When Henrietta Dagliesh, Lady Ernsdale was kidnapped, her husband refused to pay the ransom. Enter Joss Hinger is hired by Henrietta’s sister and her husband to save her and bring her back to them.
Unfortunately, things become more difficult when Henrietta’s elderly husband is murdered, and all fingers point to her! The heir apparent, who is desperate for money is the actual criminal, but the new bow street detective wants to make a name for himself and trying to convict Lady Ernsdale of her husband’s murder would be a coup in his career.
Fast paced with lots of chemistry between the main characters. I enjoyed this novel and would recommend it. I received an ARC from the publishers and NetGalley and submit my review voluntarily.
Lovely Historical Romance with Mystery and Suspense
He saved her from kidnappers; she gave him her heart; he did not believe in love, or that he was worthy of such a thing. Could Hettie change his mind? There would be treachery and murder before it was all over, and Joss found himself investigating a murder so that Hettie was not wrongfully arrested. He could not stay out of her life. To protect her, he must stay.
I loved this story and would recommend it to those who like historical romance with mystery, treachery, and suspense. The entire series is a delight. I read all the books and loved them.
A close bond was made when Joss Hinger rescued Henrietta Dagliesh, Lady Ernsdale, when she was kidnapped. Two months later, Joss once again must rescue Hettie. Circumstances have become more complicated between them. When her husband is murdered, she is accused of his murder, but lurking in the background is the heir desperate for money. Passion for Joss and Hettie isn't a problem, but the word love stands between them.
Fast paced and with mild descriptive sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book from NetGalley.
I enjoyed this book a lot!
Trapped in a loveless marriage, abducted for ransom, and abandoned to the not-so-tender mercies of her kidnappers, Henrietta Dagliesh, Lady Ernsdale, has only seen the very worst of men. Until Joss Ettinger plucks her from the river, saving her life and showing her that not all men are cut from the same cloth. And Hettie learns exactly why it is that so many women will readily fall from grace. Joss knows she’s not for him. But resisting temptation is never easy, and after one night of passion, he knows he must put distance between them for her sake, even if it eats him alive.
Two short months after his interlude with Hettie, Joss is stunned to find her at his door . . . the primary suspect in a murder and carrying a reminder of their last meeting. To save Hettie, he’ll have to face his own demons in order to prove her innocence.
This love story is full of meaningful moments and beautiful dialogs. They are so scare and broken. It´s super powerful to see how that love they denied so many times, is the only thing that could save them. There’s aghast, a bit of action, an evil man and great friends. I really enjoyed the sexy times. It’s always a pleasure to read one of Chasity Bowlin’s books.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Very interesting premise....
Hettie is a lady who is kidnapped and her horrid husband refuses to pay the ransom, so she's dumped. Joss rescues her and they hook up. Consequences from that night follow Hettie home. In the form of her being pregnant (there is NO break for Hettie's hardships) and oh, she's accused of offing her horrid husband.
I liked Hettie, Joss was harder to like.
What a beginning - Henrietta Dagliesh, Lady Ernsdale, is abducted by kidnappers, her husband refuses to pay the ransom to the kidnappers, Henrietta escapes, and then is rescued by Joss Ettinger.
There is SO MUCH MORE to this delightful story. So many different twists and turns, you can't put it down. There are false accusations, as well as the plight of women and how they are treated by some that should protect them.
I am looking forward to reading the next in this wonderful series!
This series just gets better and better. Intrigue, mystery, and our favorite spicy bits make this a tremendous read,
This is a well written and exciting love story. The characters are strong-willed and interesting. It is full of danger, action, intrigue, and so many plot twists and turns that kept me very entertained and engaged. I enjoyed this complicated romance. I highly recommend reading!
TW: confined spaces, claustrophobia
Hettie is a woman in an abusive marriage. Joss is a bow st runner who rescues her from the river. They spend a night in a shack in true spectacular romantic fashion. Pretty much nonstop action from then on. Hettie is a great, strong fmc. I didn't like Joss initially, but I did come around. Adorable epilogue.
Thank you to netgalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own

A well written book with strong characters & a well paced story. I really liked both Josh & Hettie & was drawn in from the start & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
The characters in this historical romance are not the usual "Ton people " we read about. Our heroine is an abused wife from high society. Our hero was a bow street runner with criminal ties. The way they met and their lives is the exciting story here. If you have read the previous books in the series you will have met some of the secondary characters. They are important in this one, so it might be better to read them in order. I have, so I knew who they are.
There is a lot of danger for our heroine and others to face. There is plenty of excitement and a little steamy.
Good fun.
The tension in this romance had me glued to the pages as firstly Joss tracks down the abducted sister of his boss, and then fights for both their lives in order to avoid her captors. The attraction between Joss and Hettie is so intense that it is quite tangible, in spite of them both trying to avoid the subject and each other. Hettie finally comes into accord with her degenerate husband, one in which she would stay out of his life and that he stays out of hers. Despite his lifestyle, Lord Emsdale is not yet ready to meet the Grim Reaper, but there is someone who would like to hasten his death, and place the blame on Hettie for his early demise. A Bow Street Runner wanting to make a name for himself finds Hettie an easy target when her name is whispered in his ear, and it takes Joss and the Hound's network to uncover the truth about the matter. Joss is intensely protective of Hettie and the child she is carrying as a result of their night together after her rescue, but his own insecurities prevent him from telling her how he feels. Fortunately, they both come to their senses and the novel closes on a happy note. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is one of those stories that you don't want to miss and that you should read the prior story to understand and obtain the full impact and enjoyment. Hettie is from the Ton and Joss is a street rat. Never should the two even meet yet they do and their lives become intertwined in a dramatic manner. An unusual but moving story, well written by a very talented author. The characters are strong, engaging with a bit of steam and lots to overcome. Excellent read.
Opens right to action and then to a rescue. False accusations and vulnerability of women no matter their rank make for a novel worth reading. The interaction between the lady and her hero is well written. Will follow up with the rest of the series.
This was a strong ninth book in the Hellion Club series, it had that historical feel that I was looking for and enjoyed from the other books. I thought the characters worked well in this story and was engaged with what was happening. It had that historical romance element that I wanted and enjoyed getting to read this. Chasity Bowlin always has a strong style and I really enjoyed getting to read this.
Josh grew up under difficult circumstances and has worked in many roles including his current one as a private investigator.
He carries out a job as a favor to the Hound by rescuing his wife’s sister Hettie.
Unfortunately he becomes a little too close to her as soon he is helping her investigate the murder of her husband.
Adventure ensues from page one with lots of plot complications and twists.
Complicated love story that draws you in until the end.
Read in one day!
When Hettie is rescued from kidnappers by Joss she still is very wary of any man. After spending time with him, however, she comes to trust him. Joss doesn’t believe in love and certainly doesn’t feel he is worthy of Hettie. Can he make himself vulnerable to Hettie in order to accept her love? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
