3.25 ⭐️ this was messy and fun and i enjoyed my time listening to this! a good quick & easy workplace mystery, would recommend as a good palette cleanser!
The narration is spectacular but as with the rest of this series, I was bored and didn’t connect with nor care about the characters or what was happening at allll
First of all, Brittany Pressley knocks the narration of this out of the park, as always. However, the story was lacking. I love the idea of these tiny little mysteries, but I think it needed to be longer. I couldn't really get into the story, it just felt like things were missing.
Crime of Fashion by Emma Rosenblum is short story number three of six in the Busybodies Collection where "There’s A Mystery Around Every Corner!"
This was a fun little mystery centering around a diamond necklace that goes missing from an ELLE magazine photo shoot. Fashion-closet detective and main character Nellie was a quirky underdog to root for! My one issue with this book was the many characters to quickly learn about and keep straight as the story unfolded. The ending surprised me with a little twist that left me wondering (in a good way)!
Brittany Pressley did a fantastic job narrating, creating different and believable voices for the many characters!
This series features 40-ish page/hour-ish long books and they're just the sort of story to slip into when you've got just a bit of spare time!
Thank you NetGalley, Brilliance Publishing and Amazon Original Stories for the complimentary audio copy to read and review.
An expensive necklace goes missing at a fashion shoot and there is no shortage of suspects. A mish mash of characters made this entertaining. It definitely doesn't take itself too seriously as everyone hunts for the necklace.
Brittany Presley is one of my favorite narrators and brings this one to life. She is stellar in voicing the large cast and made me smile as I listened.
A $3 million Bulgari diamond necklace vanishes during a locked-room photo shoot, and we’re immediately thrown into the high-stakes world of fashion, politics, and privilege. It’s up to Nellie, a production assistant, to solve the crime. This whodunit explores the lengths people will go to preserve their reputation. The truth slowly unravels, revealing itself over a beverage that, much like revenge, is best served cold. Overall, the story was fun to follow for its size and depth. It’s the perfect listen for a load of laundry or a grocery store run. I liked the narrator a lot, I think her voice was perfect for the story.
This was a lot of fun! I liked being on the inside of the photo shoot at a fashion magazine and seeing how all of that works. The crime, refreshingly not a murder, was easy to follow and had plenty of suspects in a locked room (or fashion closet) and had a satisfying ending with a little bit of a twist at the end. This was my favorite of the series!
If Diet Coke is a core part of your personality, then this is the one for you! This is the fourth audiobook that I've listened to featuring Brittany Pressley. She tackles the large cast of women so well! There's our homemade sleuth Nellie, nepo-baby Charlotte, fashion veteran Farra and the popstar making her golden-years comeback Marlie.
In the middle of an Elle covershoot, a three-million dollar necklace goes missing! Nellie could have sworn that the necklace was exactly where she had left it minutes ago, but that's hardly a defense where her boss' boss Charlotte is yelling in her face. They search the set in a panic only to find the missing jewels in Charlotte's own purse! Confused and paranoid that this will still be blamed on her, Nellie snoops around to figure out exactly what went down.
I don't want to spoil it, but you will love the final clue! Such a fun mystery.
! love a good short story collection.
Particularly, when there’s a good theme throughout.
A Crime of Fashion had some good points.
I liked the whodunnit vibe, the quirky main character, and the twisty bit at the end.
I didn’t love the casual use of OCD, or the False Accusation plotline.
Crime of Fashion is a short story that is part of the collection called Busybodies.
I have read both of Rosenblum's previous novels and she truly has a knack for writing unlikeable characters. That’s really not an insult, her stories seem to desire characters you want to hate and no one does that better than her. The only issue I have this time is it’s a short story so I feel there’s not enough time to set up why these characters suck.
This is a quick locked room mystery about who stole a necklace. It’s a story about stealing a fashion piece but again it’s a victim of being too short and not enough was set up for me to be as invested as I would have liked.
Short stories are an art form that is tough to master. I look forward to reading Rosenblum's next full novel but as for short stories, I find this one a little hard to recommend on its own merits.
Fashion mystery with a hint of nepotism. The way this one played out sort of had a Murder She Wrote or Diagnosis Murder vibe. I love shows like that. It was a fun little read. My first book but this author and I’d absolutely read more by her.
Thank you so much Brilliance Audio for the ARC!
This one was short and fun! I have never read a Emma Rosenblum book but this makes me want to pick up her full-length novels in the future!
This audiobook is perfect for a one-sitting listen at just about an hour in length! The narrator did a great job!
3 stars for the story, 5 stars for the audiobook production!
Crime of Fashion by Emma Rosenblum is part of Busybodies- a collection of short, quirky mysteries.
I'm a big Emma Rosenblum fan so I was excited to see her featured in this series. Crime of Fashion was a great addition to Busybodies. Such a fun story! I loved the setting and really got a kick out of the characters. This fun and frivolous (in a good way!) short story really hits the spot.
If you're into fashion, mysteries and amateur sleuths, this one's for you.
