“𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴? 𝘎𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨?”
Remi, Maeve and Eliana, are sisters gathering at a campground to celebrate their parents’ wedding anniversary during the 4th of July celebrations. Told from Remi’s POV, we see that she’s hesitant about being with her entire hippy family due to her anxiety, and her strained relationship with her sisters. There’s a frightening incident one night where things quickly dissolve into chaos after they think they’ve accidentally killed someone, and the body goes missing the next day. While they’re looking for the body, they also learn that there’s a manhunt going on for a fugitive in the area. Things go from bad to worse but they’re actually getting along, sort of. Who knew searching for a lost dead body and avoiding a dangerous fugitive would be a bonding experience?
Nankani is one of my favorite narrators and I just loved how she delivered this story featuring bizarre personalities and even more goofy scenarios. Remi’s POV does get a bit repetitive. Yet someone with anxiety in a deeply distressing situation? It makes sense.
Highlights:
⛺️ Family dynamics, sister relationships
⛺️ Amazing narrator
⛺️ Mystery, suspense
⛺️ Some physical comedy
Be aware of: anxiety, attempted sexual assault, mention of hit and run
If you decide to read or listen to this, please keep in mind the content/trigger warnings I mentioned above. It felt to me that the reaction and subsequent fallout was authentic. I’m sure each reader will have a different reaction to that.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and how the three estranged sisters dropped any guise of perfection, and came together to help each other. If you like weird dynamics and eccentric families, here’s your latest listen!
Thank you @brilliancepublishing for my ALC in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this one but it was really good. I thought the sisters were a little annoying and I wanted to tell them all to grow up but then I enjoyed how they all had to work together. The storyline was good and I loved that the whole family was there.
🎧Song Pairing: Drop Dead - grandson
💭What I thought would happen:
Getting Finlay vibes from the cover and a Mindy Kaling pick? Say less!
🗯Thoughts/sassy musings:
I saw someone on Goodreads say that maybe if the main characters weren’t that they may have actually enjoyed the book - a) hilarious b) accurate 😂😂😂
I didn’t hate it but like why did the accountant sister have to be such a biatch, why must finance girlies get such bad reps 😂 I’m not like a regular finance girl, I’m a cool one 🩷
Anywho, didn’t completely suck 💋
Thank you so much to brilliance audio for my audio copy of Drop Dead Sisters and thank you to
Mbc tours for my finished copy! This book was an absolute treat! I would say fans of Finley Donovan would enjoy this book! It’s a hysterical mystery about a dysfunctional family and their complicated relationships. It is twisty and so enjoyable! The characters were unpredictable, hilarious, flighty and a delight to read about. The audio was so good, the narrator does a perfect job! Highly recommend in this format!
DROP DEAD SISTERS by Amelia Diane Coombs was truly a delight to read. I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with this novel. I went in mostly blind, and really didn’t know what to expect. Just by reading this very quick synopsis, I had a vague idea, but honestly got SO much more than I was expecting from this story:
QUICK DESCRIPTION:
“Three sisters reunite on a family vacation and rekindle their relationship the only way they know how—by covering each other’s tracks in a real-life murder mystery not even they can figure out.”
By using a great blend of genres and themes, it was so well-rounded and intriguing. There’s truly something for everyone in this novel. Family is the major heartbeat of the story, so that’s probably why it worked so well for me. (We all know that family dramas are my jam.) There’s a perfect balance of serious and heavy issues with so much fun and dark humor.
READ THIS IF YOU ENJOY:
- Family drama and dynamics
- Sisterhood and sibling rivalry
- Camping, hiking, and nature
- Mental health representation
- Murder mysteries and whodunnits
- Fun and quirky characters
- Family reunions and vacations
This book gave off major DIAL A FOR AUNTIES vibes, so if you’re a fan of that book, then you’ll definitely dig this one as well. Oh, and word on the street is that this is book number one in a series, so I am very excited to read what the author releases next.
DROP DEAD SISTERS is available now, and currently free to read and listen to for kindle unlimited subscribers! Go download it now! 4/5 solid stars!
I’m a sucker for family drama. Especially when it’s not my family lol.
The Finches are not close but have to come together for a camping trip/vow renewal for their parents. Remy the baby of the family has always felt like an outcast as the anxious sister but has to come together with her older sisters to investigate a murder to ensure they aren’t all blamed for a man being found dead.
It was a pretty fun story. The main character was quite whiny and repetitive but the story and side characters helped anytime she was getting on my nerves lol.
Also I didn’t realize until coming to write my review that this is a book 1 and I am excited to return to the Finch sisters hopefully with a different sister as the main character.
