Although both were flawed, I loved both of these characters. The author does a wonderful job of bringing humour into a book that deals with such dark topics. It shows you that there can be happy moments even when life is messy. This was a perfect slow burn, just when you think that she and Forrest will get their HEA something happens that changes their outlook on their relationship. This book had me in tears as I saw so much of myself in Margot.

Oh my gosh this book was the cutest feel good romance, I loved it! I can’t wait to read more by this author!

Oh, every trope in the genre appears in this really adorable fun romance. Romance author Margot Bradley no longer believes in Happily Ever Afters so even though she writes bestselling romance novels, she keeps a secret "Happily Never After" file. When that file gets exposed by a hacker, her sister (who has some kind of autoimmune disease and is Margot's excuse for not participating in regular life) signs her up for a retreat in Alaska. Enter Forrest, handsome, smart, so many tropes.......Forrest cares for his father, who was paralyzed in an accident while leading a hiking trip. Both characters struggle with trust issues and letting go of their "obligations" enough to form healthy attachments. Of course its predictable, that's the genre, but it's so well written and fun, with a lot of tongue in cheek references to those moments that scream "THIS IS A TROPE". Loved it!

Really enjoyed this rom-com set mostly in Alaska. Will really resonate with romance readers who recognize all the tropes. Well written, easy to read and a perfect palate cleanser after reading a few heavy reads just before this. Great characters and leaves you smiling.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

First and foremost, thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC.

I requested this arc because of 1 out of context quote: "You've had my heart in your teeth from day one, Margot."

I fucking love a man who can admit he is gone for her.
I am so happy I let one little sentence influence me into reading this story!!

I am a bit obsessed with Margot & Forrest. Two people who have been burned by romance in the past, and have pretty much done their best to steer clear of any sort of commitment for fear of being hurt or betrayed again. They are also both caregivers for a loved one, and that aspect created such understanding between them.

Margot is a romance author who no longer believes in love, and after her professional life blows up, her sister books her a 6 week "vacation" at an Alaskan lodge so she can get away and hopefully write a book in a new genre, murder mystery.

Forrest is currently running the lodge, and Margot immediately tries to put up walls because she absolutely cannot afford to fall for a gorgeous lumberjack. So they butt heads at first, but the tension is DELICIOUS.

Forrest is dreamy and I'm obsessed with how he sees Margot.. whenever we were in his point of view, he was always so entranced by her laugh and her dimples.

Case in point: 'Tearing my eyes away from the dimples on either side of her smile feels like trying to peel off industrial-strength velcro.'

I ate up every single word, every single glance between these two! The banter, the emotional depth, the sexual tension.. all of it was immaculate. They had some lovely tender moments, beautiful honest conversations too.

THE TENT SCENE. THE SAUNA. *pants* *fans self*

I am ready to pack my bags, fly to remote Alaska and spend six weeks without wi-fi while a sexy lumberjack brings me on weekly adventures... where does one book such a thing? trip advisor?

All aboard the trope train!! You’re def not going to want to miss this one! I finished this in one day and had tunnel vision in all aspects of life besides reading because I literally couldn’t put this down. The concept was overwhelmingly cute!! A pessimistic romance novelist experiencing her real life romance novel play out before her eyes? Absolutely genius. I feel super honored to have gotten the opportunity to have an ARC copy of this from @netgalley and I will 100% be buying a copy for my trophy collection come April!

Margot is a famous romance writer who is known for writing the best ~happily ever after~ endings. Only problem? She doesn’t believe in happy endings after a flighty dad, a botched engagement, and a sister with an unfair health diagnosis. So she has a secret word document on her computer with happily ~never~ after alternate endings to all of her books. When its leaked to the public, she is instantly canceled by all her fans. Her sister books her a 6 week trip to Alaska to push her to write a new book, escape the negativity, and to give her a break from her caretaking role. And OF COURSE she meets a rugged Alaskan wilderness man, Forrest, at the lodge she’s staying in. And OF COURSE she experiences all the best tropes: cute meet cute, enemies to lovers, forced proximity with one tent and many more. Gah I could go on and on. Mark your calendars for April with this one!

