I finished this book at 3 am this morning- I only meant to read a couple of pages
I couldn’t stop reading - I had to know what happened next. This is a delicious slice of escapist heaven. It pulls you right in and you can’t stop turning the pages. LOVE IT!
This is another fantastic domestic thriller by Samantha Hayes. Her writing style is always fast paced and comes with plenty of twists. I’ve read all of her other books and this is definitely one of my favourites.
Gina’s husband installs a new light fitting at their home, but the worst scenario happens while they are out for the night and the house catches fire, they must move out while renovations are completed to get the property back to a condition that is liveable. A friend of Gina’s, Annie, offers her home to them to stay in and they are incredibly grateful. But soon there is a knock at the door and the woman behind it claims she is the housekeeper; her name is Mary.
This is the last thing Gina expected and is nervous about her arrival, she has two young children and is very protective as any mother would be, Gina contacts Annie to confirm this woman is who she says. Once this is clarified, Gina feels a little easier but still has concerns. Soon she is thrown another surprise as Mary states she has left an abusive relationship and needs somewhere to stay; she leaves to get her belongings but comes back with a man who she says is her son. Guess what, he needs to move in too, oh how the plot thickens.
Gina’s gut is telling her things aren’t right and generally our gut feelings are correct. This now sets the scene for us to slowly discover what Mary’s intentions are and how this is going to affect Gina and her family.
As with all this authors books there are twists and turns that will keep you absorbed in the story and there will also be some surprises you will not expect. Another great book from this author that I highly recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions expressed are my own.
Wow! Samantha Hayes does it again with another fantastic read. I was hooked on this one for days. I don't do spoilers, this one is a must read and I give it an easy 5 stars.
Her Housekeeper is a slow burner that turns into a bonfire in the last third of the book.
Written in dual timelines, present and past, it is an absolutely gripping psychological thriller that has enough twists and red herrings through out to keep you guessing.
4 stars ****
This is a slow burner but stick with it as it builds masterfully. A really great read, where people aren’t who they say they are! Lots of twists and a satisfying ending. A really great thriller.
Told in dual timelines:
Present:
Gina’s life gets turned upside down. Baby Gracie is a few months old when their house burns down. Luckily, her old friend Annie is going to be out of town and offers Gina and her family to stay at her house. Gina, gratefully accepts. But, as she is moving in, Mary walks in on the family. What?? Mary is apparently Annie’s housekeeper. And Gina text Annie, and Annie confirms it. But, things just don’t seem right. Then Mary needs a place to stay and wants to move in. But, Annie texts Gina and lets her know all is good.
Past:
Gina, Annie, Laura and Sara are BFFs. Until one night Sara went missing and has never been found.
It was a slow start, but once you hit the half way point the book takes off and I could not put it down! High tension, likeable characters, shocker twists – can’t ask for more.
Totally enjoyed it! RECOMMEND

Her housekeeper had me glued to my kindle. Cancel all plans while reading - I inhaled this amazing book over one weekend and resented everything that kept me away from it! The writing was top notch and the characters were very real.
Nederlands:
Een spannende verhaal zoals alleen Samantha Hayes het kan schrijven. Een verhaal over vriendschap, geheimen en verraad. Een web van intriges gesponnen met precisie. Moeilijk neer te leggen. Een aanrader.
English:
An exciting story as only Samantha Hayes can write. A story about friendship, secrets and betrayal. A web of intrige spun with a firm prescision. This book is hard to put down. A must read.
4.5* well, just wow. Through almost the whole book, I had it figured out. Until, I didn't. I was correct on the people involved, just not the way they were involved. This was definitely a crazy ride. If you start reading it and think ugh same ol',same ol', please keep reading because it isn't what you think. Great job!
Thanks to netgally, the publisher and author for this crazy fun thriller ARC, for an honest review.

Gina is married to Matt. They have a young son and infant daughter and when their house burns down, they wind up accepting an invite to stay at Gina's old friend Annie's house while Annie is vacationing in Africa. But when they get there, Annie has a maid named Mary who is acting suspiciously and then she says that she and her son need a place to stay and need to stay at Annie's place with Gina and her family and Gina starts to doubt Mary is who she says she is.