Thanks to Netgalley and Brillance Pub for an alc
I really thought this would have been funnier. Reading the description, it seems the book could go a few ways: an exploration of the messy relationships between siblings, or a funny sleuthing adventure between sisters who are trying to find their way as adults; either of these would have been fun and amusing. Unfortunately, it was neither of these. Instead, it skirted both of these but never really became anything except Remi complaining and blaming others for how her life had turned out. And it seemed to drone on incessantly. This was not for me and I will not be continuing with the series

About the book 👇🏽
Three sisters reunite on a family vacation and rekindle their relationship the only way they know how--by covering each other's tracks in a real-life murder mystery not even they can figure out.
🏕️ My thoughts:
Loved loved loved!! I loved this book so much. When I read that three sisters reunite and accidentally kill someone, I knew I needed to read this and immediately added it to my TBR. I literally said “Sign me up!”. What was even better is that I was fortunate enough to also get the audiobook. Which means when I didn’t want to put the book down but had to, I was able to listen to it. Soneela Nankani did a fantastic job narrating this story and keeping my attention when I needed to jump from book to ear bud. The family drama, the murder mystery, the dark humor… it’s literally setting you up to binge this. There’s literally no other way to read it! And that twist was so good. I just saw that this is the first installment in The Finch Sisters series and the way I did a little happy feet dance… I can’t wait to read book two. Don’t miss this new murder mystery series! Drop Dead Sisters is out NOW!
Happy reading 📖 🏕️🎧
This is a madcap family reunion story at a campground staring three distinctly different sisters. Historically, the three have avoided one another save family get togethers and the grudges run long and deep. Their hippie parents stop in a campground with their beloved RV and call the family "home" for an anniversary celebration. While there, and accident occurs and the sisters find themselves stuck together with only one another to count upon.
Remi, our heroine, is unfortunately more of a whiner than a doer, but the rest of the crew is delightful and the story moves on around Remi.
I would recommend this story to anyone who loves a family drama, a cozyish mystery thriller or a madcap story. I think Remi could be painted with a thinner brush of course, but, the antihero these days always seems to be a young woman yet to find her wings. Fly Remi! I want to hear or read another story about your family!. #soneelanankeni #ameiladiancoombs #dropdeadsisters
Thank you Netgalley for the audio book.
The narrator for this book was great, they conveyed emotions in a very clear way and were easy to understand. I would definitely listen to another book read by them.
The book itself was okay. I definitely had to suspend my belief as the main character went through much more than I would for my sister, and she didn’t even like her sisters at the beginning.
That being said, I enjoyed the portrayal of a sibling relationship that isn’t perfect from the beginning. We don’t get to choose our siblings and personalities can clash between them just as much as with strangers off the street, and this book definitely captured that.
I found the main character a little annoying if I’m being honest. She was incredibly pessimistic but at the same time confused that everyone found her to be a bit of a downer. By the end of the book I definitely liked her a bit more, but hopefully in future books she can be a little less one dimensional.
I liked the bit of romance sprinkled in, that part felt like the most believable part of the book. It was done well and didn’t take away from the mystery arc.
The reveal was a bit of a surprise. I had started to put it together but when the main characters stopped focusing on it, it slipped to the background of my mind as well.
Overall it was a book I had a decent time listening to, and if I see any follow up books I would probably pick them up as well.
This is a first for me for this author. The novel is a murdery mystery/comedy of errors/family dramedy/closed room mystery. it was not realistic but an entertaining read. Light, easy read. Would recommend.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a murdery mystery/comedy of errors/family dramedy/closed room mystery. Mindy Kaling, you haven’t led me astray yet.
Remi isn’t close with her sisters, soon-to-be-divorced mother Eliana and bisexual influencer Maeve. They don’t live in the same city nor do they invest much in their relationship, much to the dismay of their happily married parents. But when they go on a camping trip with extended family over the Fourth of July, they find that they’d hide a dead body rove without second thought. Fugitives from justice, a who dunit, quirky family characters and a seemingly unnecessary local boy romantic entanglement round out the narrative elements that keep the pages turning.
This was a fun, sister centered mystery that you will surely finish in one setting. You may or may not guess some of the reveal elements, but the pacing and conversations are great. The characters are all flawed yet likable. I have already added the second installment in the Finch sister series, to be published October 2025, to my TBR list. The murder victim is someone we get to know just well enough to intensely dislike. Not that he deserved to die, but that we aren’t sad he’s gone either.
Themes of family solidarity, career over family, and a lot of dark humor.
The audiobook was easy to follow, I like this narrator. I typically listen at 1.5 but this one I could listen at 2.0 as I was pretty engaged.
