dailey wrote this perfectly and can't wait for more.