I absolutely adored this book. I’m a sucker for a good rom-com (especially ones like this one with Taylor Swift references honed to perfection) - and this one checked all of the boxes. I laughed, I smiled, and I cried. The title and cover initially caught my interest and I am SO glad it did!

Margot is down-on-her-luck with love as an author who writes romance novels. When things go south in her career, the sister she has always taken care of gives her the opportunity to reinvent herself in the Alaskan wilderness where she meets Forrest. Margot and Forrest balance one another perfectly as they are to sides of the same coin who see one another, flaws and all.

If you’re looking for a feel good romance with clever banter and character growth that ALSO has spice, look no further. Victoria Lavine, you are a new “go-to” romance author for me, you officially have a new fan. Thank you so much for this ARC NetGalley!

Victoria Lavine perfectly balances humor and heart in “Any Trope But You”, and I couldn’t read it fast enough!

Margot Bradley, a romance writer with jaded beliefs on love finds herself in a predicament that lands her in the middle of a remote Alaskan resort. While attempting her first murder mystery novel, she finds herself in another situation by the name of Forrest, and their story unfolds in unexpected ways.

Margot’s reinvention journey is raw and relatable, and the cozy cabin atmosphere made me feel like I was in Alaska with her! The chemistry between Margot and Forrest was so naturally electric, and their relationship developed in an unhurried way that felt super refreshing. Aside from the hot and heavy relationship between the MCs, the sweet family dynamic added a beautiful touch that had me tearing up at times. This story was emotional and covered some heavy topics, but still managed to be tons of fun! Huge shoutout to NetGalley for the ARC—this is one I couldn’t put down!

I went into this with really no expectations and had so much fun reading this! Margot is a romance author who has fallen out of love with love. Forrest is almost too good to be true. After some major drama goes down in Margot's life her sister books her an Alaskan escape for her to write a new manuscript (and also of course find herself again). Forrest has given up everything to be in Alaska and take care of his father and just general be perfect and moody? Margot has no time for falling into all these romance tropes that keep coming her way. She's written them before and refuses to fall into another love story. (but of course she does and its perfect.)

This book is FUN and full of tropes and just perfectly steamy and still had room for some really grounded emotional journeys.

This was very cute. I loved the setting and all the side characters, and the banter and chemistry between the MC and LI was sooo good. A great holiday/winter read!

Where do I even begin? Some books have a rare power to leave you feeling changed, and Any Trope But You did exactly that for me. It’s astonishing to think that this is Victoria Lavine’s debut—her writing feels so masterful, so self-assured, that you’d swear she’s been crafting stories for years.

The prose is nothing short of stunning. Lavine’s writing is lyrical and nuanced, with each line carrying a level of beauty that feels effortless yet deeply impactful. She brings her characters to life with such authenticity that they feel less like fictional creations and more like people you know or could meet. They’re flawed, raw, and relatable in a way that makes them linger in your mind long after you’ve finished reading.

The setting is another marvel. Lavine creates a world that feels both rustic and enchanting, evoking a sense of place that’s almost tangible. The atmosphere is dreamy, blending the charm of a small town with a touch of the wild, making it feel like the perfect backdrop for such a beautifully layered story.

And then there’s Forrest—the dream man. He embodies everything you could want in a character: depth, integrity, and a certain rugged charm that makes him both grounded and completely swoon-worthy. Lavine has crafted him with such care that he feels as real as the setting around him.

In short, Any Trope But You is sheer perfection. It’s one of those rare stories that’s both entertaining and transformative, leaving you a little breathless and a little better for having read it. Victoria Lavine has made an unforgettable debut, and I can’t wait to see what she creates next.

This book had a lot of components for a read i would enjoy but it didn't end up working for me. I didn't really like the two main characters who were determined to not like each other and underestimate each other and basically be complete jerks to each other. Once a new love interest for the female lead was introduced, I was done.

What a brutal beginning. I HURT for this character! She lost her entire career in a few seconds. Then, thanks to her sister, a plan is born to try to redeem herself. The writing in this book led me through all the emotions of protagonist, even the bittersweet realization of what a Happy Ever After means to her.

What a brilliant take on the HEA, romance books/genre, and toxic fan culture. Kudos to Victoria Lavine for writing a romance that addresses so many topics that are usually reserved for social media fights. Her writing ability allows the reader to envelope themselves in deeper conversations and tropes through Margot and Forrest's character growth, but their romance as well. Beige Panties for life! Overwhlmingly enjoyed!

