“Better to fall on your ass climbing a mountain than to never climb it at all.”
What happens when your career comes crashing down and your sister forces you to go on a six week retreat to the middle of nowhere Alaska? You write a murder mystery turned romance while accidentally finding yourself in the middle of your own HEA, something you’ve long stopped believing in. Well, at least if you’re Margot Bradley that is.
“Despite all logic, I look at her and feel the shape of my future, the same way I know the warm taste of her skin without touching her.”
If you’re looking for a cozy, feel good, hot for you type of romance, this book is for you. Margot and Forrest are two people who have been putting others first for a long, long time and have lost themselves a bit along the way. They’re sweet, hurt, and broken people who find peace in someone who finally gets them. Their romance starts off surface level and quickly turns into so much more.

Thank you Atria Books for my gifted copies. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this story! Margot is a canceled romance author visiting Alaska for a change of scenery while she writes her first murder mystery. Of course, the resort owner’s son checks all of the trope boxes she never knew she needed! This is swoon worthy and funny. I loved Margot and Forrest’s connection. They both understand what it’s like to be a caregiver for a loved one. I also lived for her to complete her adventures and then receive a letter from her sister, Savannah. I can’t believe this was a debut and I can’t wait for more books from Victoria Lavine.

Any Trope But You is funny, endearing, spicy and sexy love story!
This debut novel is a love letter to romance books.

Maybe because I'm on a cruise.i didn't pay attention enough to this but it was just Meh to me. Nothing really to remember and praise about it. Sorry

Do you have a favorite troupe? Most of them are probably in this book. Enemies to lovers, just one… tent, snowed in, get naked for body warmth, saving her from a fire, he’s a former doctor, the list goes on and on. It’s almost remarkable how many fit into one book; and I ate them all up! I giggled my way through this with Margot as Forrest saved her at every single turn, despite her protestations. Highly recommend!

This book is EVERYTHING. I am obsessed with every single word that made me laugh out loud as well as cry actual heartfelt tears. This book a love letter to romance readers and I can’t stop thinking about it.
What you’ll find:
- all the tropes
- she’s a famous romance author who gets cancelled
- he runs the alaskan wilderness lodge that she escapes to
- one sleeping bag
- wilderness adventures

When I read the description of this book on NetGalley, I was pretty sold! It sounded like the plot of my next favorite rom-com and thought it would be a fun one to add my TBR. I thought the set up of the story was great and then we get this perfect little meet-cute - how perfect!?!
But then, I don't know, something shifted with Margot, our FMC and honestly I just didn't like her for basically the rest of the book. I like having MCs who aren't perfect, but there was just no reason for her to be as rude initially as she was to Forrest and I felt like that just went on for way too long. I know there was an explanation at some point to us as the reader, but I never felt like there was a turning point the characters discussed this.
I might be focusing too hard on that, but hey, I read these types of stories in hopes of liking the main characters, so it makes sense in my mind. That being said, the overall book was still written well and there were parts that I enjoyed. I particularly loved the letters; it felt very "PS I Love You".
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Spicy, male female, 1st person dual point of view, contemporary romance. Perfect length steamy and fun read. I enjoyed this couple and their chemisty. The premise and scenarios were delightful. A great debut book.

I ended up not finishing this one. For some reason I couldn’t get myself invested in the story. I also found the female main character to be annoying and immature. I’m also not a fan of insta-love

This really had it all. Classic tropes but with a tongue in cheek execution. A jaded romance author forced to live through those tropes:
Snowed in
Caretaker
Enemies to lovers
Grumpy man with a heart of gold
And so much more. I will admit that I had a hard time getting into the book until she got to Alaska. I had a major book hangover after finishing a series and was on the struggle bus all around. But I ended up really loving this story. The letters from Margot's sister Vanessa really pushed it over the edge. I was crying right there alongside Margot. I also love a meddling parent. 😂😏

4-4.5 stars! This book was cute and so fun to read! How many tropes can a romance writer throw into her personal life. The setting in Alaska was fun and the outings the group went on made it feel like you were right there. The romance was fun and while I knew how it would end it was fun getting there.

Okay friends. Here’s another romcom that you definitely need to add to your list!! It just came out last Tuesday!!
Margot is a popular romance author. On a livestream, her Happy Never After list (a list of her book’s alternate endings which were more realistic than romantic) got leaked and she was somehow shunned by the romance community. Her sister books her a flight to Alaska so she could stay at a lodge and find inspiration as she tries to write a book of a different genre.
I mean the plot alone is a Hallmark movie in of itself 😂 I love how self aware this book is. It has such a hilarious tone. Margot is pretty much avoiding everything romance. But then somehow stumbles upon romance trope after romance trope.
The meetcute was so chaotic and I’m here for it.
The male MC is literally the embodiment of your book boyfriend dreams all the way to the flannel outfit that by Romance Law has to be folded in a specific way so you could have a glimpse of his sexy forearms 😂
The tropes are literally endless! Snowed in, one tent, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, wilderness excursions, lodge setting… I couldn’t even keep track of all of them 😂
Buuuut don’t be deceived by the Hallmark-ness of it all because this book has depth too!! Both leads are caregivers to a family member and I don’t want to give anything away so that’s all I have to say about that. And lastly, THE LETTERS 🥹 Anything about sisters will definitely get a big reaction from me. My heart wasn’t ready for all the sisterly love from this book and it was so special. 🥹
Spice level: okay. It is spicy. Like maybe 2-3🌶️
And omg I can’t believe I forgot this but this book is literally a love letter to all the romance readers out there and that ending was just 👌
Definitely a book that is worth your time! Can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you @atriabooks for sending me a copy!!!
💭 Will you ever go winter camping?
☕️ Nope 😂😂 cold, sleeping on tents, wild animals, a combination that is not for me 😂