3.5 stars.
This book was fine. It had an ending that I didn't necessarily see coming. I thought it got bogged down in the early/middle when Gina kept doubting Mary but then kept swallowing her concerns. I felt like this was one of those books that only works because the main character is constantly putting aside her concerns and accepting what is happening around her even though the situation is questionable. But, I have read many books from Samantha Hayes and I am sure I will continue reading her novels.
Gina’s family moves into Annie’s house after a house fire. Annie is on vacation and offers her house to them. Meanwhile the housekeeper and her son move in because they have nowhere else to go.
This one was just too predictable to me. Annie. The phone. Who Mary is. Etc. I ended up skimming most of it. Wasn’t as good as prior books. Just didn’t care for it.
Gina, Matt and their children are staying at Gina's friend's house. Annie has gone overseas on a holiday.
Annie never told them she has a housekeeper, Mary, who turns up at the door, and eventually moves in with her son, as she is being abused by her boyfriend.
This is a page turner with red herrings galore, and twists and turns that will make the reader dizzy to say the least.
There were parts that I predicted, but some parts were totally unexpected.
The ending was a jaw dropper.
3/5 stars from me.
Once again Samantha Hayes gives us another fantastic psychological thriller. As soon as I seen this I knew I was going to be in for a hell of a ride and wow it did not let up from start to finish it had me on the edge of my seat. It was full of suspense, secrets and lies I loved it. There was so many wow moments that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to recommend this amazing psychological thriller. Definitely in my top books I have read this year. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this great book.
AMAZING! this book was fantastic from start to finish, full of twists and turns which left me guessing till the very end, one of the best thrillers ive read in a long time
Wow I really loved this one!! It was jam packed full of twists and turns which really kept me guessing and I couldnt put the book down!!
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand Her Housekeeper is well-written and there's no doubt in my mind that the author is beyond talented and dedicated to the craft of writing. On the other, this novel was so dark for me, that I kept going back to the page thinking 'did I download the wrong book?'
The main mystery in the blurb is actually very intriguing. This is advertised as a 'psychological thriller' but in my opinion is more of a gritty crime novel. If you like that kind of content, then you'll love this book for sure. If you're a wuss like me, be warned that it contains all kinds of child abuse, sexual assault on a 15-year-old, detailed physical violence... you name it. How is this not mentioned in the blurb?
It's obvious that I am not in the target market of this novel, but I'm also not dumb and wouldn't willingly request an ARC if I knew I couldn't handle its content. It's difficult to rate this book and feel bad giving it a low score! Ultimately, it is not the author's fault that the marketing omitted to mention its very dark themes or add a trigger warning.
I'm giving it a 3-star because it is well written and ultimately I got this ARC for free, but I skipped most of it and the little I read made me very uncomfortable. If I had purchased this book I'd be returning it!
Wow! Wow! Samantha Hayes delivers big time. She’s definitely a ‘go-to’ author for me. Secrets, lies and crazy great reveals. This was a roller coaster ride and left me gobsmacked. Fabulous read. Highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley, Samantha Hayes and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book
Well this really is a twisted tale of secrets and lies and a quest to find the truth out no matter what the cost. When Gina and her husband Matts house is burned down in a fire her friend Annie offers them a lifeline. Stay in my house with your kids as I am away travelling. As Gina starts to settle in Annie’s housekeeper Mary shows up and even though she’s assured by Annie that she’s great Gina feels unease every time she is around. Being in this house with two small kids is starting to make her loose her head a bit and being back in the town where her best friend was murdered all those years ago is harder than she expected. As Mary seems to be everywhere and Annie not picking up the phone is everything she’s built in her life in danger. The twists and turns in this book will make you dizzy but it’s one not to be missed!
Wow...so many twists in this. Kind of knew who but not not hoe or why. Great piece of fiction. I've never loved a character so much who might be dead