Thank you NetGalley for the arc!

This book was just too cute to put down. All the banter was top notch. I loved all the references to the tropes. I just love a book in Alaska.

Wish it didn’t end so abruptly but still a cute fun read!

A beautifully written book about what happens when we stop taking care of everyone else and are open to possibilities for ourselves.

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Margot is a romance writer who is cancelled when her Happily Never After document is leaked to her fans who are destroyed to see that she wrote alternate endings to her books featuring divorce, affairs with the nanny and erectile disfunction for the characters they love. Because that's how Margot really feels about love - its a scam and she has the scars to prove it. In the wake of the scandal Margot's younger sister Savannah ships Margot off on a six week trip to Alaska to write her first murder mystery. But it is not a swanky, relaxing spa, but a remote lodge with wilderness expeditions and no internet! Margot immediately finds herself in the arms of a tall, flannel wearing hottie thanks to a moose scare, but she has no time for his rugged good looks and body built from chopping wood. Unfortunately, Mountain Daddy (real name Forrest), starts to look and act like every romance hero and they find themselves in every romance trope. Beyond the tropes, Margot and Forrest find they have a connection as both have been serving as caregiver to family member, even to the detriment of their own careers. Will the tropes win or will Margot stick to her love sucks guns?

Wow, what a debut! Victoria Lavine should be proud of what a gorgeously and realistically written story she has created. I found myself highlighting so many lines that were expertly crafted to clearly convey the setting and characters. As an older reader, I appreciated characters in their 30s who have significant caretaker roles to family members. Their debate about the caretaker role vs taking care of their own needs is a real one and I was debating which direction they would take and how they'd be able to get to their HEA. As a bookstagrammer, the storyline of her fans and the odes to romance fans were perfect and true to life. I have read a few "ode to the tropes" books this year, and these characters did a much better job of resisting the pull, the conflict was really there, not just a blip on the page. I liked how the letters from Savannah played a significant role in moving the story forward. The side characters were wonderful, though I would have liked a bit more Trapper and Jo. My only note is that I would have liked more of Margot's backstory earlier in the book. I felt like I really knew who Forrest was throughout, but didn't have as much of a connection to Margot since significant information about how she'd been burned in the past were shared so late in the book. I look forward to this releasing and will recommend it to all romance readers.

4.5 stars. Margot, a romance author, goes to Alaska for 6 weeks to write a non-romance book after being canceled by her fans. In this process, she comes to understand why she's so jaded about love, and falls in love herself, just like the characters she in her books. I liked this book a lot, and thought the characters were all so well developed. I would definitely recommend if you like romance and spice!

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for allowing me to read this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

A huge thank you to the publisher, NetGalley and Victoria Lavine for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

As a fan of romance and bookish books, I had to read Any Trope But You. It had all of my favourite tropes. Some might think they were overdone, but I think that the book is aware of the excess of tropes, which is what makes the relationship between the main characters more fun.
While reading, I caught myself smiling ridiculously several times, especially whenever Forrest called Margot „sweetheart“.

The book is swoon-worthy and spicy, but still deep and vulnerable. What I liked most was that it showed the lives of chronically ill and disabled people and their loved ones in a sensitive and respectful way. I loved that Savannah and Trapper were still part of the story and had their own voice as well as their independence.

All in all, I enjoyed this book a lot and think it's an incredible debut. I can't wait to read more from Victoria Lavine!

Thank you NetGalley for my very first ARC!
This was such a delightful debut novel!

Margot is a romance author who finds herself doubting the idea of happily ever after. After her secretly written happily NEVER after endings get revealed and her career seems to be going down the drain, she takes off to Alaska where she hopes to write a murder mystery without any love tropes in sight. Along comes Forrest, the man who embodies every trope imaginable!

Best parts - enemies to lovers and the banter 🤌
This book had it all - humor, heartbreak, renewed belief in love, beautiful family relationships, spice, and literally so many tropes it's hilarious! It made me both bust out laughing and choke back tears.
I could also relate to the caregiver aspect and appreciated the lessons learned. 😌

Now, pardon me as I find me a cabin to rent in Alaska and go on an excursion. ✌️