It took me a little while to get into Any Trope but You but once it clicked for me, it CLICKED. Margot is a romance author whose secret Happily Never After document (where she gives her characters the pessimistic endings she feels are realistic) gets leaked. Her fans immediately turn against her, and her sister sends her to rural Alaska, where she immediately meets Forrest, the son of the man who runs the place she's staying. Margot and Forrest are both caretakers for family members, and that helps bond them even as they're both sure they shouldn't get close to one another. The tension between Margot and Forrest is great, both their arcs are great, and I loved how Margot kept recognizing romance tropes they were falling into and getting mad about them.
I struggled some at the beginning with BOTH MCs hating on romance so much (though of course they both change their tune) but I'm glad I stuck it out because I ended up really liking it!

I loved this book SO MUCH! The premise of a romance author not believing in HEAs seemed like it would be cheesy, but this book was far from cheesy. The romance was great, the spice was spicy, and the laughs were sprinkled all throughout. Absolutely one of the stories I’ll plan to reread. Thank you to Atria Books for an early copy!

Any Trope But You is a really fun rom-com that plays into several classic tropes. Margot is a romance writer looking to reinvent herself and gets sent to Alaska by her sister. While there she meets the broody Forrest and the two instantly dislike each other.
The book is enemies to lovers, fish out of water, forced proximity, among others. It’s set at a wilderness resort in remote Alaska. I love a good Alaskan Wilderness story. The characters were so fun and fairly well detailed for side characters. It was a very enjoyable read!
Thank you to Victoria Levine and Atria Books for this advanced copy!

Thank you to Netgalley and Atria Books for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book and read it in one day! I loved the characters and the story line. I thought the characters had great growth and the book as well written. I would definitely recommend this book.

Oh, for cute.
The idea of a book full of tropes didn't sound like fun, but right from the start the humor of this pulled me in, and that it was about why those tropes work in the first place. Margot is in a rough spot - her career smashed to bits, caring for her sister, and also resisting love and relationships. When her brilliant sister sends her off to Alaska to write, she meets Forrest. The perfect, albeit grumpy, man. The chemistry between them is immediate, and neither of them wants it.
Their resistance was also funny - it meant that Miranda didn't have much of a filter, and some of the joking banter between them is not even remotely sexy, but you can see how it builds their relationship. I was laughing out loud at multiple points in this book just from the way these two are together, not just events but also the way they speak to one another.
There's also a plot regarding both Miranda and Forrest as caretakers, what that means, how it changes their priorities, and it impacts their ability to be in a relationship fully. Events occur that impact both of them, but always with care and sympathy. It's hard to confront the idea that the person you're taking care of needs space from you, and to see and hear them as a person and not their illness.
Cute, steamy, and a laugh out loud read.

Any Trope But You is such a cute and fun read. I loved Alaska being the setting and the grumpy/sunshine trope is one of my favorites! I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun romance!
Thank you Netgalley and Atria Books for the ARC!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
If there’s a microtrope I love more than the others it’s the Alaska wilderness microtrope. But enter my other love, hot doctor/researcher? It’s over for me.
This was such a cute and heartwarming story about Margot, a romance author who stopped believing in HEAs, who runs away to Alaska when a work scandal hits. She runs straight into the arms of Forrest, the grumpy wilderness guide and inn keeper.
The book contains so many tropes and Forrest is the amalgamation of some of the best ones you can find in a MMC. I thought it would be too much, but it actually made the plot quite funny. I loved Margot’s constant gripes about the tropes that kept falling into their laps.
This book is for anyone who is a lover of the genre and wants something that gives you all the tropes but in a way where the author is aware of and points out that this is exactly what they’re doing.
Margot and Forrest’s chemistry was really great from the start. And I loved their banter. But this might be because I thought Margot was funny in a chaotic but somehow still put together way.
Margot’s relationship with her sister and Forrest’s with his dad were also really cute. I loved the sibling moments we got between Margot and Savannah. Sibling dynamics as adults are so hard to navigate, even without one taking on a caretaker role.
Even though the pacing at the end felt a smidge rushed, I had a great time reading it.
Tropes: grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, only one bed (tent), kinda enemies to lovers, and my faves Alaska and hot doctor/researcher.

This was a solid debut by Victoria Lavine. It was well-written, with a heartfelt story both for the couple and their individual family relationships.
That being said, for someone reason I had a hard time connecting to it. Honestly, it might just have been a case of the wrong book at the wrong time, or my expectations that there would be more fun hijinks based on the cover and their initial meeting?
I really can’t pinpoint precisely, so I would absolutely recommend this book to readers, because I think it’s a great read. It just wasn’t a five-star for me for whatever reason.
Thank you to Atria for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
